If the one you saw ended at 53:37, you didn’t miss much there an extra couple of seconds of Kim and then the credits, it’s all good man ;) (you can check Mixdrop if you want to see it full)

Servant (2019) S1 E1
magically_delicious 3 points 4 years ago.

At first I was unsure about this episode and the seemingly whingy mother, but as I watched, I became more intrigued at where it’s going, and who the characters are. The single camera angles are unsettling, and it has a very “Rosemary’s Baby” feel going on overall. This is more of a suspenseful-Thriller, than a high octane Thriller, definitely.

Normal People (2020) S1 E12
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This series is brilliantly and authentically acted to the point of feeling like a voyeur in the lives of Connell and Marianne. I was thoroughly engrossed by the book, and the film follows the book with dedication, until the ending. Although not drastically different, I do wish they had not changed it. The ending in the book would have had just as much impact, without changing the intent of the writer, which this adaptation most certainly did. 4/5

I cannot get past the narrator for this series. He has a terrible voice for narration. Thank you for the links uplinkers.

Fierce Queens (2020)
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago.

Though the content of this “series” creates an atmosphere of potential further interest, at 7 minutes in length, Quibi has made these episodes an unnecessary chore. Even watching back to back, this series (and other Quibi medium) is more of an advert than anything truly of value or informational. I don’t have this streaming service for exactly this reason…they never get to the meat and bone and only scratch the surface with claw-less hands.

On the Case with Paula Zahn (2009) S20 E15
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This is one of Paula’s more intense and riveting episodes…the depravity and sheer horror of what this obviously life-affirming and beautiful, young woman went through is beyond reckoning. To dismember the body of someone you live with, and have a baby with, with the baby in the house, and to stuff her remains (torso only, the legs, arms and head have never been found) into a suitcase, and then place it under your child’s car seat whilst you drive it to a dumpster to dispose of it…is pure evil. The tragedy is two families lost their children, forever.

Alone (2015) S7 E10
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Season One of this Series was by far the best. This season, I’ve basically lost all hope that it isn’t rigged + they’ve now been allowed to bring way too many comforts and equipment to constitute authentic survival. Every time one of them mentions how their ancestors did this very same thing here [in Alaska] I literally role my eyes. Not one of them has any Eskimo heritage. They are (all but one) practicing survival as a “hobby” to reinforce their egos, and one even “chooses poverty during the Summer” and retreats to the comforts of her home when the going gets tough. Do the poverty stricken, and those facing harrowing circumstances in the wild ever choose these things? The remaining contestants (Kielyn Marrone aka “approval seeking screamer girl”; Callie Russell aka “let’s make talking puppets out of dead things”; and Roland Welker aka “I’m a man because I eat the blood of my kill”) as of this episode are at best annoying, and coached to emote. Any viewer can clearly see the repetitive coaching the producers are doing on the subject matter, and the obvious dramatic tactics for ratings boosting at work. The redundancy of what is given focus is a dead give away. Unfortunately, after recently reading several articles that contain statements from previous contestants, the fact is that the outcome is rigged by a popularity consensus in viewership stats. This episode, observing the one contestant that deserved to win “tap-out” (the only participant that was actually learning the value of being a part of — rather than apart from — the natural surroundings) and is gone. Each episode has been more annoying than the last as of this season, due primarily to the aforementioned remaining participants. To top it off, the interview process at the end of each episode Colby Donaldson post talks, with his florescent-white teeth blinding the viewer. It is well and truly the ruination of my loyalty to this show. 1/5 for all the planned theatrical nonsense.

Alone (2015) S7 E11
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

That was the most staged, theatrical play on the expectations of the viewer finale I would never have expected. Any viewer that watched Roland realised what a selfish person he was from the get go. Then he “admits” it via telling the viewer that in “training” for Alone, he refused to go to his mother’s funeral. Jump ahead, and suddenly Roland is admitting to treating his family poorly, his sister shows up and the theatrics begin. I have never in my whole life seen someone so uncomfortable with emotion, touching, or being close. From the looks of it, they did a couple takes of his sister hooting and hollering for joy. The parting shot of Roland shows a man who knows he has a part to play for an audience. This whole winning and coming to terms was unnecessarily over the top and contrived. The voice-overs for this whole season were pure sensationalism, and the “on camera” events were quite obviously staged. Roll back to Seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 and Alone was quite a different animal. 1/5

Hunting Emma (2018)
magically_delicious 3 points 5 years ago.

