The entire style of this film is completely wonky. The main issue with this film is lack of character development. It attempts to be a bit like “Mother” and a bit like “The Witch” (in style, not content), and only succeeds in being a frustration to the characters themselves. There is very little information on any of the characters, just some random comments and peeks at a backstory here and there. There is nothing that completely establishes the collision of events that the viewer has before them. To compound the confusion, none of the characters are entirely likeable. The acting is mediocre, with the exception of Jaeden Martell (“It”, “The Book of Henry”), who succeeds even here in creating his “Aidian” quite seemlessly. The forced stylisation ultimately takes the film from frustration to frustration for the viewer expecting any form of an organised horror. 2.5/5
