It’s not bad, but before it’s over, Stabler MUST at least have sex with Liv. Seriously, this is the only reason I’m watching both of these now.

The Day the '60s Died (2015)
grasshopper rex 3 points 7 months ago.

Actually, there are plenty of songs protesting police violence and social injustice. A Rolling Stones article from 2016 entitled Songs of Black Lives Matter: 22 New Protest Anthems is but the tip of the iceberg. Many, many more have been written since then. This Land by Gary Clark Jr. is a powerful message about his own experiences. I could guess why it is that your perception is that black artists aren’t writing about these issues and no, none of my guesses would be blaming you or condemning you in any way. Instead, I’ll leave it to you ponder the question. Peace.

AmieWarren 3 points 7 months ago.

Honestly, I don’t like rap, and I know there are probably a lot of rap protest songs, but I just don’t hear them. Sorry. I used to like rap back in the day when it was about making yourself and your life better and helping other people. Then it got to be about hos and bros and drugs and violence, so I don’t listen to it anymore. Sad. I’m sure there are a lot of very meaningful rap songs, but some bad apples spoiled it for me.

Not an attack…just conversing.
Why would we need to see Andy imprisoned? He did not purposely drive Ray to do what he did. This is yet another product “showing” how an AI will evolve and act on what it makes of putting 2 and 2 together. In Darby’s words, Andy “mated his therapy bot with his security bot.” Ray then used Zoomer as his physical “tool” to take out the threat(s). I think that Andy will continue to work on his AI, thinking that he can steer the AI…mistake! I do agree with you that it makes sense for Andy to ceaselessly search for his son…his ego will not let go of Zoomer that easily.
But honestly, I’m good with where it ended. I don’t think it’s enough to explore in another season. As much as I enjoy Marling/Batmanglij products, they don’t seem to have much luck selling any follow-on…too bad for us!

AmieWarren 3 points 4 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Andy should at least be charged with involuntary manslaughter, because he created Ray. It’s like if a self-driving Tesla ran over and killed someone, Musk would be responsible because the buck stops with him. Of course, the child would not be culpable, as he did not know what he was doing. You can’t escape responsibility by saying “I didn’t know that would happen if I did such and such.” Our laws must be updated to deal with these possibilities in the future.

Maybe not another season, but at least a movie to wrap it all up. I just don’t like endings where you have to imagine what you would like to happen.

If you like sweet, funny and sometimes spooky shows, this one is for you. This is more than just a witch story, it’s a story about family, friendship and community…with a little magic thrown in. Great characters, great stories. There are lots of movies too.

Yep, Amie had a good post about that yesterday. U.S. entertainment will just have to do what it has to do. Might be dark in Hollywood, but not everywhere.

More likely fans of the video games. Few read anymore and the gaming crowd can be very toxic. Many were complaing from the beginning of the show. Many that were fans of the show are not happy about Cavill’s departure. That said, I also enjoy this for what it is instead of hating it for what it isn’t and I’ve read some of the books and played the games.

AmieWarren 4 points 10 months ago.

I think you’d be surprised how many people still read, especially with ebooks. My son is a millenial and he reads all the times. He’s read this whole series and the whole series the Game of Thrones was based on.

FINALLY! In March, 2023, they said they were working on Season 2. It’s in the 60’s, not the 1800’s, though. Hope it’s not too different. I rather liked the 19th century version. Well, we’ll see, I guess. Didn’t say if any of the original cast was coming back.

The Witcher (2019) S3 E3
greyfur 1 points 10 months ago.

I’ve never read them either, but what’s going on from what I understand is this…The guy that is playing the Geralt now, Henry Cavill, is a big fan of the books and such, to a very great extent. That being said, he wanted to stay with the series as written, but the people writing and directing and producing the show wanted to stray from the original content and go in a different direction then what the books and such went.

Both he and the fans are rebelling against that, and in a big way. Cavell knew being on the inside how far they were going to stray from the original content of the books, and tried for a good bit to get them to stay with the original content, which is what made the show so popular with a lot of the fan base, and the people in charge refused to listen to him, and he liked the original so much that he refused to renew his contract with them, a he felt that they were going to destroy the show anyway with the content change.

That being said, I really liked the first 2 seasons, and also this 3rd one, and have never read any of the books. And not having read them, but knowing that they are based on the original content, I’m starting to think that if Cavell thinks this strongly about it, then might be they should leave well enough alone and stay with this as it was originally written, as it’s so good already. A lot of times Producers and Directors take that ‘artistic license’ they seem to think they have way too far and ruin something that was already perfectly good to start with. This might be one of those things.