This film ROCKS! I loved it on all levels. It has a really interesting storyline that has an excellent and fast pace, thorough background, and characters that draw you in. The characters has depth, which is something really lacking in most films today. This is a brilliant film for a strong, yet feminine, female lead; she does not need to become a man and fight a man’s fight to show her strength. It is in Afrikaans, but this language is incredibly similar in sound to Dutch, and German, and many times the words are similar to English. It is an easy film to follow if you need the subtitles, which are done in an excellent translation as well. Emma kicks arse!! I am so pleased to see the links here so I thank you uplinkers/uploaders. :)

Real Detective (2016) S2 E8
Bigfoot Files (2013)
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Contrary to what an initial glance at the name of this short series might suggest, this is not a search for Bigfoot. “Bigfoot Files” is a scientific analysis (DNA) of the (many) hair samples taken from the United States, Nepal and Russia to discover the actual animal origins. It is surprising in many ways, one of which uncovers that the Yeti has direct DNA to an ancient Polar Bear that was believed to be extinct over 40,000 years ago. It’s an enjoyable watch, if you want to uncover the truth/facts of what has been presented so far as “evidence”.

Into the Unknown (2020)
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago.

I’m two episodes in, and this series is a bit of fluff and fun, combined with science, and filled with some absolutely stunning locations and scenery. From the perspective of learning the origins of legends, folklore and unexplained disappearances, this is interesting information. There’s no hysteria or superficial sensationalism on the behalf of the host, Cliff Simon, just some opportunities to explore other parts of the world and native rituals, etc. from a scientific approach, 3.5/5

Better Call Saul (2015) S5 E10
magically_delicious 3 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

The writing, direction and acting on this show is the crème de la crème for me. However, this season finale felt very anticlimactic to me (despite being a great episode).

I suppose this is because originally this was to be the last episode and season leading up to the Saul Goodman of Breaking Bad, and now they have another (Season 6) to work with. I am very happy to know there’s another season ahead, but there definitely weren’t any “ah-ha!” moments for me; the writers are showing they know how to create a desire for more in their viewing audience.

This is a pretty watchable film. I was entertained enough to keep watching it, though it isn’t something I’d ever watch again. It was a good filler film for me. JU-ON: Origins (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 3 years ago*.

This graphic telling of Ju-On Origins is gritty, gruesome and filled to the waterline with rapes, murder, abuse, violence and sex… it holds nothing back and is not for children. This is the original Japanese telling and is nothing like its anglicised counterpart “The Grudge” (which is originally Ju-On and succeeds this series). Hold onto your heart; nothing is sacred in this horrifically near perfect creation. Remember though, this is an “origins” story… it is not Ju-On itself, it is merely the beginning. 4.9/5

You Were Never Really Here (2017)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*.

I first saw this when it premiered. I have been a “fan” of Joaquin Phoenix since “Signs”, “Her”, “Gladiator”, and before… he is an accomplished actor who designs his own career by playing characters, rather than becoming one in real life. He can change his physical form, mannerisms and even the way his eyes look either alert and engaged with life, or completely disenfranchised with life and in a world of his own. This film is one of his best; it is captivating, disheartening, confusing, brutal and lovely.

Judy (2019)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*.

