JoMoCo's comments

Our Nixon (2013)
JoMoCo 0 points 3 years ago.

I saw Nixon in many circumstances, but never saw him laid bare, and broken, lost and hopeless.. as he was at hs wife’s funeral. It’s one of the saddest things have ever seen. He was a man that every one loved to hate.

The Pet (2006)
JoMoCo 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

It seeemed to me to be softcore porn, masquerading as social commentary. A few words at the end, as a sop to decency.

Temple Grandin (2010)
JoMoCo 1 points 3 years ago*.

An exceptional performance by Claire Danes makes this easy to watch. I belive that Temple Grandin would have approved. I have not heard her opinion on the film. “The movie was nominated for 15 Primetime Emmy Awards and won seven awards, including Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Claire Danes.[54] Grandin was on stage as the award was accepted and she spoke briefly to the audience. [Wikipedia] Watch it. It will NOT disappoint you.

The Out of Towners (1970)

Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis were surprisingly good in this 70's look at naive suburbanites. Better than the second movie...IMO.
Harry in Your Pocket (1973)

Billions (2016) S5 E6

The Band opened for Bob Dylan, before becoming a creative force of their own. According to AllMusic, “For roughly half-a-decade, from 1968 through 1975, the Band were one of the most popular and influential rock groups in the world.”[2] Their influence on several generations of musicians has been substantial: Roger Waters called their debut album, Music from Big Pink, the second “most influential record in the history of rock and roll,”[3] and music journalist Al Aronowitz called its “country soul….a sound never heard before.”[4]

Are you suggesting that the Minneapolis lawmakers are lying and do NOT intend to disband the police department? …Please do not incite arguments

JoMoCo -1 points 3 years ago.

The Minneapolis City Council on Sunday voted to disband its police department This a fact. It can be Googled. Or Binged Or checked in any way. They will have to replace it with another organization or group of individuals that will POLICE the area.

Billions (2016) S5 E6
JoMoCo -1 points 3 years ago.

Another excellent episode . Greed, ambition, ego, capitalism….all the things that made America great. The things that make life worth living, and provide motivation to do our best. The things that bring pleasure to others, and personal gratitude for ourselves. A super cast, and always a lesson in finances, and both the darker, and lighter sides of life. Fading out with a superb song by “The Band’…”When I paint my masterpiece”.

The Rachel Maddow Show (2008) S2020 E100
JoMoCo -2 points 3 years ago.

We KNOW what the White House response is to the Coronavirus. Nothing has changed. Isolate outbreaks…. traet the infected..and have the healthy return to work. That’s the way it has to be. People can not stay home until there is a vaccine. The media is no longer focused on the virus. They have more important things to do. Encourage rioting. As for the “PROTESTS”…They are not. They are RIOTS. The President is not responsible for that either. Why would he call out the military….unless the Governors of states REFUSE to protect their own people? In that case….he will. People need to make up their minds. Do they want the President running their lives…or local officials? They appear not to be happy…either way. One thing is certain…these riots are not the product of responsible people. The President put the Joint Chief of staff in charge of the riots. “ He hates to see the way it’s being handled in various states.” What else does Maddow think he would be in charge of…football season? It was a conference about the riots. Is she INTENTIONALLY obtuse, or just ignorant? She went on, and on. Maddow uses every show to attack the President. This one was no difference. That’s just sad. She has a bad case of TDS.

Ths was a great series back in 2004. It’s even more relevant now. It fits in with our current concerns. Foreshadows them. It’s got a great cast, with a very young Ellen Page. It starts fast, and the tension ratchets up every episode. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Rachel Maddow Show (2008) S2020 E97
JoMoCo -1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Rachel Maddow always looks like she is in pain…or disturbed. Maybe she’s feeling that way because she doesn’t understand what’s going on. “Flattening” the curve was not intended to stop the virus. It just kept it from peaking all at once, and overwhelming the medical system. It just stretched it out. You can’t get sick if you are isolated inside. But eventually, people have to come out. They have to work, to shop, to live. You can’t hide in your house until there is a vaccine. When people come out, the cases ARE going to rise. The best we can do is try to make sure those most at risk are doing everything to protect themselves. Then deal with the cases that come up. Maddow seems to want a cure….RIGHT NOW! So does everyone. But we aren’t blaming the President. HE didn’t create it. He has done everything he can to help mitigate it. But he understands what Maddow does not. EVENTUALLY…we will ALL be exposed to it. Not all will have symptoms. Some won’t even know it. Let’s treat this in a methodical way…and help those afflicted all that we can. Anyone reading this WILL at some point be exposed. Maddow doesn’t understand that. She thinks that with a different response it can be stopped. She is wrong.

