V Wars (2019)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago.

I found this series to be incredibly tame and predictable, I’m sorry to say. I was really looking forward to something that had a bit of spiciness and gore, no such luck. It is not a bad series, it’s just the Brady Bunch of horror, complete with a Rob Lowe look-alike. It is a passable time filler for me, nothing more.

Kings of Pain (2019)
magically_delicious 2 points 4 years ago*.

What a fun and amazing series this is. However, it’s in no way original. Coyote Peterson had a web only series for Discovery Channel entitled “Brave Wilderness” which was based on Justin Orvel Schmid’s sting pain index (and book Insect Defenses: Adaptive Mechanisms and Strategies of Prey and Predators). I love seeing this subject matter again. Check out Youtube for Coyote Peterson videos on the same subject!

The War of the Worlds (2019) S1 E3

This BBC production is one of the most insulting and trite ever to emerge from the pipeline. Avoid this at all costs.

A Very Yorkshire Brothel (2019)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago.

A depressing look at the British prostitution industry. I have to say, they quote red heads being natural and big girls being rare, when it’s obvious that under size 18 is rare (here) and red is so vibrant it’s about as natural as my pink, turquoise and purple hair. I’ve no issue with the legalisation of prostitution. It’s something people do anyways, and health checks and certificates of standard would be beneficial. This is small beer. I’m just (sorry to all those that are going to complain) gob smacked at how ALL the women are LARGE. Like saying you’ve got EE breasts, but you’re a size 24 is just… well… gosh… desperate. Ok. Live and let live.

Excalibur (1981)
magically_delicious 2 points 4 years ago.

A nostalgic look at the way we saw (cinematically) dragons, wizards, lords, ladies, and “common folk” of this fantasy directed “King Arthur” period in “history” from the early 1980’s. This film is of particular interest to pre-Lord of the Rings fans and those in love with the idea of dragons and wizards. Truly, a cinematic example of excellence for the time period and a favourite for all those longing for virtue and innocence.

The War of the Worlds (2019) S1 E2
magically_delicious 0 points 4 years ago.

This mini series started out as being authentic and true to the time period from which the original namesake was written. However, it quickly digressed into a nonsensical, flashback and disjointed melodramatic jumble. It was difficult to connect to any of the characters and hold them in any esteem but apathy as no relationship was established primarily due to the poor adaptation and direction of the actors. The aliens were poorly represented and thus this production is one of the worst that the BBC has ever promoted.

War of the Worlds (2019) S1 E8
magically_delicious 5 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This is quite literally the worst and most ridiculous “ending” they ever could have written. Why would you KILL a whole planet because you need help?? And WHY would anyone, “alien” or not, have any sympathy for a being that would do that? How the heck did this intergalactic paraplegic get around? Ridiculous and insulting are the only way to describe this completely lazy ending.

Seven Worlds, One Planet (2019)
magically_delicious 3 points 4 years ago*.

BBC One/David Attenborough never disappoint in terms of excellence in visual and factual standards. David Attenborough’s narration adds to the excellence, as does the dedication of the teams that work “alongside” David and immerse themselves in literally months of rigorous work to capture the extraordinary animal life on this planet. This series is especially poignant as David and his teams have captured not just the beauty, but the tragedy, of life on this planet and how humans are now pushing other animals to the brink of extinction by the dozens, some of which have only been discovered as a result of human destruction of once wild areas. The adaptations that other animals must face in order to survive is nearly heroic. Satellite image data of the expansion of civilisation encroaching on vital wild areas (over the last several decades) is bone chilling. This series is highly recommended, and 100% vital viewing.

Very nice review, thank you, but the killar was actually caught on April 24, 2018. His name is Joseph James DeAngelo.

Excellent and helpful info, thanks! I’ll have to read up on it. You’d think they would’ve amended their information to reflect that, wouldn’t you?

Just like they hypothesized, he served in the military (Navy) and was a police officer. Watch out for those police officers!

Easter Island cannibalism and human meat markets, Mayan starvation and the brutal death of 18 Rabbit, Nostradamus; this is a brilliant, informative and entertaining episode with intriguing discoveries and information.

The Golden State Killer: It's Not Over (2018)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago.

