The Old Man (2022) S1 E6

I’m enjoying this a lot more than I thought - some really nice plot twists. Now the twists on the twists are starting to come out. His character is not who he seems to be from the very beginning and whatever you’re currently thinking he is, changes in every episode. My very first impression was he was someone in his 70’s who had been dealing with his wife’s dementia or was dealing with his own memory issues. She’s recently dead, he’s talking to her, the daughter is calling and checking up on him, he has good days and bad days, he’s grieving, he looks very vulnerable, he really depends on those dogs to keep him together. Everything hits the fan, he goes to ground, it’s not memory issues, it’s tradecraft, he’s had to live a legend for 30 years. (Fight scenes: it’s nice to believe a senior citizen can actually take out multiple agents a third of his age, but the combat is a bit of a stretch.) I was excited to see him come back and surprised he was doing a show like this but it really works, he’s playing against type, everyone underestimates his jolly grandpa character and that gives him a more plausible element of surprise. Happy to see there will be a Season 2! If you like this genre, Legends with Sean Bean is a good show to watch while you’re waiting for the next season.
