Truth Seekers (2020)
DemandingFemale 9 points 3 years ago.

If you’re hoping for the magic of the Pegg/Frost/Edgar Wright trio, you’ll be sadly dissapointed. Of course, if you’re happy just seeing Pegg and Frost back on screen together, then it’ll be right up your street. For me, it fell a bit flat so I’m hoping they inject a few more decent LOL’s for season 2 (which Frost has been hinting at already)

The new episodes are crazy sad too, if you haven’t seen them.

Red Dwarf: The First Three Million Years (2020)
DemandingFemale 7 points 3 years ago.

For anyone that has already seen the series documentaries released on the DVD’s, you won’t get much more out of these, other than up-to-date interviews with cast and crew that cover the same things, and snippets of post-series 10 shows. If you haven’t seen them, they give you a much more in-depth look at each individual series. Still, it’s Red Dwarf… it’s all worth watching ;)

Ghosts of War (2020)
DemandingFemale 6 points 3 years ago.

Starts well - gets interesting - falls at the last hurdle.
For such a small cast, there are plenty of familiar faces; including a bit of Billy Zane action, who hasn’t been credited in the synopsis. Over-all a good attempt at a supernatural war movie, that is only really let down by B-grade CGI and a shoddy end. If you’re into British made war-horror, Deathwatch and Dog Soldiers are both worth checking out.

3.5/5

#Alive (2020)
DemandingFemale 8 points 3 years ago.

If you’re into Korean zombies, this one is definitely worth a watch. It’s a little slow-paced, with a very small living cast, but what it lacks in action it makes up for with a few great infection transformations and an enthusiastic delivery from the infected. Korean’s seem to have a knack for violent transformations and fast-moving Z’s - Me likey.
My only real criticism is the missing English subtitles for on-screen text.

Train to Busan (2016)
DemandingFemale 8 points 3 years ago*.

There’s little else I could add that hasn’t already been said by others. It’s not only one of the best zombies movies, but probably one of the best horrors of the last decade.
Man, I love fast swarming zombies.

The Rental (2020)
DemandingFemale 6 points 3 years ago.

If ever a film could be summed up with the word ‘meh’, this is it. I don’t mind slow burns when there is a reward at the end, but I feel a bit cheated that reward never materialised. 2.5 - rounded up to 3 because it’s Dave Franco’s first feature length (co-wrote and directed)

Thanks PW Teams :)

You Should Have Left (2020)
DemandingFemale 7 points 3 years ago.

The synopsis is slightly incorrect, although it does involve a house in Wales.

A former banker, his actress wife, and their daughter book a vacation at an isolated modern home in the Welsh countryside where nothing is quite as it seems.

As systemsoundbar has already said, it pulls very strongly from other sources, including The House of Leaves, and a Creepypasta short story: The Dionaea House. It brings nothing new, or exciting, or particularly scary to either the mystery or horror genre. IMDb ratings have reduced to 5.4, which is about right.

Amazing Stories (2020) S1 E5
DemandingFemale 8 points 4 years ago.

This episode was so reminiscent of the original ‘85 Spielberg series, and all the better for it. My favourite of the 5. Really hope there are more to come in the future.

Underwater (2020)
JadeEnigma 4 points 4 years ago.

Same. I tried. I do enjoy a good monster movie, but I really struggled with this and gave up with about 15 minutes to go when I realised I was forcing myself to keep plugging away at it. I also want to like Kristen Stewart because I love how she triggers the you-know-whats, but damn she’s stiff.

DemandingFemale 6 points 4 years ago.

They actually shot the film in 2017 with a projected 2020 release date. So this is what they came up with in 3 years of post-production. Meh!

Underwater (2020)
DemandingFemale 5 points 4 years ago.

Damn. I really wanted to like it but, damn. No character introduction. No setting introduction. It was so dark you spend the whole second act squinting. There’s also an audio limiter on the DVD copies I have watched - So, probably best watched with headphones if you don’t want to be forever turning the sound up and down. It’s an underwhelming shit sandwich of Kirsten Stewart narration.