Judy Garland’s last year of life is brought into heart-breakingly sharp focus in “Judy”. Renée Zellweger’s physical and emotional mimicry of Judy is poignant and true-to-life. Although I was hesitant to watch this biopic, I am very glad I did. It is not a life story, but a snippet at the end of a life, that includes the emotional life of the gifted and large-hearted, Judy Garland. Whilst the verbal interactions from the film cannot be authenticated, the situations can. I very much enjoyed the light they have Judy in; it feels respectful. Lorna Luft (one of Judy’s two daughters) has stated that she will not watch this film so as to protect her mother’s “legacy and legendary career”, and further encourages fans to watch her [Judy’s] films to learn about her. “Judy” is marvelously acted, and Zellweger is nearly mesmerising to someone who’s watched Judy Garland films. To compare the Judy of this film with the real Judy Garland, watch “The Wizard of Oz”, “A Star is Born”, and “Meet Me in St. Louis”, and you will know that the Judy of this film, is the Judy that should be known.

The Bay of Silence (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

“Bay of Silence” is a mystery/love story with thriller elements. Sadly, the pacing of this story is so far off it feels like several films thrown together. Claes Bang, “Will” (from BBC’s re-imaging of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” 2020) is a strong, and very versatile actor, who is surrounded by a veteran supporting cast (Brian Cox, Alice Krige) as well as Olga Kurylenko as the vulnerable, mysteriously confused “Rosalind”Will’s girlfriend/wife. It turns out Rosalind has been hiding schizophrenia from Will (I’m not sure why it’s a surprise with the medication she takes and her erratic behaviour). Nonetheless, the viewer is asked/forced to believe that Will is blind to this, despite being portrayed as strong, capable, and insightful. This is my main issue with the film, and the pacing flows from the decision to force the viewer to ignore the obvious. It’s not an awful film, but it does no service to the very capable actors or the viewer. 2.5/5 a one time watch for Claes Bang

Inheritance (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I was genuinely not impressed by this film. It’s incredibly predictable from its casting to its plot. Above all, do not watch the trailer or you will end up easily surmising what the “mystery” is. Unfortunately, I watched the trailer and my “expectations” were in fact the entire story-line and arc. My biggest issue with the entire film is Lily Collins as the New York County District Attorney. There is absolutely no way to suspend disbelief that someone her age could have accumulated the creditials and experience to hold that title. She is not “A” district attorney; she is “THE” County District Attorney. Schooling alone would have had to have started when she was 5. Whoever wrote that in, and didn’t settle for a lesser career, didn’t think things through logically enough and killed the believability for the primary character. The rest, is also colour by numbers. Simon Pegg is Simon Pegg. He’s become a characterisation of his own various personas that he created [inclusive] from “Shaun of the Dead” to “Paul”. The wig as a touch too far and made his part unintentionally comedic (think “Spinal Tap”). I found myself bored during this film, and very disappointed. It should have been so much better. 2.5/5.

The Walking Dead (2010) S10 E13
magically_delicious 5 points 4 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Brilliant episode that pulled out all the stops and delivered a 100% satisfying watch in every zombie, apocalyptic and emotion driven way. At approximately 47:50 the actor is Breeda Wool aka “Lou Linklatter” from Mr. Mercedes. I love to see that they can still write the good stuff to give to such a talented group of actors. This also confirms that Michonne will be in the upcoming films. This is the episode Walking Dead fans have been waiting for. 5/5 for this episode for me.

Swallow (2020)
magically_delicious 5 points 4 years ago.

I was completely drawn into this character study/horror. It’s not a paranormal, monster, or criminal horror. It’s the slow, whispering, evocative study of a pathology that controls and forces the protagonist to examine her life and the seemingly loving people she is surrounded by. I dismissed it on my first watch, realising I was not in the right mind set to watch it. Later, I watched it when I could give it my full attention. It is captivating in the most insidious sense.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020)
magically_delicious 5 points 4 years ago*.

As for the first episode, it is an anemic and flimsy, skeletal half cousin to Eva Green’s “Penny”, for a start. The wriintg is chaoitic and unrepentant and without uniform purpose. The story is without a voice. Avoid.

Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago.

Unfortunately the mainstream, generic approach to this series has thus far (4 episodes in) made it cliché in writing and direction. I am largely un-engaged and find each episode a chore to watch. I hope it improves, but that’s hoping for a lot to change.

Web of Lies (2014)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*.

