Superb Foreign WW2 Resistance film. Combine this with Max Manus and you have a double feature True Story of valor and courage in the face of utter destruction. A+

The Spy (2019)

In the realm of Foreign WW2 Spy Thrillers, this one with Rolf Lassgard is not top shelf but it’s not a complete dog turd either. The script is based loosely on the life of Norwegian actress Sonja Wigert.

Born right here in my home state…WOO…PIG! I’m sure you’ve watched the “Shooter” and Levon is in this movie too and I almost didn’t recognize him at first.

TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago*.

Yep, seen them all. One of my favorites of his is another Tommy Lee Jones neo-western classic “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada”..the blind old man in the desert shack. I have been trying to get the last musical Doc he made before he passed, “Ain’t in it for my Health” which is a WONDERFUL tribute to the artist that was Levon Helm. Musician, Actor, Songwriter, Screenwriter. RIP Old Buddy!

The great Levon Helm As General John Bell Hood (CSA) was awesome.
I really miss Levon.

Dara of Jasenovac (2021)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

During the Course of WW2 the independent state of Croatia led by the fascist Ustase Government established a Chain of Concentration Camps known as Jasenovac in order to murder Serbs, Jews and Roma people in territory it controlled. It was the only such extermination camps run by Non-Germans in Europe. Jasenovac included camps exclusively for children. An important chapter of WW2 History few know about.

Days of Glory (2006)
TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago.

#5 on my fave Foreign WW2 Films. This is a story based on the TRUE STORY of a group of North African volunteers who fought with the Free French and French Resistance in North Africa against the Axis. What’s really amazing is this film ended up having political implications in changing the mind of then French President Chirac to unfreeze the pensions of North Africans who fought for France in WW2.

A Really well done German WW2 Series. The script and acting are top notch.

The Magician (2005)
BubbaPharm.com 1 points 2 years ago.

I watched the “The Magician” because I really like “Mr. Inbetween”. This is basically the original, low budget predecessor of that series.

I can’t say I liked it as much, mostly because I’m not a fan of handheld cameras and it lacked as many dark funny moments that temper the realistic violence.

“Mr. In Between” has better production quality and more darkly funny moments. Moreover, the violent side of Ray’s life is tempered with his adoring relationship with his daughter and other humanizing elements. He becomes a very engaging anti-hero much like the character Dexter.

So I’d give this 3/5 as entertaining. That may be lower for those disturbed by the nonchalant character of the violence, or higher, for those less sensitive to that. “Mr. Inbetween” is easily a 4/5 or greater for me and I’m looking forward to the next season.

Cheers!

Scott Ryan is one of the most talented writers and actors to come out of Australia. He wrote, Directed and Starred in this movie which he also financed with $3K of his own money, later with the help of Nash Edgerton he got some seed money and made a better version of it which ultimately helped him land the Mr. In-between Contract with FX which made him a multi-millionaire. Talent and hard work still work.

Songbird (2020)

Yeah you can tell Millennials wrote this script; half the movie is people face-timing…Because even in the bleak dystopian pandemic future Wi-fi and Cell Phone networks work fine, because you know, infrastructure like the power grid and 4G/5G towers would be stable? Laughable. But hey that’s the future of survival for this generation: don’t know how to start a fire with flint and steel? Just YouTube it!

The Woman in the Window (2021)
TX2Guns 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Overall a pretty clunky script for an A+ Cast but that seems to be the norm nowadays. Psychological crime suspense is a tough genre not to rely too heavily on established tropes that can border on being dishonest for the sake of a “twist” (is the main character crazy, being manipulated to look crazy or a combination of both?) the Director did a fair job however with the Hitchcock-esque foreshadowing and texture to smooth things over. The Garden claw through the cheek at the end was worth the price of admission! 👍

I really liked Condor. You then should also see https://www.primewire.ag/movie/162781-watch-three-days-of-the-condor the movie original. I recently rewatched Rubicon but I forgot this should have a second season but was cancelled. Very good show and when finally the characters and story were going…..cancelled

Yeah the Original was awesome but the series was laughable. I am sorry but seeing an overweight Brendan Frasier crack jokes is not a serious spy series.

This is one of those hot mess train wrecks of a documentary you cannot help but watch. Kind of like The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

Mare of Easttown (2021) S1 E4
TX2Guns -3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I have never seen a more confused “crime series” script. I don’t think the writers can make up their minds if they want this to be a small town crime story or a story about teenage lesbians It’s official, it’s a goner.