Thanks PW Team :)

A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio (2019)
DemandingFemale 7 points 4 years ago.

A Horror-Anthology of 8 shorts bridged together by the host of a horror radio show. Some truly great shorts, so don’t be put off by the B-movie feel of the bridging. There are a couple of Argentinian-Spanish shorts which don’t seem to have subtitles; again, don’t be put off - you miss nothing.
Some great writing, acting, makeup and directing. Creepy AF in parts and exactly what horror is lacking right now. I recommend it to any fan of the genre.

Thanks PW Teams :)

The Hunt (2020)
DemandingFemale 13 points 4 years ago.

I enjoyed it for what it was - A black-comedy with action and bloody death. It’s a satirical lampooning of both ends of the political spectrum; a mishmash of stereotypical characters and a script designed to perpetuate their worst stereotypical traits, whilst infuriating those it’s poking fun at for all the wrong reasons.
Some of it is so OTT I genuinely laughed out loud. If you don’t take it too seriously you’ll probably really enjoy it.

Thanks PW team :)

Brahms: The Boy II (2020)
DemandingFemale 0 points 4 years ago.

A good contender for the worst movie of the year. It’ll definitely be up there in the shortlist that’s for sure. It’s even more predictable than its predecessor and has less suspense and horror than an episode of Goosebumps.
I know many Chiller fans will enjoy it, but it wasn’t for me.

Thanks PW Team :)

The Grudge (2020)
DemandingFemale 4 points 4 years ago.

Wow, what a mess. It’s not so much a remake but more like fan fiction; taking the Ju-On curse - in name only - and Westernizing it. I agree with others regarding the music, which screams at you so loudly in parts, that even the jump-scares lose their impact.
The original Ju-On and The Grudge didn’t do much better in terms of ratings, but are certainly better films if you’re into suspenseful Asian horror.

Amazing Stories (1985) S1 E5
DemandingFemale 4 points 4 years ago.

Extended episode with a runtime of 46 minutes. Set during WWII. Stars Kevin Costner and Kiefer Sutherland, with a few more faces you might recognise.
One of the better episodes so far.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981)
DemandingFemale 5 points 4 years ago.

This is the story of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Perhaps the most remarkable, certainly the most successful book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor. More popular than the Celestial Homecare Omnibus, better selling than 53 More Things to do in Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolong Colluphid’s trilogy of philosophical blockbusters “Where God Went Wrong” “Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes” and “Who is This God Person, Anyway?”.

One of my all time favourites! If you enjoy this series, or even the abomination of a remake, I would strongly recommend you check out the original books and BBC Radio 4 series. They don’t age quite as much as the TV series and are hilariously funny.

Thanks Linkers!

The Dark Red (2020)
DemandingFemale 8 points 4 years ago.

Definitely more psychological thriller than horror. A very slow burn from beginning to end, so expect more suspense, less action and just a smidgen of blood. Decent budget, decent acting, okay story. I would have given it 3.5 but had to round it up.

Thanks PW Linkers :)

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020)
DemandingFemale 8 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Absolutely gut-wrenching. Contains several graphic images of Gabriel’s injuries and extensive descriptions of the abuse and injuries he suffered before he died. Not for the faint-hearted if you’re deeply affected by the subject matter.

The systematic failures of every department involved is staggering, and still continues to contribute to the deaths of hundreds of innocent, vulnerable people every year. Anyone turning a blind eye to abuse and neglect; whether that be child, spouse or elder, should be prosecuted. This ‘do not get involved’ mentality needs to stop. See something - Say something, and keep saying it until action is taken.

I’ve never come across alien life during my space explorations.
I’m directing that raspberry sound that’s made with the tongue in your general direction. ;)

I was talking science-fiction not science-fact ;)

Outpost (Short 2020) (2020)
DemandingFemale 0 points 4 years ago.

It’s pretty to look at but such a borefest. It offers nothing original when it comes to Sci-Fi space exploration.
Justin Giddings and Ryan Patrick Welsh (the lead male) have collabed on a couple of shorts now, with a feature-length zombie comedy in the works. Hopefully, with a larger budget, they can do a bit better.

