Vigil (2021) S1 E2
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

It’s honestly hard to get sold on this series when the goofy factor keep being multiplied. I mean we go from having a claustophobic civilian cop with PTSD on a nuke sub to there being a reactor incident? (the most over-used trope in modern sub movie history) The cover-up/conspiracy angle is getting played out as well, I mean seriously, if you wanted to cover something up like this why invite a friggin nosy civilian cop onboard? And if all that wasn’t enough we find out this detective left her husband to die in a car accident and then to show her appreciation, turned into a lesbian? Wow. Yeah this series is a hot mess.

Vigil (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I had a hard time taking this show seriously from the very beginning; I mean the ideal of a civilian homocide detective going onboard a military nuclear submarine on active patrol is three shades of ludicrous, but I suspended disbelief with the understanding it’s a plot tool. Unfortunately by the end of the first episode the ludicrous factor had multiplied by a factor of 10. Will keep going with fingers crossed however.

Forhøret (2019) S2 E8

Excellent Writing and Cast. Another all star performance. I really hope they do a Season 3 of this series because things are not completely “wrapped up” yet!

12 Mighty Orphans (2021)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

This movie was a real treat. Inspiring and wholesome with some great characters! Tater Salad (Ron White) as the Sheriff was HILARIOUS.

American Rust (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I’ll give it three episodes before deciding to toss it but judging from the pilot this is going to be another one of those poorly written soap operas masquerading as a “crime” series glossed over by a semi-decent cast. Like Mare of East Town it felt like a White Trash version of Dawson’s Creek right away; they even threw in another struggling/confused teenager story line (this one has a mullett) to draw in the 20 something Netflix crowd. How original.

American Rust (2021) S1 E1
Alien 3 points 2 years ago.

This reminds me of Mare of Easttown. Another sad commentary on the depressed and forgotten people of America.

TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago*.

God let’s hope not. That series was three shades of awful.

Belushi (2020)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Really well done Documentary. The last part was so damn sad. Aykroyd had written “Ghostbusters” to get Belushi back into comedy and he died before they could start, so the role went to his other good friend, Bill Murray.

Forhøret (2019) S2 E2
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The writers have done an excellent job in keeping the plot line alive and jumping in this one. One of the characteristics of any noir story is IMPLIED CORRUPTION and this one has it in spades. So far so Good. 👍

City of Lies (2021)
TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago*.

Being a crime history buff I was familiar with the LAPD Rampart scandal and man was my mind blown when all the dots started being connected between that case and the BIG murder. The writers (and Poole) did a fantastic job of presenting a very layered, detailed case of high level police corruption and the proceeding cover up. Depp did a bang-up job as usual.

Charlie's Country (2014)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

I watch this movie a few times a year as a reminder of what it means to be “True to Thyself”. It’s Heartfelt, funny, sad and most of all, Honest.

Jack Taylor (2010)

An excellent old school who-dunnit filmed in Beautiful Galway Ireland.

Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed (2021)
TX2Guns 7 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Man that was a Sad story. If there is a lesson to be learned here it is HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS or somebody else will. Bob’s son got cut out of his dad’s legacy and fortune by his own half brother and a couple of plagarizing sharks, simple as that.

The Fighter (2010)

Two of Wahlberg’s best sports movies are based on amazing true stories: Micky Ward the Boxer and Vince Papale the Football Player (Invincible). Bale and Wahlberg are amazing in this film as it chronicles the early career of “Irish” Micky Ward.

Johnny Mad Dog (2008)

Along with War Witch and Beast of No Nation this is one of the best movies about African Child Soldiers ever done. Realistic, Gritty and Unflinching.

Annika (2021) S1 E1
AmieWarren 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I don’t like that she plays such a wussy character. She’s always played such strong characters, large and in charge. This doesn’t suit her, and the asides to the camera are just weird. Not sure I’ll continue to watch it.

TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

Yeah I agree totally. This character was not written for her personality that she made so AWESOME in The Unforgotten.

Annika (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

FYI: This series is based on the BBC radio Scandi noir Annika Strandhed with the location changed from Norway to Scotland. OK so all of you out there who were fans of The Unforgotten like me, this series is not like it at all. The writing is more light comedy than police procedural, the characters are dull and boring, but by far the most distracting and CHEESY thing is the constant breaking of the 4th wall (Walker addressing the camera with eye contact and what feels like a stand up comedy improv routine.) The Death by Harpoon “Get your point across” joke pretty much sums up what you can expect. Think I will pass.

Rojst (2018) S2 E6
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This series has really surprised me. I almost gave up on it on Ep. 2 but decided to keep going and I am glad I did. The writing is very layered and well done and the overall gritty texture of the series could be called Polish Noir I suppose. The characters grow on you as do the themes of the series (Dealing with our past choices) I see this one going for another season or two definitely.

Deceit (2021)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago*.

Another 2021 UK crime series based on an actual case that could be filed under “meh”. Algar and Marsan were OK but the writing and overall pacing were borderline terrible. Another cautionary tale of “tunnel vision” police work.

Rojst (2018)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

For those of you like me that felt like Season 1 was incomplete, Season Two starts off with some hopeful clues. Once you get used to the writing of this series it grows on you.

