Nothing much to see here. Quite low-budget and unremarkable (as expected).

The Woman in the Wall (2023)
YgraineDance 5 points 8 months ago.

I knew I had to give this a go on account of excellent actress Ruth Wilson, who was so memorable in “Luther” and other gems. She shines here as a very troubled shell of a woman, the victim and survivor of a horrible social atrocity (Magdelene Convents) committed against girls and women at the hands of (what else?) the Church. Wilson’s ‘Lorna Brady’ is barely hanging onto her sanity, and the viewer is never quite sure about what’s really up with her. But then, Lorna herself isn’t quite sure of things, either. Watch, and you’ll see what I mean. Her life is nightmarish, and you really feel for her plight and for the others who endured cruelty “for their sins.” Two eps. in, and I think I’ll stay for the ride.

I was entertained; knew I would be. We’re given some characters to root for and laugh with. It’s a fun movie with some actors really hamming it up and enjoying themselves. Marvel is always a good bet. 😃

Leni Riefenstahl was the FOX NEWS of her day

That’s a spot-on analogy, my friend. She jumped in with both feet and elevated the Reich-mentality in films that made the Fuhrer ecstatic.

Batwoman (2019) S2 E14
UGuess 4 points 3 years ago.

If he… I’m going to be so pissed. This is best season of batwoman. A complete 180. They must have different writers or something

YgraineDance 5 points 3 years ago.

You know, I wondered that too. I remember posting way back at the beginning about how tiresome and insipid the Alice storyline seemed, but this season they’ve turned that around and made her part the most interesting, even overshadowing the Bat. A lot still needs work, but it does seem as if someone’s trying (at last).

Karl Urban? Yep, I will give this a chance on the strength of that:-)

The Equalizer (2021) S1 E7

I really like Latifah in this role. She sells it as the caring, concerned helper of the helpless, who brings her very special expertise to the streets to do good things. Her team is as skilled as she is, and their dialogue is well written and is fun to follow. Good show to look forward to each week.

Castle Falls (2021)
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago*.

Oooh a Scott Adkins movie! I am so in!!!

*Edit after viewing: Very entertaining! A simple cat ‘n mouse story and some fun along the way. Adkins worked well with Lundgren, and both delivered on the action.

A trend I have been enjoying (and am looking forward to in Expendables IV, among others) is how some of our much-loved action stars are comfortable with showing the very human changes that come with time, work, and age. No longer do they really have to pretend to be 29 years old ad infinitum. We love them because we love them and knew them “when”. I look forward to the day when more American actors/actresses can do this, in this genre of film as well as others.

Attention all Peaky Blinder fans, Cillian Murphy is in this movie from 2002! I’ll have to put this on my list to watch too.

I bet you’ll like this. Be sure to catch “28 Weeks Later” as well. Different cast, but fun.

La Brea (2021) S2 E4
YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

It would be so cool if this time-travel show was actually about time travel like it purports itself to be.

Instead, it’s always histrionics and soap opera. “We’re gonna do something and it’s really gonna be big - just not this episode.”

Next episode comes and it’s “YES, here’s a cryptic new bit of info and even more side plot, and now we’re gonna do something REALLY big - just not this episode.”

What are the writers doing, other than stringing this along…?

This is a complex episode and a fantastic one at that.

The Capture (2019) S2 E6
greyfur 2 points 1 year ago.

Yeah, I used to get real excited for the walking dead, then it started to kinda wane, and it just kinda petered out on me. Seems to me like the only one that I still find interesting now is Daryel (sp?).

That being said, ‘The Old Man’ was pretty good, first season, hoping they do a second one. I’ve been liking ‘For All Mankind’ as well, it’s an alternate reality kind of a show as to what would it have been like if things had have turned out differently back in the NASA days when we were going to the moon and such. All I’m going to give you, but it’s pretty good.

That being said, look up something called ‘Sherlock’. Only 4 seasons so far, and have been waiting for more, have not had the time (actually forgot to look, truth be told, got a lot on my plate at the moment, so the small stuff has gone right out the window at the moment), but about 3 long episodes to each season, and it has Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, and Rupert Graves as a really cool Watson. A bit of a different take, but if you’re anything like me you will really like this.

I pretty much binged each season. Did the first one in one sitting, then knew what I was going to do with the others, so made sure I was going to have the time to do the same with the others when I got started, snacks ready, and chilled. Really good episodes, and lots of blindsides!

YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

YES thanks! I loved the quirky Cumberbatch version of Sherlock and watched all of them. Great stuff and he killed it as Sherlock! Had some real twists there toward the end of its run. (I wish he’d stuck with that instead of doing Dr. Strange stuff, but, whatever…)
I haven’t watched the others you mentioned but I’ll consider them, thanks. OH, and another great one I wanna see in season 2 is the Navajo Nation crime story called “Dark Winds.” That one is superb; left me craving more!
Good to see you and Greenguy86.

65 (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I thought the story had a lot of potential, what with the premise of an alien pilot’s ship crash-landing here on Earth in the time of dinosaurs. There could have been a LOT of backstory right there, delving more into his home, his mission with the shipload of people, their destination, and his leaving a very ill child to earn a payday that (apparently) was never going to help get her the treatments she needed anyway.
I liked Driver here, but they wrote some pretty wooden dialogue for him at times. The young girl Koa was strong, as was the daughter. There was quite a bit of action, even though some scenes tended to drag a bit. the movie concluded with many things left to the viewer to conjecture. In other words, just when things took off (literally!) the credits rolled. Ah, well…

Simulant (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 11 months ago.

Though awkwardly structured with sudden flashbacks and scene jumps (deliberately so, I’m guessing, so we’ll experience seeing a tortured, confused mind at work) this is an interesting take on the ‘androids will surpass us if we’re not careful’ theory. Though set in the future, we’re shown this isn’t too far away, with many older buildings interspersed with ultra-modern ones; with vans and cars of today (and a lovely old Trans-Am which made me tear up a bit, missing my own!) riding down streets, while holograms and company drones fill the skies. Kind of a fun ride, with a few slight nods to Blade Runner, Almost Human, Stepford Wives/Husbands, and more - oh, and a dog named Trotsky. Be sure to watch for an after-credits bit at the end.

Jarhead 3: The Siege (2016)
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago.

Lots and lots (and lots!) of mayhem here. I love Adkins in everything, and he had a different kind of role in this film from his usual one(s). He’s still badass, though;-) There’s a closing-credits epilogue to watch for.

The Capture (2019) S2 E6
YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

WOW what a great season ender this was!!! Double crosses, triple crosses, intrigue on top of more intrigue right up til the very end! Season 1 was excellent, but I think season 2 might have topped it, as the enormity of the tale’s nightmare scenario is now known to and understood by viewers. This season’s arc has wrapped up nicely and I HOPE we see a third - this premise has endless possibilities still to reveal, as the tech theory in the story is very topical and shows no sign of abating. A highly recommended, edge-of-your-seat watch!

The Endgame (2022) S1 E10
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago.

When this series began, the show felt more akin to “The Blacklist” (and a few of us mentioned this at the beginning) - but as time has gone on, it appears it has more of an air of “Blindspot”, with all of its extrapolation of obscure leads, conclusions, and facts.
Not saying I don’t enjoy the show, because I do! Baccarin nails it! It’s just that things have fallen into a pattern of every-step-depends-on-correct-interpretation-of-wild-guesstimate.
Can they sustain a show based on this routine? Time will tell.

I noticed that, too; even down to her adding a bit of white to some of her outfits along the way. I figured it was done deliberately to indicated how the situation and classmate-drama really was changing her severe worldview - just a little bit:-)

Rabbit Hole (2023) S1 E1

just checked ‘eagle eye’, and remembered it. was a really good flick, non stop action all the way through. another good one is the ‘source code’if you ever get to check it out. not quite as much action, though there is a good amount, but you really want to pay attention to this one, it gets complicated.

YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

YES I saw “Source Code” too, and liked it. Also, never forget “Person of Interest” which did the same kind of no-one-is-safe-from-tech scenario to chilling ends. And what was that one with Will Smith, who I think was also on the run from surveillance? I forget the name.
Glad you can catch up on your saved stories! Keep feeling better!

Yeah, not really getting the Killjoys vibe from this, at least not yet. Thinking about watching something now myself, but not real jiggy with this at the moment for some reason, so going to go looking at what I have on my later list, will find something, have a lot piled up. Will get back to this eventually and see where it goes. It’s either going to surprise me and be good, or I’ll just drop it. Got too much stuff I’m trying to keep up with at it is…

I’m kinda with you on your point about Q; I could never stand him and just wanted him gone. Seeing him now, I still feel that way. I find the Borg Queen arc to be most interesting, though…so maybe the Q angle won’t be so horrible.