JJ Villard's Fairy Tales (2020) S1 E1
JoMoCo 2 points 3 years ago.

I thought I would watch an episode just to see why the comments on it are so far apart. My mistake. A lot of scatological, and pus references. Foul language and aberrant ideas. Homocidal. Is this adult animation the result of Coronavirus isolation? Too much time alone with one’s unfiltered thoughts transfered to video? I ended up watching two episodes to see if it was going to get any better. Again, my mistake. This is for the emotionally arrested.

I imagine that this will be a much viewed series, as most will see it as relating to the economic, and cultural class differences in America. The writers will have a plethora of political issues to refer to. Will it be biased and push an agenda, or fair and neutral? Let’s watch and see!

Charly (1968)
JoMoCo 0 points 3 years ago.

A good book turned into a pretty good movie that shines a light on classes of people who believe that they are more intelligent than others. A photographic memory is not intelligence, though it may pass as such…intelligence lies in the capacity to do the best you can with what you have, and not feel sorry, or resent others for their inabilities, or abilities. It often involves taking seemingly unrelated ideas, and forming new, original ones. Intelligence is rare.

I noticed an oddity. Season three, episode one, about 30 minutes in, Arron Paul is waiting with another group of people for a job interview. In the back row, is a man seated with his hands together, wearing what APPEARS to be an anti-virus mask. But filming wrapped in October of 2019.

“New Line Cinema obtained the rights to produce The Many Saints of Newark alongside HBO Films. Warner Bros. Pictures was to initially release the film on September 25, 2020, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, its release date was rescheduled to March 12, 2021.” [ Wikipedia ] I’m hoping for good things. If the writing is as stellar as the casting, it will be spectacular. I have to believe that David Chase will not diminish his first incredible effort.

Brockmire (2017)
laurie621 -3 points 4 years ago*.

Hank Azaria is hilarious and this could have been one of the greats, remembered by all tv viewers. The story line has never been done before and it’s done well.. I thought.. oh boy this is going to be a fun fun fun watch and settled in to enjoy.. But… because it’s so incredibly raunchy, over the top and the writing focuses on that part of it, so it suffers too much to get into.. I so much prefer shows without all the foul language and raw, in your face sex..but have learned to get past all that in order to enjoy shows that have good actors and good story lines.. what else can one do if you love movies and tv shows? Anywho.. imo, they went too far with this one and it ruined it. It could have been a great watch.

JoMoCo 0 points 4 years ago.

I think it WILL be remembered as one of the great ones. No one person has ever done anything this well. Yeah…a little too raw sometimes..a few scenes…but I think that the raunch is part of the appeal. Vanilla you can get from anyone…anywhere…anytime. This is not for Grandma…unless she’s a little tired of being bored too.

I Still Believe (2020)

As you can see, this has an all star cast. It’s a story of losing the most important person to you, and what that does to your life and your mind. But in the end, Christians remember that they are never alone, and that we are to walk in faith with God…and that every day is a gift to be appreciated, and enjoyed.

Better Things (2016)
JoMoCo 1 points 4 years ago.

I was pleasently surpised by this series. It has more depth, and introspection than most shows that have examined the changing American family and it’s dynamics. Pamela Adlon is great, but so are her daughters. It’s the subtleness that I enjoy the most. The word, the glance, the silence after a scene, action,or statement. But the intent still being understood. VERY well written, and flying below the radar on most people’s minds. Underappreciated. I’m happy to see season four.

American Factory (2019)
JoMoCo -4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

“Early days of hope and optimism give way to setbacks as high-tech China clashes with working-class America.”…That seems condescending. If China used anything “high-tech”. they likely stole it from us.The point of this documentary seems obscure. Is it meant to show that the different cultures do not get along, or that China is taking over America? Many of the people working there do not seem happy. Many more quit, or were fired. And the story does not say why the GM plant was closed, and moved. An unsatisfactory story. Kind of anti-American.
