“unfettered free speech” is an American tradition and part of our culture. Whether you agree with “Q” stuff or not, there’s fascism creeping in from all sides. When will people learn that the “answer” isn’t censorship?

snazzydetritus 5 points 3 years ago.

Neither is conspiracy theory the “answer”.

This is what a nation in decline looks like.

snazzydetritus 5 points 3 years ago.

And the fact that this nation is so incredibly young, yet is already in a freefall, speaks to the utter weaknesses of its government and its people’s priorities. Winter is coming.

Manny & Lo (1996)
snazzydetritus 4 points 3 years ago.

This movie accomplished something I formerly thought impossible: it manages to be non-nauseatingly sweet AND smartly cynical at once. The two lead actresses, Aleksa Palladino (Boardwalk Empire) and an itty-bitty Scarlett Johansson, are funny and tough, and Mary Kay Place, as always, adds greatness. The script and direction are wonderful. If you like this, also check out “Lawn Dogs” https://www.primewire.ag/movie/258092-watch-lawn-dogs

Well, that’s the problem with Hollywood. All the righteous characters are 99% of the times played by the most disgusting degenerates the world has ever known. The odd thing is that they do a good job at playing those characters though. Characters which are the complete opposite of what they are in real life themselves. However, the story about the Inquisition, especially the Spanish Inquisition is unfortunately very true. The Inquisition was one of the greatest atrocities ever committed in human history and since it was committed in the name of God it was the most disgusting of them all. I know Hell exists because such a place MUST exist for the people who committed such atrocities. And there are people today, quite a lot of them actually, who STILL commit similar atrocities.

snazzydetritus 4 points 3 years ago*.

I love history , and have seen many actually good films about the times of the Inquisition, but this movie is crap, and the actors were laughable (this film was written by Kirk and her eventual cohort and fiance/dupe, Neil Marshall) and seems like more of a pulpy comic book than any reference to history. Yes, you are correct about the utter debauched evil of the people who committed the atrocities of the Inquisition…unfortunately since I don’t believe in hell or heaven, it makes those atrocities even more evil and senseless.

ezl88 1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s bad, but it certainly isn’t good. The premise seems neat initially until you realize the entire purpose of the show is a glorified commercial for the next MCU movie. I love comics and enjoy the MCU movies, but couldn’t recommend WandaVision to anyone. As far as fan theories go, they’re more or less all BS. The story is adapted from the House of M comic arc, so it’s nothing new. Definitely recommend checking out that comic arc if you end up liking WandaVision.

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

I haven’t been able to watch any of the MCU movies all the way through, don’t read the comics, but did research just enough backstory, and I enjoyed Wandavision. It was an interesting and curiously-done psychological character study, and that’s something I find interesting (that’s why I am into so-called “underground” comics such as Dan Clowes, the Gomez brothers, Julia Wertz, etc. rather than these action-narrative-driven DC and Marvel comics).

Charlotte Kirk is the archetype of the desperate Hollywood wannabe-actress who slept her way through a slew of studio heads and then sued the men she slept with for not giving her the roles and opportunities she felt they owed her. Look her up.

Dogfight (1991)

An outstanding independent film of the ‘90s by a talented director which features Lili Taylor and River Phoenix when they were both fresh-faced ingenues. The script, acting and direction come together beautifully.

This is a much watch for anyone who believed the lies told by the ATF and FBI about the events of the 51 day standoff and the breach of the compound, resulting in the deaths of innocent children at their hands.

snazzydetritus 6 points 3 years ago.

It is the best doc on the event that I’ve seen. To sit and watch the ATF/FBI lie and lie and lie in the hearings, and then watch the footage that directly refutes all their lies as well as implicates them in the destruction of all those lives at Mt. Carmel, is chilling and enraging.

Skins (2007)
DoobieKeebler 4 points 3 years ago.

This show was amazing back in the day. One of the 1st major shows for some household names now. It also was probably the best instance Ive ever seen of when a show rotates in entirely new casts & stories (with “Skins,” it was after 2 seasons each).
Highly recommended. If you are in your High School to College age range, or simply remember crazy stuff from when you were, this show is solid. Plus it runs the gambit, from drama to comedy to thriller to even some elements of the horror genre.
5/5 Stars

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago.