Flight of the Living Dead (2008)
DemandingFemale 3 points 4 years ago*.

You get exactly what it says on the tin: Zombies on a plane.
Well, infected on a plane, same difference.
B-grade horror with lots of familiar faces. If you’re into campy B-gore, cheap effects, and enjoy scoffing at facepalmable decision making, then you’ll love it!

Thanks to the UL’s and Linkers :)

Wrong Number (2018)
DemandingFemale 2 points 4 years ago*.

Wrong Number starts out ominously promising but ultimately leads to nothing but confusion. Its short run-time is its saving grace. Good for the horror-short fans.

Thanks to the linkers :)

Dracula (2020)
DemandingFemale 4 points 4 years ago.

A reimagining of the classic Dracula story. The first 2 episodes I found to be wonderfully Gothic, with beautiful dark Victorian era sets and an adequate mix of horror and wit. I even forgave the terrible wavering accents by the cast. But… by episode 3, both Moffat and Gatiss had obviously hit the crack pipe, hard! What a mess. I want my 4.5 hours back - and some of my TV license fee that went towards paying for this crap.

Haunt (2019)
DemandingFemale 6 points 4 years ago.

Haunt was far better than expected and, in my opinion, much more enjoyable than the recent Escape Room movies. It’s a Halloween Haunted House off the beaten track, a bunch of college kids and a ton of uncomfortable bloodshed. It’s not going to win awards, but it is a nice little Halloween horror that fans of the genre might enjoy.

Eli Roth is credited as one of the movies producers.

Thanks PW team :)

Gunpowder (2017)
DemandingFemale 5 points 4 years ago.

Guy Fawkes’ name may have become infamously tied with the plot, but few know the names of the other 12 conspirators. This goes someway to fixing that. They did take a little poetic license with some of the facts but the basic history is there. Brit’s still celebrate the foiled plot every November 5th, with bonfires, burning effigies and fireworks.

Christopher Catesby Harington (Kit) is actually a direct descendant of Robert Catesby, the ringleader of the entire plot.

It’s worth a watch if you’re interested in history or historic drama.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)
DemandingFemale 9 points 4 years ago.

Loved everything about it! I’m just happy to live in a time where I get to enjoy Taika Waititi.

A Christmas Carol (2019)
DemandingFemale 5 points 4 years ago.

It’s quite a dark adaptation meant for an adult audience. I didn’t realise this until Scrooge dropped his first F-bomb. It touches on some delicate topics, has some very mild horror/violence and occasional bad language. I really enjoyed it. It doesn’t matter in which guise the story is told, it’s a great tale of redemption.
Both Tom Hardy and Ridley Scott are credited as Executive Producer.

Richard Jewell (2019)
Ditzygypsy 9 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I wish people would say why they give something one star. I try to explain my judgement. Is the movie poorly made? Is the acting awful? Do you think it’s well-made but disagree with the content or slant of the perspective of the creators? I like biopics, and I remember this. I felt very sorry for him, and I believe the whole disaster they made of his life was definitely avoidable, but I don’t know the inside of the story (because I wasn’t there, as most of us also were not there) to know if there is or isn’t just one person to push that blame on. I want to see this because Eastwood makes good movies, and because it’s my favourite genre. I will come back and say if it liked it in an edit. But it doesn’t mean I liked the perspective, and I’ll try to say so if that’s the case. It is just one movie maker’s perspective. At any rate, Richard deserved a movie about his ordeal. That much I do feel strongly about. Please explain why you feel this is a low-rate, one-star movie. If you actually watched it, that is.
I’m not sure what I may have said that seemed like a spoiler in my actual “review” below, because I didn’t reveal anything that we don’t already know historically, but I was asked to put my spoiler parts in spoiler brackets. So I think I have to put this entire piece in as a spoiler? I have always understood history to be unspoilable unless you live under a rock. Please don’t live under a rock.
EDIT: I enjoyed the movie. The acting was superb. I felt the same heartache for Richard as I always did. I don’t think the Press is bad. Reporting is necessary, especially where politicians are concerned! I’m not American, but I don’t believe the FBI is corrupt, but there are ambitious people who seem soulless in every line of work. I think this was a snowballing effect of tunnel vision and personal ambition, but the reporter who stared it all is also no longer here to add any further personal insight to her actions. This is one take on the story, and for the most part, as we saw it unfold in front of our eyes, this is what happened on the outside. Whether or not what went on inside the minds and through the actions of the key players in the FBI and the Press happened the way this movie shows us, we can’t know for certain. But something did go wrong, and it was human action that caused it. I believe the Press is very important, and there are hundreds of journalists who do their jobs with integrity, just as there are those integrity-driven people populating law enforcement. There are bad people in every line of work. This movie in no way changes my opinion of the news I take in or my feelings about the good that law enforcement does. I am just glad Richard’s story got told. My heart goes out to his mother, too, since I’m a single mom of one son. Thank you, uploaders.