For “true crime” fans, this limited series is well organised and interesting. The narration isn’t overdone(or more importantly, obnoxious), and the evidence/survivor/witness accounts are interspersed at a satisfactory levels. I enjoyed the first 3 episodes much more than the closing episode, as I felt some of the conclusions to be more sensationalist than factual and the episode seemed to wane because of it. This rapist/murderer will probably never be caught, but the series is one of the more watchable out there.

Freaks (2019)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

An engaging Sci-fi supernatural thriller that is a combination of “Firestarter” with mutants, tinged with suggestions of “Brightburn”. Interestingly, in order to conceal the significant plot holes, this film is stylised to appear low budget, despite utilising well known actors like Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern. It’s definitely a lot of fun and quite engaging. Freaks is worth staying with through its slowish start, as the overall entertainment factor is satisfying.

You Were Never Really Here (2017)
magically_delicious 4 points 4 years ago*.

I first saw this when it premiered. I have been a “fan” of Joaquin Phoenix since “Signs”, “Her”, “Gladiator”, and before… he is an accomplished actor who designs his own career by playing characters, rather than becoming one in real life. He can change his physical form, mannerisms and even the way his eyes look either alert and engaged with life, or completely disenfranchised with life and in a world of his own. This film is one of his best; it is captivating, disheartening, confusing, brutal and lovely.

Servant (2019) S1 E3
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Hmmmm. Never mind a “Rosemary’s Baby” vibe, how about a “Damien” vibe? What I don’t get is why is this father not grateful for the son that has been brought back? Thus far, nothing sinister from the babe. Wait and see, I suppose. Although a wee bit tedious, I am enjoying having this series.

Servant (2019) S1 E1
magically_delicious 3 points 4 years ago.

At first I was unsure about this episode and the seemingly whingy mother, but as I watched, I became more intrigued at where it’s going, and who the characters are. The single camera angles are unsettling, and it has a very “Rosemary’s Baby” feel going on overall. This is more of a suspenseful-Thriller, than a high octane Thriller, definitely.

Green Room (2016)
magically_delicious 5 points 4 years ago.

I love this film and revisit it every year since it was made. It’s a remarkably tense, violent, yet nearly apathetic look at man’s inhumanity to man and all living creatures. Patrick Stewart, Imogen Poots, and (not at all lastly) Anton Yelchin are superb and show the craft for which all actors should be known for; the conveyance of raw emotion.

Hysteria (2011)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago.

A thoroughly enjoyable film due to the acting and subject matter (dealt with in an amusing way) on the so called origins of the female vibrator, and hence, the diagnosis of hysteria in women that in actuality meant they were leading less than fulfilling sex lives. From start to finish it’s quirky, irreverent, and only semi serious. An incredibly enjoyable, if not a wee bit *uncomfortable” watch. Highly recommended.

The Walking Dead (2010) S10 E8
magically_delicious 0 points 4 years ago.

This week I read that TWD will end with season 12… wtf? They are barely making a season 10. This season has been so crap it feels like an hour is an eternity of melodrama. Ugh, bring back the dead!

Ready or Not (2019)
magically_delicious 2 points 4 years ago.

A super fun slash em up-thriller with a twist. Nothing serious or groundbreaking, just an easy, fun watch.

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago*.

Rambo: Last Blood is a vengence thriller staring John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone). Whilst in the Rambo universe, it is nothing like “First Blood”, in fact, the meaning of first blood, is completely lost on this film. It has some spectacular gore. The dialogue is predictable, and even without Spanish subtitles, you can guess what is happening. There are several instances that the Rambo from First Blood would never have been in, and therefore, the story has somewhat lost it’s momentum and impetus overall. However, Last Blood is entertaining. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I also wouldn’t say don’t watch it. First Blood is an amazing piece of cinema that will never be replicated with the likes of a film that uses music to tell the viewer how to feel.

Terms of Endearment (1983)
magically_delicious 1 points 4 years ago.

This film is now 36 years old, and still evokes every emotion from joy to anger to love and hate… It’s beautifully filmed, acted and directed. Definitely a film I’d recommend seeing at least once. It’s the portrayal of real life, warts and all.

The Tripods (1984)

i dont think its the same story .. sure its got aliens in tripod walking machines, but this is based on a series of books by christopher priest

The trilogy is by John Christopher. I don’t think they got to season 3 (or book 3) with this series though.

I feel so sorry for you XD It IS love story. You would probably have a better time if you knew and/or could avoid it if you don’t like romance.

magically_delicious 2 points 5 years ago*.

