I remember seeing this on cable once - the only things I remember from it are Lauren Holly being pretty damn hot, and the moral of the story seeming to be along the lines of an old Blackadder line: We are but the private parts of the gods, merely to be played with for sport.
I came to this conclusion because the “good guy”, Steve Bacic, finally resolves the whole problem with Silas’ obsession with his wife and saves his family…and then the kid looks up to notice that the stars are going out, which was from a story about how to know when God was done with us humans (the end of the universe, that is) that someone tells earlier in the movie.
So…in the chess battle of good vs. evil, good wins, which apparently pisses God off enough to knock over the whole game board. FU, humanity! :)
Still, Lauren Holly makes it worth skimming through the rest of the nonsense…
