The Last of Us (2023)

I too stopped watching TWD when Glen was killed. At least with this new drama there could be a cure unlike in TWD. So, does this mean this new drama might not drag on and on? I know nothing about the game that this drama is based on…..

augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

I have no idea unfortunately since I too am not familiar w/the game.

Wow, you know of The Sweet? Loved them back in the day but few remember them in the glam rock scene since they were a one hit wonder. ‘Ballroom Blitz’ was my jam!

Sasha and Loosey were incredible. I wasn’t surprised at the bottom two. And Salina EsTitties had every move down, so of course she stayed. Great episode.

augusts1 3 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I really thought Loosey was far better in the challenge than Sasha & should have won (as much as I love Sasha). Although her runway outfit was pretty boring in comparison to Sasha’s or any of the other girls for that matter. So I guess Sasha was more consistent all around since she handled Charo fairly well despite it being chaotic.

Did you know Salina’s last name is a play on the abbreviation STD? I found that out in the comment section on youtube. I had no idea till then lol. Brilliant.

Some funny stuff but he sure repeats himself a lot. He could do twice the material if he didn’t repeat himself so much lol.

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches (2023) S1 E2
alexisbits 3 points 1 year ago.

Oh no. The books and show are different enough that you wouldn’t need to have read them to understand the series. Each is good in it’s own way, but (even though I’ve read the novels a couple times), I think the TV adaptation is better. At least, so far. I’d say to give it a go.

augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

Excellent. I’m planning on it. I do love Anne Rice & have read the vamp chronicles & Cry To Heaven which I loved. I own a bunch of others including the 1st book of the Mayfair books but have yet to read them. I think I even tried reading it but I found Anne to get FAR too into unnecessary descriptions. I kind of lost interest in her writing in the last vamp book when Lestat meets Memnoch the devil & tours hell. Anne goes on & on endlessly w/descriptions of the surroundings of hell. I just found myself skipping over whole chapters since they were mainly describing sections of hell. Ugh! lol.

I plan to, for sure, something good came out of this at least, thank you both for the recommendation =D

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

I agree w/bcreed08 & TheTruth about the original, it’s quite good. I discovered it after it aired so when I started watching it I was able to binge it. So sad it was cancelled but at least it had numerous seasons.

I’ve not watched this reboot but from all the negative reviews I see in these comments I think I’m better off not bothering hahaha.

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022) S1 E2
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The take your child to work scene was so ridiculous lol. Still unsure about this show though. Since it’s a satire it’s not really very funny to me at least. I usually love dark comedy but this one perplexes me for some reason. Maybe it’s because Bell usually does much more comedic roles. But I’ll keep watching for a few more epis.

I was sad to see the news that they canceled this show. It was fun.

Squid Game (2021) S1 E6

Oh man, that was a brutal epi. It’s getting down to the wire & they have to eliminate some of the favored characters. Still don’t have to like it though.

For anyone wondering: The song is “Do Ya Wanna Taste It.” The band is Wig Wam. And if you dig what Wig Wam is selling, I sincerely recommend checking out a band called The Darkness.

Very dark, bizarre & funny cartoon. May trigger some due to the subject matter of the 1st epi. So watch at your own risk.

The Watcher (2022)
augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

Watched the 1st epi last night & man talk about a creepy great show. Stellar cast w/Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale & Jennifer Coolidge of the known names but the rest of the cast is great too. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
alexisbits 4 points 1 year ago.

Definitely! The next two are pretty good as well. The last two (which I think were direct-to-DVD) are so-so.

augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

I’ve only seen this & Night Of The Living Dead. I didn’t get into horror till much later in life.

What We Do in the Shadows (2019) S4 E1
etim 2 points 1 year ago.

Good to see this is back for another season after they seemed to have stepped up their game last season. I’m guessing they got a budget boost—it looked it.

augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

They received a budget boost after season one & since it caught on & became so popular it’s obvious their budget has grown each season. You can tell by the FX particularly but also the bigger sets, among other things.

In Bruges (2008)
kahnwiley 8 points 2 years ago.

One of my favorites. You might enjoy McDonagh’s “Seven Psychopaths,” which has a great cast including Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken. The plot is slightly more absurd, but the tone and humor are similar.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

Oh yes loved that one too. So funny. I love movies w/lots of twisted dark humor. Thanks.

Dark Winds (2022) S1 E6

Excellent television. Renewed for a second season. Right on.

Great to hear. It is excellent, although I’ve only seen the 1st epi. The scenery & cinematography alone is incredible, but every aspect is great.

Shelter (2015)
Birdsforme 1 points 2 years ago*.

Topside is also about being homeless. Set in New York, it focuses on a mother and her young daughter, who live in the tunnels under the train system. When all the people are kicked out from the tunnels, the little girl has to be above ground for the first time. It is very tramatic for her. The story focuses on her perspective.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago*.

Yes I looked it up & added it when I made my previous comment, thanks. Since you like this movie check out Dogville that I mentioned above. I think you might like it: https://www.primewire.tf/movie/584249-dogville

Holeeeeey f**k! Here I thought The Byrds were in deep doo last epi but this one tops it. Great epi. I hope Julia Garner (Ruth) wins an Emmy for this epi. She is just phenomenal! The writers of this show keep outdoing themselves epi after epi. Looking forward to seeing what happens the remainder of this season.

Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (2021)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The actor playing Langdon just has no depth of skill or any heart. Made this hard to get into. I’ll give the 2nd epi a try. Hopefully it will improve.

Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (2021)
TisOnlyMe 5 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I totally agree with that, no charisma from the lead actor. I managed to get through 2 eps of this before deciding it’s not worth the bother. In retrospect this was the only one of Dan Brown’s books i couldn’t get into, it’s all too far-fetched, so i suppose i shouldn’t be surprised at not liking the series. Disappointing though :((x

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I’m sure the book is much better. I was planning to read it anyway.

I think the fault may be the director’s though since none of the other characters really had much personality/charisma either except the main security guard imo.

Let the Wrong One In (2023)
alexisbits 5 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Pretty funny. You’ve got the usual tropes (Transylvania, cute older guy who kills vampires, sunlight and garlic). But there’s so much more. The brother/son who prioritized his family, those nasty garlic fries, the vampire bride who wore crosses, The Bunny (if you know, you know). Club Crypt looks like a fun place, vampires meet Hellraiser meet “Night of the Demons”.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

I’ll put this on my list. Have you seen the vampire movie ‘Let The Right One in’? Totally serious & different from this but so good. The title of this made me think of it. There’s also a US remake called ‘Let Me In’ that’s good too but a bit different vibe to it than the creepy original.

The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)

Such a great yet bizarre movie. Amazing cast. I need to watch it again.

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
augusts1 3 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Such a beautiful epic film. A love story for the ages. Both Tilda & Idris have such a wonderful chemistry & since their conversations make up the majority of the film there needed to be great chemistry to carry the movie. Just a fascinating storyline & every aspect is well done. I do have an issue with the fact that the djinn needs to go away due to the technological noises that bring him pain. Why did she not sell her house & move to an area where the noise wasn’t an issue for him. Seemed odd to me. Still a fantastic movie although due to it being dialogue heavy it might not have enough action for some people & be slowly paced. Highly recommended though
.

All good. It’s nice of you to come down fron Asgard to mingle with us mere mortals. Enjoy the series, but you might want to skip season 4. Chris Rock just doesn’t work for this.

Agreed. I couldn’t get into season 4. I just couldn’t connect w/any of the characters. I only watched the 1st 4 or 5 epis & never finished it.

Civil War (2024)
augusts1 3 points 28 days ago.

This looks great from the trailers. Love Garland’s movies. He’s such a master storyteller. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen from him. His movies are trippy AF too which I love since they usually mess w/your perception of what is going on in the movie.

Very Bad Things (1998)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

Wow, this is what I’d call the epitome of a dark comedy. Found myself laughing at the over the top but great performances by the stellar ensemble cast & then sombered by the dark circumstances of the plot. Definitely not a movie that everyone will get or appreciate though due to it’s very dark humor. It’s very twisted. Worth a watch if you like dark comedies.

Resolution (2013)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Trippy indie film. It interweaves folklore, the history of the area around the cabin & the paranormal among other things. It’s never really explained what is happening which is what the characters experience. But it mostly is a conversation between two friends struggling to get a grip on the addiction of one of them.

I was fascinated & the 90 minute run time went by fast for a mainly dialogue driven film. Really speaks to the writing & development of the characters & the actors who play them. Definitely worth seeing.

Cool, I’m looking forward to it. The site that I originally watched this on when it was first out only had dubbing which was horrid so I stopped watching it about half way through as much as I loved it. Thank goddess Primewire has subs available!

Severance (2022)
SATURNINE999 -6 points 2 years ago.

The suspension of disbelief is far too challenging in this attempt at implausible sc-fi noir (?).
Anybody stupid enough to sell 1/2 their brain to any corporation deserves their lot. I dunno if I can keep watching this dud to realize all the intricacies of these BOTTOM LINE STUPID PROTAGONISTS. This is like a means test to the end of who is most like a sheep in a flock of corporate prostitution. The entire premise is flimsy and hastily subtexted. There are plenty who would reign in ell rather than serve in heaven. This depiction is one of the less interesting of the genre. This is like those Missing hbo with Justin (Aniston ex?). Asinine thesis that went nowhere in philosophical dead ends and very soon subsequently cancelled . Even Patricia Arquette can’t save this one.

augusts1 4 points 2 years ago.

Thank you. Your review made me want to check it out further to see what you’re going on about. I ended up loving it & getting hooked on the 1st epi. It’s truly brilliant & found myself laughing at the black humor at various points throughout. The acting is just stellar & I was all in from watching the trailer alone. So thank you for your point of view that motivated me to find out for myself if it was worth my time. It very well is worth it.

Blood Drive was my intro to Richson. Loved that show, it was SO over the top. Just a wild ride literally. Definitely a tribute to the grindhouse movie genre. I was not happy it got canceled.

Soylent Green (1973)
PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago.

I was in jr high when this movie came out but for some reason I’ve never watched it. Maybe because I was never a fan of Edward G. Robinson and I certainly didn’t like Charlton Heston! The one actor who is still alive is Taylor-Young and I honestly know nothing about her. I have next week off, so maybe I’ll make time to watch this movie and put aside my dislike of Heston.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

It’s definitely a classic sci-fi movie worth seeing at least once since it’s influence has permeated pop culture since it came out. I recall it being on TV regularly back when I was a kid then so I’ve seen it several times.

All of Us Are Dead (2022) S1 E1

The premise isn’t necessarily new, but this first episode still manages to bring something new to the zombie subgenre. I look forward to seeing where it goes.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago*.

I enjoyed it because it’s from a different culture than the US which gave it a fresh feel for an old subgenre of teen zombie movies but nothing new that I saw.