This series of verified internet stalking, murder, profiling, and chronic sociopathy is at very least spine tingling. Taken in the realism with which it warrants, these cases are factual horror. Who needs Dracula when humans are capable of such insidious evil?

The Lodge (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago.

The entire style of this film is completely wonky. The main issue with this film is lack of character development. It attempts to be a bit like “Mother” and a bit like “The Witch” (in style, not content), and only succeeds in being a frustration to the characters themselves. There is very little information on any of the characters, just some random comments and peeks at a backstory here and there. There is nothing that completely establishes the collision of events that the viewer has before them. To compound the confusion, none of the characters are entirely likeable. The acting is mediocre, with the exception of Jaeden Martell (“It”, “The Book of Henry”), who succeeds even here in creating his “Aidian” quite seemlessly. The forced stylisation ultimately takes the film from frustration to frustration for the viewer expecting any form of an organised horror. 2.5/5

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago.

This is one of the few intentionally saccharine sweet Christmas movies that actually delivers it’s message of hope in a classy package… thanks to Kurt Russell. I loved this film; it’s fun, it’s modernised and it is paced really well. Watch for the cameo of “Mrs Claus” at the end… and get ready, “The Christmas Chronicles 2” is on its way for Christmas 2020, with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

The Lighthouse (2019)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Although touted as a horror, I would definitely classify this as a straight-up Drama/Fantasy with a Mystery element, due to its reliance on hallucinations, dreamscapes, and lunatic musings. There is nothing even remotely frightening about this piece, although if you are in the mood for its slow, intentional pace, it is quite interesting to look at. As far as the story-line goes, it is difficult to uniformly assess, and it is therefore left entirely up to the subjective deciphering of the individual viewer. I will not be watching this again as the pacing was a little too tedious for me, especially because I went in after reading it was “nightmarish” and “frightening”, and it was neither to me. The imagery is chaotic, and mesmerising, in a sick-to-your-stomach kind of way.

Freaks (2019)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

An engaging Sci-fi supernatural thriller that is a combination of “Firestarter” with mutants, tinged with suggestions of “Brightburn”. Interestingly, in order to conceal the significant plot holes, this film is stylised to appear low budget, despite utilising well known actors like Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern. It’s definitely a lot of fun and quite engaging. Freaks is worth staying with through its slowish start, as the overall entertainment factor is satisfying.

Dracula (2020) S1 E3
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*.

Truly the worst 3rd installment in the history of Dracula EVER. What started off as innovative has digressed into an almost “drunken” meandering of nonsensical shite that inspired a guilty and imposed, “let’s call it Dracula”, afterthought. I won’t ever be re-watching this or recommending it. This started with such promise. I reckon someone got drunk mid way, and impulsively called it a wrap. They then flew to the Bahamas to recover and hide in shame and booze. SAD. (EIDT 21 JULY 2020: I did re-watch, with a friend. The first episode is brilliant, and well worth it. The second is nearly as good. Skip the last episode, and the series is worth it.)

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This Docu-series is truly weirdness personified. The facts are thoroughly obscured and overshadowed by human greed and narcissism. I’ve been to the facility in Oklahoma more than a few years back, prior to it the more seriously delusional public freak show that this Netflix Docu-Series represents. This series clearly isn’t about what is best for these wild, large cat species, no matter which version of the “truth” the viewer ascribes. This series has succeeded in bringing global awareness to the public in terms of the truly horrifying aspects of trafficking exotic animals by an ever growing number of truly vile humans. That includes Carol Baskin and PETA, as well as countless law officials. No one in this story is innocent. The 7 episodes are pretty twisted viewing, with no clear cut facts to derive any one universal truth from. It is an intriguing watch. Overall it’s a 4/5 for me with some individual episodes being more of a 3/5.

Guns Akimbo (2020)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago.