DemandingFemale 5 points 4 years ago*.

The ‘Spoiler’ thing is probably to keep the comment section a little tidier when discussions are going on. Especially when unrelated to the movie. You should copy and paste your review into a separate comment without the spoilers brackets.
As for everything else - couldn’t agree more. I spend a bit of time upvoting and star’ing things to even the odds. Screw ‘em.

V Wars (2019)
DemandingFemale 3 points 4 years ago.

I’m out. I gave it a couple of episodes but it’s turning into a melodrama with a bit of blood. It checks almost every box when it comes to cliche characters, none of which are remotely likeable. It’s like a mix of Helix/The Strain with a bad case of The Ships cheesy writing style and OTT dramatic delivery.

Summer Camp (2016)
DemandingFemale 3 points 4 years ago.

You know you’re in for a shitfest of a film when those infected by the ‘rage-inducing plague’ are smarter than the ones fleeing them. Full of really dumb, unlikeable characters and set in a beautifully creepy location that is poorly utalised. If you’re into horror contagion/zombie movies you might enjoy it for a 1 time watch… but leave your common sense at the door.

Thanks PW team :)

Freaks (2019)
DemandingFemale 7 points 4 years ago.

I really enjoyed that! The synopsis really doesn’t do it justice, but any more info would ruin the fun. Lexy Kolker is a wonderful actress and very reminiscent of a young Drew Barrymore, with the same natural talent in front of the camera. Definitely worth a watch.
Thanks PW team :)

Overlord (2018)
DemandingFemale 6 points 4 years ago*.

I don’t know why so many hated on this movie. Yes, it brings nothing truly original to the genre, but it’s still a decent historic-horror. It has a small leading cast - including Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy, GoT) who is always fab to watch - moves along quickly and has some reasonable FX/makeup. When you peel back the layers, it’s still a zombie film at heart, and not a bad attempt at a good one. If that doesn’t sell it - there’s plenty of dead Nazis to find joy from.

lol. Based on what? Please, don’t take my word for it. Watch it and be your own judge.

Altitude (2010)

Take 5 douchey teenagers, stick them in a small plane with a crappy script, daft plot and poor lighting, and you’ve got a movie that is best avoided. The IMDb ratings are about right.

Orphan (2009)
Ditzygypsy 0 points 4 years ago.

She smartened up after she got to their home because she had burned bridges with other families and the jig was up. She had adult teeth at “8” years old for crying out loud. I’d like to see what Paul Ekman would say about her micro expressions and have him do a deception analysis on her. I think she’s a very good liar. And I hope those people are exonerated, too.

DemandingFemale 2 points 4 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

It’s not just the teeth thing that I found odd. You could even excuse the results of the bone density testing she had due to her medical conditions. But the fact she, apparently, arrived from the Ukraine as a 5-year-old child, went through at least 30 other families in a matter of a few weeks before being adopted - unseen - by the Barnett’s at age 6; with no accent and full grasp of the English language. Yeah, right, lol.
She was hospitalized in a mental health facility for a while, and released by medical professionals to continue living alone in an apartment for about 2 years It’s just stranger than fiction.

