The son, Adam is such a f*cking imbecile I’m starting to hope that he gets caught just so I can enjoy watching what Jimmy does to him. The Judge has made a few bloopers as well but just because he had to cover up the idiot Adam’s tracks. Gina is going to have a field day with Adam!!

I’m with you …sick of rich white boys/men getting away with what they’re guilty of on tv/film and in reality.

Willow (1988)
somniloquist 2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Willow passes the Bechdel test. Quite well, actually.
(In case you’re unfamiliar, the test is quite simple. Three criteria. First, there must be two female characters with names. Second, these two must speak to each other. Third, they must speak to each other about something other than a man. Sound easy? It’s not. Apparently! A shocking number of films fail spectacularly at the Bechdel test.)
But here’s my problem. It’s Sorsha. You wouldn’t think it would be Sorsha, but it’s Sorsha. Hear me out. Sorsha is the daughter of the evil Queen Bavmorda. Sorsha is a warrior, an excellent fighter. She dresses in the armor of a man and is not discovered by other characters to be female until she takes off her helmet and lets down that bright red hair. (We get it, Ron Howard, we get it.) It’s predicted at the very start of the film that she will betray her mother. So of course she does.
And what turns her? Well…
Madmartigan, another excellent fighter turned theif, is played by Val Kilmer as a medieval fantasy Indiana Jones. (Don’t believe me? Watch it again. That’s Indiana goddamn Jones right there.) And at one point Madmartigan is smacked in the face with some love dust by a Brownie. (The Brownies are another issue, don’t get me started.) The first lady type he sees while he’s all gakked up on goo-goo potion? Yeah. It’s Shorsha. A women who has, up until this point, fought him (and won), captured him, mocked him, and kicked him in the face. He’s drunk on fairy potion number 5, so he starts confessing an undying love for her. It’s sappy poetry and he can’t even remember it in the morning. She confronts him about it and he admits he can’t remember it. But that’s it. She’s turned. It takes her a little while yet, but all it took to turn a warrior princess away from her all powerful mother was a boy to tell her she’s puuuurdy.
Sure, it’s passes the Bechdel test, but the test paper is smeared in ketchup. Ew.

(I know that was a lot, but I remember this differently from watching it as a small child, and now I’m all worked up about it.)

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago.

The Bechdel test is definitely not a perfect system, I’ve found.

for a crime syndicate family to fear i gotta say the boss is a total limp biscuit compared to his wife who is hard as nails

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I think they made that very obvious for a reason. Both the judge and the mob boss are considered very powerful, but the judge’s complicity in covering his son’s guilt, and the boss’s complicity in giving his son the motorcycle which led to his getting killed (and forcing him to feel just as guilty over his son as the judge) weakens their individual power tremendously.

Thirteen (2016)
snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This is essentially a story of the aftermath of a Jaycee Dugard-type kidnapping and the twists and turns of the case that comes of it. A younger Jodie Comer is very effective as the kidnappee, who is hiding many secrets about her captivity that might make her seem like less of a victim to the detectives assigned to her case. The acting and writing is very good, and I was compelled to watch the whole series in one sitting.

When my brain finally dies, as they keep promising me it will, the mix of euphoria and terror will not be foreign to me. An electrical imbalance between the cells will wade through neurons filling themselves with charged ions as the electromagnetic forces try to wipe clear the charge imbalance and maintain a hold on the ions. As the systems panic, the serotonin sets in. My eyes glaze.

Kaley Cuoco is a rubbish actress and horribly annoying with her pitched voice. The character she portrays here is poorly written, nobody can be this stupid/ignorant to their situation (alcoholism).
1st and 2nd episodes kept me interested because i wanted to know the reason to the murder, but i couldn’t keep watching this crap after 3rd episode any more.
Perhaps with a decent cast and a better written script this could have been a gem.

THANK YOU.So glad someone agrees with me. Couldn’t get past the first episode because of the suckage factor of Kaley Cuoco and company. Ugh. Talentless.

Suspiria (1977)

A masterpiece of Italian expressionist cinema. Giallo at its best. Possibly one of the best art direction and set design works in movie history.

snazzydetritus 6 points 3 years ago*.

When I first saw it in 2000, the sets and art production influenced my painting and drawing for years, and still do. How incredibly gorgeous is the art deco lobby? and how terrifying is the dark city square in the scene with the feral dog?

Suspiria (1977)
snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

Yes, it is misogynist (tons of women get killed brutally, and the director himself admitted his misogynism outright). But the villains are also witches who are female, and there is no more exalted, gorgeous, operatic horror film in the world.

thanks for doing the work. i had totally forgotten this show ever existed until it popped up here. like the op, i saw there were no links and i got to go down a lovely, nostalgic internet rabbit hole. duckman leading, of course, to youtube suggesting other shows, which were memories of my youth…and 3 hours later. :)

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago.

I used to relish this show as a teenager when it was airing. Jason Alexander was born to voice this cartoon- for me, it’s as inexorably linked to him as George Costanza on Seinfeld. And Dweezil Zappa (Frank Zappa’s son, natch) playing Duckman’s fat, laid-back son, as well as composing the theme song, is just a genius choice.

Just so you know , I came here wanting to see some Duckman the other day and noticed there were no links, so I started hunting for some, and found a good slew of them on youtube, but it’s an incomplete collection. I really didn’t even suspect the son until half way through this episode, but even then a lot doesn’t add up if he was the killer. How come he left no bloody footprints? How come he has no dna at the scene? How did he avoid getting on camera going to and from the scene, even his father, who is quite familiar with the location couldn’t avoid the cameras, so how did the son? Does the son hide the hammer every time he needs to use the violin case? Why wouldn’t the son just get rid of the hammer? Does the husband know it was the son and came up with the story of leaving? Did the husband flee in order to protect his son and make himself the primary suspect? lots of questions need answers here.

Be prepared to have very few of them answered, especially since it’s just a TV show and you seem to want to superimpose realism upon it.

This is great, but my god, Nicole Kidman’s face is so botoxed and blown-up, she can’t even make a convincing facial expression anymore. That is a pathetic thing for an actor to do to their face, their livelihood, as it is meant to convey so much information to the viewer. It really cuts down on my enjoyment of the show.

Amy Schumer: Growing (TV Special 2019) (2019)
Arcangel2020 4 points 3 years ago.

Wow. “Amazing” how Amy Schumer keeps getting offers from Netflix to turn her (terrible) standup routine into shows. Clearly little Ms. Schumer is relying heavily on her uncle (Senator Chuck Schumer) to influence the right people at Netflix to keep throwing good money after bad when it comes to not one, not two..but three shows.
Amy Schumer is not…I repeat NOT as funny as she thinks she is..her 5 minutes of fame stemming from the awful movie “Train Wreck” expired years ago, the movies she has been in since bombed big time at the box office and she is about as relevant today as a 5 day old Ham Snadwich left out in the sun.
She needs to finally understand that there are far more intelligent and funnier female commedians out there who are so much more better than she is.
