Thirteen Lives (2022)
grasshopper rex 3 points 1 year ago.

We’d be better off if Hollywood was writing our history books. Kids are being fed a whitewashed, more “patriotic” version of history now that glosses over or completely ignores any nasty bits of our past that portray us in a less than favorable light. It’s shocking that until recently, with shows like Watchmen and Lovecraft Country bringing it to light, how many Americans were unaware of the Tulsa massacre and the burning of Black Wall Street. The surest way to repeat the mistakes of the past is to have no knowledge of that past.

tardisrider 3 points 1 year ago.

the danger with the altering of history is that people will forget the lesson history teaches then how long untill another hitler or worse

Thirteen Lives (2022)
grasshopper rex 2 points 1 year ago.

We should contract Hollywood script writers for our history books too.

tardisrider 1 points 1 year ago.

given the way they’ve relabeled the trail of tears the great march and the history books being taught in schools right now say the native Americans chose to relocate to the oklohoma reservations i thought Hollywood writers WERE writing the history books……

my wife a chocktaw preferred people to use the English translation of her name. she said it was too painful to hear their attempts at pronouncing it in her native tongue and prevented the inevitable “what does it mean?”. besides little lightning was an apt description of her…iskitini hilohab 1969-1996

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Documentary (2022)
grasshopper rex 3 points 1 year ago*.

The forefathers of heavy metal. Greatly misunderstood and much maligned, but I can’t help but feel like they brought some of it on themselves with the supernatural imagery and soundbites that could easily be taken out of context and misconstrued.

My favorite band during my teenage years, they still hold a spot in my top 3. Their messages of social chaos and injustice, glorifying drug use while acknowledging the damage it can do, and a strong condemnation of war resonated deeply with the dysfunctional, rebellious, working class teen that I was. While Ozzy was the face of the band, it was Geezer’s lyrics and Iommi’s riffing that were the soul of early Sabbath. I never understood how they got little to no respect back in the day, but it is heartening to see the mad love they get now.

couldn’t have said it better, mate!

What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
tardisrider 1 points 1 year ago.

i cant believe what passes for comedy. terrible writing, so not funny and i wanted to like it so much as i’m a fan of Taika Waititi in our flag means death, but i couldn’t even get through ep1 of this junk. don’t get mad i know its wildly popular and lots think its funny this is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt and move on don’t be hateful.

Never did I think as a kid watching Star Trek (back in the late 60’s), that someday there would be so many different story lines. Yes, I was lucky to be a grade school kid in the 1960’s and watched every new episode (the new tv season started in September)each week until the end of the season (which was May). Then I got to watch it again in the summer months as a re-run. I never got tired of seeing ST and with so many new spin-offs now, I won’t get tired anytime soon of seeing one Star Trek episode after another! Live long and prosper.

tardisrider 2 points 1 year ago.

my dad was stationed overseas we didnt get them till late 70s on the bbc, but yes its good to see the st universe so full.
