I assume it is a nod to Nog from DS9. After all, he was the first SFC from his species. I can only assume he made a grand impact on his generations Star Trek Adventures. Would have been great if a spin off from DS9 centered around Nog and his progression within the Star Fleet Academy and beyond.
I have watched the ‘star trek fanflix’ and enjoyed them as well. It does show promise within the Trekverse that Roddenberry is still influencing future directors, producers, video creators, actors, and, Trekkies. Though, I did have a few moments of ‘WTH’ because of the content and plot process lacking continuity of it’s own progression. But, that’s how strong popular directors and producers of movies begin. By learning how to adjust things where they were so misguided in the first place. Kudo’s to the fanflick creators and future hollywood notables.
In my humble opinion, if a person has to be negative towards a specific program, without acknowledging the heartfelt opinions of others who enjoy such programming(…especially on the chat boards), they are not true Trekkies. Nor they do not comprehend the idea of creative adaptations from the original content presented decades before it. Those commenting with negative opinion but include acceptance towards those of us posting our enjoyment of the programs show more respect to the whole of entire Hollywood productions from their humble beginnings. Don’t forget, BEN HUR was created a dozen times and it’s humble root was a 10-15 minute silent skit.
There is no law that states all adaptations MUST adhere to the exact way the original production (Star Trek 1960s) were presented. If that were the case then all theater/stage plays, movies, and musicals would still be presented with MEN ONLY…and ONLY MEN. Remember Shakespeare? All his Folios during his lifetime were staged in all entertainment venues with Adult men as the male and female and child characters. Imagine today’s society not allowing women to be actresses, producers, directors, theater administration representatives.
If some of you think we true Trekkies are being ‘sarastic’…We Are Not. All our opinions come from a true Trekkie heart and from a place we can respect and accept creative adaptations for their gallant attempts at entertaining.
If some of you think a program is mawkish drivel or filled with politi-woke stuff…perhaps it is time you stop watching it after 4 seasons, heck, even 1 season, since it bothers your political opinions that much. Also, go back and rewatch TNG, DS9, STV from the 1990s-2000s. Pull up a history book of events and issues from the 1980s and 1990s and watch and read at same time. I guarantee you that those programs also had parallel dialog, and, plot sequences/Story Arc’s, within it that reflected the political problems of that 1990s time period, too. Maybe you were probably too young to realize/notice, or, not born yet.
If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Stop trolling, bullying, being negative, and, criticizing us who are devout Trekkies. Respect everyone’s opinion. I do my best to respect the opinions of those who don’t enjoy programs. It’s not for them. But they could be kinder in their comments towards others instead of being katty and troublemaking, towards them about the fact they were emotionally affected in a good, or, sad, or happy, or bad, way with a specific episode. Seems that the art of productive Pro/Con Debate Class education has all been forgotten.
Live Long and Prosper.
By the way, a bit of Star Trek Trivia. Leonard Nemoy’s Jewish Roots inspired the Vulcan Salute. Shalom/Peace.