I concur, I’ve seen every season at least 3 times, esp. the first two generations. It gets a bit soap opera-esque occasionally, but the writing is good, the twists are fantastic, and the music is outstanding. It’s a guaranteed binge-watching trip.

What about the second 14-month investigation by the New York State Department of Social Services that concluded “No credible evidence was found that [Dylan Farrow] has been abused or maltreated?”

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago.

I don’t think that could possibly have been an impartial investigation either. And investigations are botched constantly …not to mention the fact that if you check statistics, you will find that the system that is supposed to help, rescue and protect the children, fails them constantly. It’s been said that a child more or less has to die for the system to take any action. Why are you vehemently defending the schmuck, anyway? Are you a big fan?

Allen v. Farrow (2021)
duuuuuuuuuude 3 points 3 years ago.

Two separate investigations said he didn’t abuse her.

It’s really strange that you chose to defend an abusive mentally ill woman who not only married a man 30 years older than her, and not only got pregnant by a married man before she stole him away from his wife, but also adopted 15 children. Let that sink in… 15 children. What kind of person adopts 15 children… and then abuses them?

The fact is that it was investigated thoroughly for 6 months by the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of the Yale/New Haven Hospital and not did they conclude “Dylan was not abused by Mr. Allen,” they also concluded that Dylan’s testimony had a “rehearsed quality” and that they were “likely coached or influenced by her mother.”

snazzydetritus 5 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

@duuuuuuuuuude I’m sure that clinic wasn’t in any way biased by the fact that they were investigating a rich, powerful, influential, well-loved celebrity. And just because her testimony was somewhat rehearsed (and, yeah, it probably was a bit influenced by Mia) doesn’t mean inappropriate things didn’t happen. Also, there’s so much incontrovertible evidence for his inappropriateness: his earlier relationship and grooming behavior with the Englehardt girl; his obsession with romantic relationships between underage females and men old enough to be their (old) fathers; the eyewitness testimony of most of the other children in the family and family friends….et al…

So they are taking the credit for almost killing the kid and themselves, when all they had to do was nothing and wait for the battery to die. All three would be dead if the Tesla wasn’t apparently magical and can go from a hundred kph or so to zero in ten meters on a damp road. There was absolutely no point in dressing the mother up as the kid, they thought it was him for literally a minute, maybe if the house didn’t take forever to blow up. Also don’t close your eyes when swinging a damn axe. This whole episode was a giant Tesla commercial.

snazzydetritus 0 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Heh, yeah, they made sure to demonstrate the features: “…and, look! if you leave it on autopilot, it has a safety stop component!” But as far as letting the battery run out, they mentioned that that wasn’t an option because they were rapidity approaching a residential area, which would’ve put the kid and the residents in danger. I must agree that so many aspects/events in this show are just laughably ridiculous. But finish I must!

A Teacher (2020)

I totally agree (which was in my reply) but the movie did a terrible job illustrating the relationship they had. It wasn’t a prey-predator situation but two consenting adults overall who both had feelings for each other after the fact but couldn’t be together bc of her probation. In real life, they would have still seen each other despite her probation and had a child by then.

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

I’m not talking about the morality of the situation. I was speaking strictly of the way the law views it.

A Teacher (2020)
the2nd 3 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I would have to somewhat agree with you. The boy in THIS film in a m2f relationship wouldn’t have been damaged psychologically as hetero males use sex (esp with a “hot teacher”) as a trophy. If this would have been a m2m relationship then I could see some issues as the younger may have identity issues still. The ending was terrible. They both were consenting individuals who pursued each other. At age 17, he was legal by law. The only thing legally she did wrong was she was a teacher and the law sees that as being persuasive to young minds. A 17 yr old can drive and be accountable for manslaughter but can’t decide who to fck, right?? He was 2 months away or so from being legally able to vote, smoke, and held liable in contracts.

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

It’s not because of age issues that the law sees the situation as a problem , it’s the fact that she’s a teacher , and the law sees that situation as an adult using their position of power and influence over a person under 18 in their care as exploitation regardless of consent. Very simply, teachers can’t legally bang students.