To be honest, I stayed with it, and by the 6th episode I got what I wanted and love the series. I am fair minded I kept going, and it paid off. It doesn’t always, but it did this time. I don’t avoid romance, I just don’t predominately care to watch romance. The first episodes were not balanced, to me. I highly recommend this series and for anyone else who wonders if it gets better, it does.

The Purge (2018) S1 E5
magically_delicious 1 points 5 years ago.

After 5 episodes I feel absolutely no connection to any of the main characters. I actually don’t care what happens to them. At the first episode I was hoping they would bring something new to the table, and they sort of did, but they have failed to make me care about the characters. I probably won’t watch another episode. Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

The first one was so much better than this one. It’s a pity. They should’ve kept it simple, but they’ve overcomplicated and burdened this film with a lot of meaningless and boring love scenes. Thank you for the links uplinkers and uploaders.

Unspeakable Crime: The Killing of Jessica Chambers (2018) S1 E3
magically_delicious 1 points 5 years ago.

The evidence in this case is absolutely non-existent. This murder looks like they just need to blame someone and the so they picked Qunitin. The whole story is convoluted and filled with racism and prejudice from every side. What a tragic story. Thank you for sharing the links, uplinkers.

Fear the Walking Dead (2015) S4 E16

I am sad to say I found this episode to be the worst of any episode in this series. For me, it was frustrating, incongruent and there were too many continuity errors to count. That said, I am a fan of this series, and I will continue to watch. I simply found this episode to be lazy writing, sadly. Thanks a million for the uplinks. :)

Kidding (2018)

This is an amazing black comedy that fits Jim Carrey to a T. It’s innovative, irreverent, touching, and thought provoking. Jim Carrey at his best with a supportive cast that compliments the creative genius of this series at every turn. I’ve watched 4 episodes and truly recommend it for any Jim Carrey fan.

Unspeakable Crime: The Killing of Jessica Chambers (2018) S1 E2

Interesting series in that it’s so convoluted and there are so many sub-agendas that they will never find who actually did this… though I would like to see how it concludes with the last episode. This is actually episode 3. Thank you for the links, uplinkers and uploaders.

This is a very well presented series. Racism and false allegations based on gender and ethnic group seem to be the flavour of this attempt at conviction of a horrific crime. This is actually episodes 1 & 2 combined. Thanks you for the uplinks.

The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers (2018)
magically_delicious 1 points 5 years ago.

In my opinion, the most interesting this about this series is the cover art and the first 5-10 minutes of the show. It is a poorly executed show full of yawn material. The investigators themselves don’t seem very interested in the case and it goes spirals from there. Thanks a million for the uplinks, uplinkers and uploaders.

This is the 5th out of 6 episodes for this disappearance/crime. I’m sorry to say, this series is just repetitive nonsense. The show has been repeating hearsay from the very first episode and then having random calls with people who say that have information, but are like listening to someone give a report on cardboard boxes from the inside of tin can. I’m really grateful to have this episode here, so I thank the uplinkers and uploaders for sharing.

Hotel Artemis (2018)
magically_delicious 3 points 5 years ago.

I enjoyed this film, though I went in with a head semi-filled with the criticisms others had offered from various sources. I first need to “say” that I love Jodie Foster. She is an accomplished actor who can overcome negative roles and pull films up to a higher standard (for instance Elysium, which I felt was a very predictable film). This film is a wee bit “arty” and has a small element of a “grind house” feel to it, for me. I enjoyed the acting all the way round and all the characters. This was a “fun” film to me and left me feeling satisfied. I felt that there are still some questions at the end, but overall for me, the positive of being entertained by the film on the whole, out weighed the negative. I feel anyone who likes Jodie Foster, or any of the aforementioned elements, will enjoy this film. Thanks a million uplinkers for sharing and having it here! :)

I Think We're Alone Now (2018)

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I am delighted to see Peter Dinklage gathering more roles and showing how talented he is. Hmmmm, I disagree with Matt this time. I don’t believe that this wolf-dog should be with them. They are giving her good care; I wish he’d have offered to council them on how to do it properly with his experience rather than making it about a rescue. I’ve known people who have had these animals and provided everything they have at the sanctuary (rescue). It is possible. Thank you uplinkers for sharing the links.