Quirky, irreverent, strange and violent, heavily accented by a colourful visual display, “Guns Akimbo” with Daniel Radcliffe, shows how incredibly talented this actor is. Radcliffe has smashed his “Harry Potter” type cast to smithereens. Samara Weaving also demonstrates how the “pretty girl” type cast is rubbish to her, as she emerges bloody and cheeky on every level of this mesmerisingly in-your-face black comedy, action/thriller. Highly watchable violence and enjoyably diverse black comedy. All I can say is “WOW”. Season Two has a running start and seems to be keeping the momentum of Season One. The sardonic wit and emotional observations are incredible. I see Jason Bateman is an Executive Producer, as well. I love this show. It is original and FULL. Highly recommended!

The Killing Season (2016) S1 E2

I somehow missed this show when it came out back in 2016. It is absolutely riveting. It is filmed in a documentary style with a lot of evidence and actual interviews. At first glance I thought this was a dramatised Crime series. It’s not. It’s an information packed “hunt” by two investigative documentarians to find a serial killer… or, serial killers! Highly recommended!

I cannot emphasise enough how absolutely mesmerising and different this Series is. With its costumes and authentic attire of the time, to its customs, and (semi) historical facts, it takes a “plague” into a completely different and captivating watch. I binged all 2 seasons over 3 days and now I honestly wish there was more. To me, this is on par with Game of Thrones (prior to season 6). This is NOT just zombies, it is so much more. It is amazing and I would highly recommend it to even those who read other comments about zombies and say they’ve had enough…this one is in a class all of it’s own. 5/5 in every way.

Bahahahaha, wahahahahah, snigger snigger snigger guts, gore and egomaniacal genetically modified, super heroes. The chat up with The Deep’s gills was pure genius. This series is a complete satire on life as we know it. I love it. I thought Season 2 couldn’t possibly be as completely engrossing and original as Season 1 — I am so pleased to be absolutely wrong. This is not for children. I love the gruesome pleasure of even Homelander’s breast milk fetish. Every episode leads to the overwhelmingly intense desire for more, more, MORE. PS - It’s no coincidence “Stormfront” is named thusly (white nationalist, white supremacist, antisemitic, Holocaust-denialist,and neo-Nazi term) proven by her murdering last words to Kimiko’s younger brother Kenji. Highly recommended. 5/5

Expedition Bigfoot (2019) S1 E2
magically_delicious 3 points 4 years ago*.

After watching the second episode, I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying this “show”. I enjoy Bigfoot the way I enjoy anything unknown; such as vampires and aliens and ghosts. I don’t believe, or necessarily disbelieve. This show is extremely well-choreographed, and has a bonus actual primatologist, as well as cutting edge, high-tech gadgetry. If you enjoy the aforementioned as entertainment… and maybe more, it’s an entertaining watch.

NOS4A2 (2019) S2 E4
magically_delicious 3 points 3 years ago*.

At an actual 46 minutes in length, this episode has now devolved into what the first season was. They’ve taken a true horror novel and made it 90% pure, agonising melodrama. 35 minutes of this episode (and the last 2 episodes) have been explanations and dramatic sequences, not visual story-telling, leaving perhaps 10 minutes of actual forward momentum to pique the viewers interest. It’s the horror and supernatural equivalent of a rotten pumpkin on Halloween. Maybe that’s the horror of this adaptation? {{{sigh}}} 2.5/5

Maniac (2018)
magically_delicious 3 points 5 years ago.

WOW. This is an amazing amalgamation of genres and styles that is 110% entertainment at it’s best. “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “Alien”, “Blade Runner” and sprinkling of anime and a pinch of retro (yet, not), and some black humour, as well as excellent visuals and multiple and ever-expansive story-lines and that’s what this treasure is. And we’ve got all the episodes in abundance! This is a binge watcher’s dream come true. Somehow for me, this series was more like watching a film, even if I were to watch the episodes one at a time. Etim means the embedded version (AKA: “Version 1”, etc., not the “Direct” link) will have the sub choices. However, for this film, the “Direct” link upload does have HC English subs, so you don’t necessarily need to use the embedded version. In the future, when it’s not HC English subs on the upload, there are probably sub choices on the embedded version(s). Best of luck. I hope it’s good film! :)