Orphan (2009)
Ditzygypsy 1 points 4 years ago.

I’m not really a horror genre movie person, but I like thrillers. I don’t think this is a horror movie. Horrors are mostly absurd; someone’s nightmarish ideas put into film. This, however, could, for the most part, actually happen. In fact, there is a real life case that is similar, and the adopted “girl” has even managed to fool Dr.Phil. There’s a lot of important information that can be extracted from dental work, pardon the pun. Thank you, uploaders.

DemandingFemale 2 points 4 years ago.

I came here to see if anyone had mentioned the recent media coverage of the real case. Scary and creepy, eh? I watched some of her interview with her new weird adoptive parents and didn’t buy a word they said. I hope the original adopters aren’t found guilty of their charges.

Flight 7500 (2016)
DemandingFemale 3 points 4 years ago.

Short and sweet B+-Asian-style horror on a plane. English language, American actors. By Screenwriter Craig Rosenberg - Uninvited, The Quiet Ones, and currently writing for The Boys and Preacher - and Director Takashi Shimizu; Ju-On: The Grudge. You would expect a little more from them, but they failed to deliver much in the way of scares. Good for a lazy watch if B’s are your thing.

Secret Santa (2018)
DemandingFemale -1 points 4 years ago.

If you’re into B-movies you could do a whole lot worse than this one. Crude humour, bloody gore, awesomely mediocre acting and some terrible camera work. Has a few familiar faces, including Drew Lynch (The stuttering comedian). Definitely worth a watch if B-Horrors are your thing.

Sing Street (2016)

47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019)
DemandingFemale -2 points 4 years ago.

Defiant high-school girls, bikinis, scuba gear, caves and sharks - what could go wrong? Plenty of jump-scares, that kinda make up for the lack of anything else. Sits closers to Sharknado than Jaws on the Shark-movie scale. Still worth a watch if you’re into the genre.

Hoarders (2009) S9 E5
DemandingFemale 1 points 4 years ago.

This was probably the craziest and saddest episodes I’ve seen yet.

Event Horizon (1997)
DemandingFemale 4 points 4 years ago.

There is so much to dislike about Event Horizon but there’s also equally as much to love. It has plot holes you could drive a bus through, a cheesy dialogue and some pretty strange deliveries from some of the cast. But… Horror in space - yes please. It was due to be much longer, with extended graphic gore and a few scenes that would have plugged some of the plot holes. In the end, Anderson was made to cut 35 minutes from the test screener and Paramount failed to archive the footage for a Directors cut. It got mixed reviews when it was released in ‘97, but I liked it enough to see it a few times at the cinema. If you can see past some of the bad points it’s a great horror/sci-fi, that doesn’t look at all dated for a 22+ year old movie.

The Walking Dead (2010) S10 E5
gunnerdan -3 points 4 years ago.

Is it me or does anyone else find Negan talking to a “kid” about having “fat fingers and nut slapping” disturbing?

Into the Dark (2018)
greyfur 1 points 4 years ago.

Well then. Just scrolled through a few, now, with the additional information you gave me, and discovered each comes with a synopsis,so I can pick and choose from them with a bit more then just a title to go by, and 2 hours is more like a movie. Might give one or two a try,see if they are any good, actually, think I might have seen ‘The Body’ at a friends house, read the Synopsis for that, sounds familiar. Thanks for the extra info!

DemandingFemale 1 points 4 years ago.

‘The Body’ was a short on another anthology movie from 2016. Patient Seven It starred Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy, GOT)

Eli (2019)
DemandingFemale 0 points 4 years ago.

It was all right. Nothing special, though. Has plenty of jump-scares and a twisty plot. It takes a while to get going, so stick with it. It’s rated for 15+, but I would say it’s probably suitable for a mature PG13 audience - few curse words and some mild bloody/graphic scenes - not really nightmare material.
3.5/5.
Thanks PW team :)
