Mare of Easttown (2021) S1 E3
TX2Guns -2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

A slight improvement over the last two episodes but not by much. You have to hand it to Ingelsby, as a writer he stays true and consistent to the theme that all men are lazy, dumb, goofy or drunk. Add to this Mare is suddenly a super sleuth able to find bullet ricochets in the dark and also commit multiple felonies without going to jail? Yeah not buying it. Good block of time got wasted on things not relevant to the story for the sake of trying to stay culturally relevant. Script writers these days seem to think inclusivity has to be part of every story regardless of genre when at the end of the day most of the time it adds nothing to the story besides making you tune in for 7 episodes when it could have been done in 5. Not looking promising to be honest.

Line of Duty (2012) S6 E7

I feel like a kid on the 4th of July that just lit the big finale rocket expecting an amazing display of color and majesty and instead gets rewarded with a popcorn fart. Definitely not the ending that this great series deserved IMO. I guess we will have to be satisfied with a spin-off, but Please Mr. Mercurio, do not let it suck!

Angry Inuk (2017)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago.

Really beautiful, eye opening Documentary about the self-sufficient hunting lifestyle of the Inuit people. It’s fascinating to watch them use every part of the Seal’s body (not just the skin) to sustain themselves, just like their ancestors did.

Back to 1942 (2012)

A poignant drama of human suffering and Survival during Wartime. The Chinese people suffered terribly at the hands of the Japanese and their own corrupt Govt. during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. Adrien Brody and Tim Robbins make an appearance in this poignant human drama.

I would also highly recommend City of Life and Death about the Rape of Nanking (or Nanjing) in 1937.

Den som dræber - Fanget af mørket (2019) S2 E3
TX2Guns 0 points 3 years ago.

After the first episode I was not convinced Season 2 was going to be on par with Season 1 in terms of script but the writers are playing the LONG game in Season 2, and after Episode 3, after a slow burn and some nice character development, you will be hooked for the long haul. So many times in nordic noir the REASON WHY the killer is killing is often neglected for the WHODUNNIT factor. Not the case with this series.

Hamarinn (2009)
TX2Guns 0 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Not the greatest example of Nordic/Icelandic Noir IMO. The plot revolves around an eco-conspiracy/greed thing with a touch of local folklore to try and spice things up to no avail. The Script was just silly in parts. They did two seasons of this one and Season 2 showed no improvement. The Lava Field, Trapped and one of my favorites, Case are much better examples of what Iceland has to offer than this.

Tropic Thunder: Rain of Madness (2009)

What a wonderful way with words you have.

TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago*.

More to the point what a wonderful way with words the script writer had! Funny Movie. Must have watched it a 100 times while deployed.

My Way (2011)

Based on the amazing true story of Jun-Shik, this has always been in my Top 10 Best Foreign WW2 Movies List.

Very few movies made about the Chinese Civil War and this one was awesome.

Viewpoint (2021) S1 E5
shipwreckglue 2 points 3 years ago.

No last link for this show. it’s been dropped from ITV.
Noel Clarke has been a perv and has been dropped from all shows.

TX2Guns 3 points 3 years ago*.

That’s just wonderful…now we have to wait for another network to buy the Show to finish the damn series after investing 4 hours? Thanks ITV, you and BBC should start a club called Networks that Suck.👎

Without Remorse (2021)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago*.

Utter garbage. Tom Clancy would roll over in his grave and vomit at this PC POS. Not sure what Taylor Sheridan was trying to do but this was nowhere near the quality of script he is known for. I hear Jack Ryan Season 3 is on tap for early 2022 so maybe it will not suck (Knock on wood).

Red Riding (2009)
Gidseltagningen (2017)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago.

Really well done Danish Crime Thriller. Season 1 was head and shoulders above Season 2 in terms of originality of script and character development but both Seasons are worth a watch regardless.

Southcliffe (2013)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago.

After watching Sean Harris in The King I went back and watched some of his older series and movies. This one stuck out to me the most. Excellent script and acting.

Line of Duty (2012) S6 E6

The more I watch Carmichael the more I just want to slap the taste out of her mouth.

“Jesus Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey” is now going to be added to my personal library of creative exclamations. Thank you DCS Hastings! 👍

Antidisturbios (2020)
Die Protokollantin (2018) S1 E3

Really well done layered writing combined with methodical character development equal a very ENGAGING series! Peter Kurth (from Babylon Berlin) does a fantastic job!

Oh Yes, how could I forget, a masterpiece! One thing about that movie, once you see it, you will not be able to forget it, EVER.

The Last Frontier (2020)

Not Bad for a Russian WW2 Movie. Amazing story.
If you enjoy flicks like this I recommend Stalingrad (1993) Fortress of War (2010) The Dawns Here are Quiet (2015) and The Battle for Sevestopol (2015) for starters.

The Sicilian Clan (1969)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

A True Classic! Definitely in the Top 10 of Best French Crime Cinema. Don’t forget Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle), Le Samourai, A Cop and Rififi for starters…

Die Protokollantin (2018)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

Tight little German Crime Drama Series.
Many Thanks Linkers. This site would not be here without you guys!

The Gathering Storm (2002)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago*.

In the pantheon of Churchill actors and movies, this one with Albert Finney is hard to beat. Gary Oldman and Brendan Gleeson were not bad (Darkest Hour and Into the Storm) Michael Gambon in Churchill’s Secret was rather dry and flat, while John Lithgow in the Crown did a surprisingly good job. Two that don’t get much attention are Timothy Spall in The King’s Speech, (I thought his diction was spot on) and Ian Mune in Ike: Countdown to D-Day. His banter with Bernard Montgomery was hilarious.

