In order for effective communication to take place, you have to define terms. Whatever “magnitude of destruction” does mean, it doesn’t mean number dead.

Ultimately, it’s the loss of life that defines the magnitude of destruction in people’s minds, because life is most prescious. So stating the magnitude of destruction was eight times greater than the Hiroshima bombing implies something entirely different than the amount of energy released. The statement is intentionally sensationalized and misleading in order to grab attention.