That’s her appeal as lead actor though - Her failure to register little more than subtle emotion drives a story further (if the editors use that correctly). She really can’t be read with her poker-face, so jumping scene to scene, it creates the need to keep watching. Damn her ☺

Moonfall (2022)
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago.

Well, my headphones sure loved it. Lots of jaw-dropping effects and glorious sound adding spice to a formulaic-but-fun pseudo-science fantasy blockbuster. “Samwell Tarly” from GoT was wonderful in his role here; Berry and Wilson less so, but alright.
Speaking of GoT, I liked how (intentionally or not) the ‘megastructure’ in the story reminded me a lot of Thrones’s opening credits in a way. The rings, movement, etc. Overall a good disaster flick IMO; a sort of combo of The Abyss + The Day After Tomorrow + Independence Day. Fun to watch here at home and likely even better in a theatre.

The Mother (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

JLo brings it in this pic that shows off her grit and skill in action roles. Here, she has a part that we’ve seen performed many times by male stars such as Scott Adkins, Steve Austin, Jason Statham, John Cena, The Rock, Liam Neeson, and others. The film takes time to flesh out its characters, showing their evolving motivations; and is filled with thrills, chases, and excellent location shots. It’s a simple script that doesn’t bore you even if the plot is a familiar one. I got a lot from both the good guys and the bad ones here. Overall, this was fun and entertaining; good for JLo.

The Chemistry of Death (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This series had its moments, for sure. It’s quite slow-going in many ways, with a seemingly endless number of flashbacks to establish the main character’s sense of running in place emotionally. Yeah, we get it - he’s brilliant in forensics but he’s got issues. His issues are made worse by the nature of the crime(s) as well as by the feelings of claustrophobia we’re getting, not only from the terrible storm but also from the isolated location itself (Hebrides). The countryside has a stark beauty that the camera loves, even though all around us is the storm.
Some of the townspeople are interesting, if more than a little insular and mistrustful. Most of them view the doctor with some degree of scepticism, and you’ll see this played out as the story progresses. I’ve seen all six episodes, and every now and then something happens that mixes things up and puts a twist on the story that you might not have seen coming. Very dark tale, all things considered. Be sure to stay during the end credits of episode six (last).

Eyeborgs (2009)
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago.

If you like Terminators, Killbots, and Robocops, you’ll like this. It’s a very witty little cautionary tale that manages to be relevant, darkly humorous, and more than a little unsettling all at the same time. Remember Ed-209 from Robocop? Think Ed, but with brooding, malicious intelligence - plus vicious, implacable posse. It’s an hour and forty-two minutes long, but never bores or wastes time or scenes.

Condor's Nest (2023)
greyfur 2 points 1 year ago.

Ahhh, that’s too bad. I was giving this a bit of consideration, actually, based on the fact that Ironside was in it, and always kind of liked him. Especially liked him in ‘V’, he did a great job in that. Trailer looked pretty good too, but then, they are supposed to, aren’t they?

Anyway, I just don’t have the time anymore to watch as much as I used to, and even though I have a bunch of stuff backed up movie wise, I’ll never watch all of it, should try and take some time here and there and cull most of it. Just keep the few I would actually like to get to at some point.

Going to take your word that this would not be worth the time, you have never led me wrong in the past, so trusting your judgment once again. Thanks for the heads up kiddo!😉

YgraineDance 3 points 1 year ago.

Hey, my dude, glad to offer some insight. I am a longtime lover of Ironside, way back to “Scanners” and “Visiting Hours.” but they just misused him this time. Arnold “The Mummy” Vosloo does what he can, but the story is weak and the actors you WANT to see front and center aren’t the ones you get. Kind of a letdown IMO.

Bravo! WONDERFUL series, never failed to make you scream, laugh, moan, and curse - sometimes all of the above, all in the same episode! I’d love to see these characters again in their exciting future adventures. There sure are lots more ripped-from-the-headlines stories to tell.

Although I had seen the series when it was first on, somehow I never saw this movie. Reviewers on IMDB seem to almost universally hate it, but the plot kept me interested throughout. It wasn’t terrible, it was just…quite different…from the original series. There were vibes of Robocop, Demolition Man & others about the story, and a neat musical score by none other than Jan Hammer, which took me back to the Miami Vice days and added a lot of charm to things here. Added bonus points given for the San Antonio locale. Enjoy!