I will give the 4th season a shot, when it comes out, just on general principals, but I am not expecting it to be as good as the first 3 seasons. Just my opinion based on what has been said in several articles about this, and past experience watching shows made from book’s by really good authors that people got hold of and they changed way too much and just destroyed it, when they should have left well enough alone…

My 2 cents, anyway, for what it’s worth…

AmieWarren 4 points 10 months ago.

This is why J.K. Rowling insisted on creative control over the Harry Potter movies, because she wanted them to stay as true to the books as they could. I’ve seen movies that ruined so many books, didn’t even resemble the books except for the characters and their backstories. I hardly ever watch a show or movie if I’ve read the books. I like cozy mysteries and I read all of the M.C. Beaton books. I can’t watch the t.v. shows because they are so far removed from the books and even the characterizations are bad.

Predictive Programming — you can always tell a conspiracy by the creative license they take with language. Gosh, I really wish people would take this conspiracy nonsense and politics to an appropriate site(s). This is a movie/show site. It’s to chill out; not be opportunist and pollute the threads with rubbish we all have to deal with outside of here 24/7. Although “Civil War” sounds really interesting, especially with husband and wife Plemons and Dunst. Thanks for the information!

AmieWarren 4 points 4 months ago.

I always take “predictive” shows seriously, because many times, they’re right. Look at “The Handmaid’s Tale” and what is happening in U.S. politics right now.

LOL on the aluminum foil, but honestly, it’s a staple in prepper circles. It can be used to make any number of things, including silverware, utensils, dishes and makeshift grills. Also, start collecting bottles and cans.

I cried during “Fast Car.” That song meant so much to me at the time. I never liked Miley until “Flowers,” but now I love her. She was spectacular! What can I say about Joni Mitchell…one of my idols from my youth. But Taylor — Taylor was EVERYTHING! Standing up and singing along with every performer’s song. When does she have time to learn all those songs? Watching her support all the other artists, you can see why everyone (but MAGA) loves her. This was one of the best grammy shows I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of them!

Yuck, too much Taylor Swift and bad speech by Jay Z, loved Tracy Chapman tho!

AmieWarren 4 points 3 months ago.

Jay Z is one ugly man, and his speech was reminiscent of Kanye West showing his ass that time. Beyonce had her day. Time to turn the spotlight over to somebody else. She’s gonna be one of those 70-something singers still trying to be relevant and cool, making fools of themselves like Madonna.

No, she told the truth — and like far too many women she wasn’t believed AND she has been vilified ever since. Your hostility to her and the bad language are unacceptable.

AmieWarren 4 points 4 months ago.

You know what they say: There is her side and his side and somewhere inbetween is the truth. They both have their faults, and they both admittedly drink too much and do too many drugs. But her behavior is what ruined both their careers. I will give you that people don’t believe abused women many times, but hey — they ESPECIALLY don’t believe abused men, amirite? Agree to disagree on who is more to blame.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (2023)
AmieWarren 3 points 3 months ago.

If anyone watched the grammys, you would have seen why people love Taylor. She was up dancing and singing to all the other artists’ songs, yelling and clapping as loud as she could to support them. She didn’t have to do that, but she’s a very, very nice person. I probably won’t watch this concert, but I was impressed by her support of even her competitors. As for Beyonce, you had your day. Call off your attack husband, because new people are having their day now.

RANT: I do not like this ending. I know the title itself makes it unlikely that it will be a continuing series, but WTAF??? If Andy is free, he can (and likely will) create a system to find Lee and Zoomer (if they even made it out alive. ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!! This is not a proper ending! Very unhappy right now. It doesn’t take much to be a beloved action movie star. Just being large, attractive, and able to remember lines is pretty much all is required. I could make a long list of crappy actors that have been very successful with this model.

Piglet 3 points 10 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Wow, Martin Scorsese’s first western! I didn’t realize that he hadn’t made a western before and what a great choice for his first western! I took Oklahoma history in junior high and there was no mention of mineral rights of Native Americans. Nor any mention of the black wall street murders in Tulsa Oklahoma. Both events happened in the 1920’s. Dang, the 1920’s were just as volatile as the 1960’s. Scorsese has framed this movie as a whodunnit set in 1920s Oklahoma, where the Osage Nation became extraordinarily wealthy after abundant oil deposits were discovered on its land. It’s a 3+ hour movie and sometimes you can tell the tale in just 2 hours.

AmieWarren 3 points 4 months ago.

So many people are now fighting NOT to have children learn real history, but continue to learn the white man’s version of history, like I did. I’ve been completely absorbed with books and media about the real history of the world, especially this insane country (U.S.) I live in. You would think that the algorithm training that Grok got would have been less restrictive than that given to other AIs given what a strong proponent of “free speech” that he claims to be. Granted, it does have a potty mouth, but it appears to be much more liberal-minded than I would have expected. The way it roasted Musk when prompted to do was epic.