The North Water (2021) S1 E5
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

Superb ending to a well written tale of corruption, murder, survival and maybe a measure of justice too. Peter Mullan is such a damn fine actor, really wish he could have had a bigger part in this one.

Rojst (2018) S1 E5
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

All in all I can’t say the series was fantastic. Stylistically it was really well done, but the writing and characters were just all over the place with not much to invest in. Let’s see if Season 2 improves.

Rojst (2018) S1 E1
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Really well done atmospheric Cold War slow and methodical murder mystery with a lot of political rabbit trails. You have to pay attention with this one, don’t say I did not warn you.

The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)
TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago.

I’m here because of Val Kilmer’s new Doc, Val. I thought I would re-visit some of his movies I have not seen in a while.

Although this film was a hot mess from beginning to end behind the scenes (Watch the Doc Lost Soul for the real scoop) I actually liked the story and the characters, a modern take on the HG Wells Classic.

Val (2021)

I felt like this was Val’s Swan song to his fans..it was sad but in a way it was also a celebration of a truly gifted actor and artist.

Q & A (1990)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

An oldie but goodie from Sidney Lumet, I must have watched this gritty corrupt cop caper over a dozen times over the years. It is Based on the book by the former Supreme Court Justice of Manhattan, Edwin Torres, who also wrote Carlito’s Way. Nolte and Assante are powerful in this one.

The North Water (2021) S1 E4
TX2Guns 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

As the story progresses it is very easy to see The author and screenwriters were heavily influenced by authors like Conrad and Melville, who liked to explore the human condition under awful circumstances. I have said before how I do not care much for Colin Farrell, but his portrayal of Henry Draxx has been bone chilling and has made this series a worthy watch for sure. This episode reminded me a lot of the movie The Grey with it’s overwhelming bleakness and amazing human endurance.

Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami (2021)
TX2Guns 4 points 2 years ago.

Really well done series. The writers did a good job of digging into a lot of the legit businesses, some of which are still open to this day that helped wash the billions in coke money that built modern Miami.

Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord (2021)
TX2Guns 3 points 2 years ago.

Great Modern Crime Documentary. None of this would have been possible without Ross Ulbricht and The Silk Road. The only snag was getting busted. 🥴️

Jerk (2019)

I love this series for the simple fact it shows that a person with disabilities can live a normal, happy, funny life too!

Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq (2007)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

One of the many legacies of James Gandolfini will be his devotion and love for the Wounded veterans. Great Documentary. I was lucky enough to meet him and shake his hand when he came to Walter Reed. An amazing human being.

El cártel de los Sapos: El origen (2021)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Based very loosely on the story of the Cali Cartel, this is Nowhere near the quality of writing or acting as Narcos but if you like Mexican/South American Drug Kingpin telenovella melodramas, you might like this one.

The Professionals (1966)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Bosch Season 6 Ep. 5 Brought me here.
One of the best cast for a western since the Wild Bunch.

The North Water (2021) S1 E3
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

A dark, sordid tale of corruption and murder that is coming along nicely. The acting is really top notch. Stephen Graham adds a touch of class and professionalism to any role he plays and although I typically don’t care for Colin Farrell, he is one menacing, evil MF in this one!

The Game (2014)
greenguy86 1 points 2 years ago.

It was a bit boring. For a TV show, its limitations were obvious. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a much better watch Not a TV show but much better watch if you’re into that era of espionage.

TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Tinker Tailor is the gold standard for cold war espionage series, of course. Nothing can beat that. If you want an excellent MODERN Espionage series check out all 5 seasons of the French made The Bureau. Superb writing with excellent characters and acting.

Sharp little cold war Brit series. I remember when it first came out so it’s worth watching.

Bosch (2015) S4 E9
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Rewatching all seasons of Bosch since there seems to be nothing else to watch.

Greatest line of Bosch up to this point “I didn’t buy this house for the view I bought it because there is only one way in and out.” Classic Bosch.

Bez vědomí (2019) S1 E1
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago.

Authentic Cold War series; they nailed the drab iron curtain feel. The writing and characters are a bit complex and combined with the jumping timeline this is definitely one you need to pay attention or you will get lost fast.

Bastards' Road (2020)

Baptiste (2019) S2 E1
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I am a huge Missing and Baptise fan but I got one problem with this episode: Either the Bulgarian Police are really friggin terribe at their jobs or Corrupt as hell but tell me how you conduct an all night missing person Grid search for a British Ambassadors family with a Helicopter and find nothing but Baptise can walk 100 yards from the hotel and find a body? Please bad writers, don’t ruin this series too!

Dr Death (2021) S1 E2
TX2Guns 4 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This series is quickly descending into Lifetime movie territory.
Every member of The TX Medical Board that let this quack continue to operate needed a prison sentence along with him. MORONS with Degrees.

Dr Death (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns 5 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Seems like a solid series. Good cast and writing. Would file it under ‘Medical Horror” versus “Medical Drama” Though. A close friends mother is a para-palegic today because of this a-hole. A Life sentence was way too good for him. He needed to be put down like the dog that he was. It always makes me laugh at what Hollyweird think Texan’s accents sounds like (Hint: It’s nothing like the old couple in his office!)

L.A. Confidential (1997)