The Counterfeiters (2007)
TX2Guns 0 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

A real under the radar Foreign WW2 Gem. Based on the true story of Operation Bernhard in WW2, this is the tale of a jewish counterfeiter’s survival in Nazi Concentration Camps and the moral dilemma he faced of using his talents to stay alive while at the same time sabotaging the plans of his captors. Superb script and acting. Reminded me a lot of The Grey Zone, maybe not as dark but definitely just as moving. A+

Schatten der Mörder - Shadowplay (2020)
TX2Guns 0 points 3 years ago.

Sigh…Another poorly written post WW2 Historical drama series.
Generic, unimaginative, unrealistic writing with multiple sub-plots that only muddy the overall storyline and drag it out needlessly.
On a positive note the German actress Nina Hoss was excellent.

TX2Guns 4 points 3 years ago.

Actually the title “Il Cacciatore” is translated “The Hunter” in Italian.
What you are referring to in Italian Cuisine (Cacciatore) is translated “Hunter Style” so Chicken Cacciatore is Chicken prepared Hunter Style or in more modern culinary terms, Rustic style which could mean prepared with rabbit, onions, herbs, tomatoes and sometimes wine.

Il Cacciatore (2018)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

A really well written and well made Historically accurate and authentic ITALIAN Mafia series that shows both sides of the 1990’s Sicilian Mafia War: the Police/Prosecutors and the Corleone Mafia Figures themselves. I liked how they gave short Bio’s of the main Mafiosos, it makes for some really interesting reading if you google them! The writers also went to great lengths to show the COST of both the Mafia Life AND the life of the “Anti-Mafia” Police and Prosecutors. It was no picnic on either side, Gritty, Violent and Realistic, this series is right there with Gomorra and Maltese - Il Romanzo del Commissario. A++

Spy City (2020)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

This is a really poor excuse for a Cold War Spy series. The script is about as unoriginal as they come, the acting was wooden, the editing was AWFUL to the point of being confusing in parts. To top it all off it just wasn’t believable as a SPY series. Both the lead character and the setting just felt fake.

Killing Escobar (2021)

Il Cacciatore (2018) S1 E3
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago.

It took me a while to get warmed up to this series but by Ep 3 I was hooked. If you like mafia history (the real Sicilian mafia) this series is for you. The 90’s was a turbulent time in Sicily and Italy. The Mafia actually declared WAR on the State and then the State hit back. The writers do a great job of showing both sides of the fight and introducing the major mafia players (they give short bio’s on them). Looking forward to finishing Season 1 and then jumping into Season 2.

The Mosquito Coast (2021) S1 E1
ShadowWolf 1 points 3 years ago.

Wow! Poster child for “ride or die” with daddy issues lol! Interesting start, good actors I recognize…Not that, that means much lately with all the mediocre scripts and film producer/director’s going around. I feel for all of these great actors because they can only carry a movie so far! It takes a lot of trust that your skills will not only be highlighted but used to greatly increase the quality of a film and in no way be diminished by a production. It makes me wonder how you can one fail with all this talent at their disposal? Think of all the movies in the last couple months with A list actors and how awful they have been, think how bad those movies would have been without them. I have a whole new outlook on what it takes to make a good movie, actors play an important role but only a single part of the whole equation. I’m cutting actors way more slack until things in the industry start to bounce back…hopefully with the bigger, much more anticipated and long awaited blockbuster’s coming out this summer, they will set movies on a better path!🤞

TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

Yeah A Good movie or series starts and ends with a Good Script and there is a severe shortage of those right now. The recent Hollyweird trend is to try and dress up dog turd scripts with A List actors. It’s boring.

After One episode I am getting a vibe that is a mix between a Russian version of the X-Files and Castle Wolfenstein. High production Value for a Russian series. Den som dræber - Fanget af mørket (2019) S2 E8
TX2Guns -1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Season 2 suffered from the same problem most crime series suffer from these days: The script was long and drawn out with useless character development that eventually has no bearing on the story. For example, We watched scenes about Louise and her relationship with her boyfriend for several episodes that played no part in the investigation nor in the character arc. The biggest flaw though was The bad guy was not believable, thus his character arc was much too long and drawn out. Overall, a poor script compared to Season 1.
