This adaptation from the book by Stephen King (of the same name: “Doctor Sleep”) actually works exceptionally well, despite the obvious alterations for “film”. Stephen King’s books traditionally do not work well as adaptations primarily due to the fact that he has a multiplicity of intricate characters in each and every story and book. However, this adaptation is both thoughtful and wise in its elimination of characters. This film is creepy, ghastly, crud, offensive and downright scary… Ewan McGregor holds the entire film together (much to my own doubtfulness), and his performance ensures that what would have been absolute tosh, migrates into scary and sinister malevolence and utter devolvment for the viewer. It is an excellent and scary watch…
