the 5th wall is a device…not a notion…and it’s been utilized before…just saying.

  1. Judging by your comment, I’m not sure you know what a notion is. A notion is an idea or concept. A device can be an example of an idea or concept. Might help you to to understand if you reread my comment as: “The idea of the 5th wall wasn’t created in this episode…”

  2. You’re thinking of the 4th wall. Deadpool broke the fourth wall.

Nothing is set in stone. Everything is an idea that was created.

The 3rd wall is a character realizing that he’s in a show or play.
The fourth wall is a character breaking character in some way such as talking to the audience or refusing to say their lines in an intentional way.

The 5th wall, until this episode, was thought of as:

  1. A character addressing the audience or referencing the props. But this is actually included in the 4th wall. Some people inaccurately think it’s the 5th.
  2. A ceiling
  3. The biggest real estate firm in the world
  4. A VR company
  5. Facebooking with someone in the same house then breaking it by actually talking to them
  6. A floor
7.The wall between writer and critic
  7. Any of various other divisions between groups of people in the theatre i.e. men and women

But, once again, those are all just notions. What the 5th wall is now is what I described above. The have beautifully created a new definition of 5th wall and simultaneously broken it. They are so far out of character that they are back in it.

If you have any more trouble with this, please abstain from further argument and just read the wikipedia article on the fourth wall. Or the fifth wall one just links you to the 4th.