Godfather of Harlem (2019) S1 E7
TX2Guns -1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

When you realize this series is 90% BS as far as historical accuracy regarding the criminal underworld of the 60’s in New York, it is really entertaining. I mean who doesn’t like a good fantasy?

County Lines (2019)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago.

Gritty, Raw and Real. There are no happy endings in movies like this for a reason. Keep your kids close and raise them right.

Mare of Easttown (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns -3 points 3 years ago.

Wow, this is a HBO crime series? Felt more like a chick flick/teenage ABC soap opera to me. So much for those True Detective comparisons. Still, Ingelsby is a decent writer, so let’s see what happens.

Line of Duty (2012) S6 E5
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Wow. What a whirlwind whopper of an episode! Almost fell out of my chair when DCS Carmichael walked in! In these six seasons, Mercurio has created one of the finest, if not BEST, police procedural SAGA’s on TV.

Godfather of Harlem (2019)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

See, that’s the problem with these series, with the long hiatus between Seasons I have now forgotten 80% of Season 1 and have to go back and re-watch! Oh well, there are worse things in life…Season 2 looks to be a good’un.

The Courier (2021)
PonderThis 7 points 3 years ago*.

This movie brought back some childhood memories…..I was a young child of the 1960’s and I still remember the drills we had to do at school. We did what was called “duck and cover”. When the superintendent announced the drill, we would quickly get under our desks and cover our eyes. As if this would save us from a nuclear bomb! An air force base was about a 45 minute drive from my hometown. We often heard the sonic booms as jets flew over which of course scared the _out of us. We just knew it had to be the Russian bombers and after that first sonic boom, our teacher told us the jets were from the air base. Our parents never told us how close the US came to being nuked. It was years later in a US history class I learned how everyone was on pins and needles for days.

I was born in the early 70’s and as a kid in the early 80’s I remember watching movies like the “The Day After” and being scared s*itless.😲

Nobody (2021)

Predictable action flick but an enjoyable watch. Props to Odenkirk for the training he did for this one, not bad for a dude pushing 60.
I did a double take on Michael Ironside. My God did he eat the catering van? I don’t think you can handle another COVID lockdown Mike. 😅

What a wonderful surprise! And what better way to start the weekend! Thank you for uploading the first episode! Can’t wait until the next episode. I so love period dramas and I’ve always had a fascination with WWII.

On a side note, Sofia Helin is such a great actress. I almost did not recognize her without her blonde hair from The Bridge however!

Decent little Swedish Crime flick starring Joel Kinnamen, before his across the pond stardom and Matias Varela (Arne Dahl) and Dragomir Mrsic (Alex). Word is Netflix is coming out with a series by the same name (Snabba Cash) 4/7/21.

Wow what a tangled web Mr. Mercurio is weaving with this season!

Really well done A-List Scandi Noir. The writing was second to none. Amazing character development and layered plot with a really unique intensity added with the 24 minute episodes. The Cast was like the Pro Bowl of Nordic Noir…Really well done!

Love Liza (2003)

Bill Burr suggested this movie on his podcast and if you are a fan of the late, great Seymour Hoffman, check it out. A quirky sad ride on the rollercoaster of life.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
TX2Guns 3 points 3 years ago.

I grew up with the old school Japanese Godzilla movies at the drive-in and then when the Original King Kong came out in 1976 with Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lang? Forget about it!! Now it’s all CGI and Green Screen and but I still enjoyed this one for what it was: A Titan Battle Royale (as did my kids!)

Unforgotten (2015) S4 E6
TX2Guns 0 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

What a powerful ending to a really well written season! Wow.
I am glad it got renewed for a Season 5 so Sonny can go out there and make Cass proud. I always liked the fact the writers put as much emphasis on Sonny’s life as they did Cass, now we know why.

Tina (2021)

Tina Turner is tough as shoe leather!
A strong inspiration for the whine-bag victimhood cancel culture for sure.

And the plot thickens..
The layered writing in this series is one of the reasons it is so DAMN good.
I was wondering when we get our first dose of Hastings hilarious old school Brit sayings this Season (“Going like the Clappers!”) 👍😄

City on a Hill (2019)
TX2Guns -2 points 3 years ago*.

If you know Boston Crime History you will quickly recognize this series is a muddled amalgamation of several Boston crime events and criminal and law enforcement personalities. Really weak script overall. They should have concentrated more on the street side instead of trying to imitate the Wire and be all layered. Simple is best with crime series otherwise you get fake crap like this.

The Father (2021)
TX2Guns 5 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I found this a very powerful and moving adaptation of Florian Zeller’s play.

Unlike most films about dementia which are almost always told from the caregiver’s perspective, this one places the audience in the skin of the person suffering with the disease.

For the first hour of the movie I found myself confused and questioning everything that was happening. It felt like I was trapped in some kind of strange time loop. I was unsure of everything and everybody. It was weird and scary and not something I enjoyed feeling to be honest.

So at the end of the movie I felt nothing but genuine compassion for both Dad (Hopkins) and Anne (Colman) which is exactly the point that Zeller intended I think.

This movie definitely brings a fresh perspective to the old saying “Don’t judge somebody until you have walked a mile in their shoes.” Yeah, for sure!

John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise (2021)
TX2Guns 5 points 3 years ago*.

If you like Mindhunter, check this series out. FBI agent Robert Ressler was involved in the main interview. A very well put together Documentary where you might actually learn a thing or two you did not know before about this bizarre case.
