I’m on ep2 and this looking to be some pretty good stuff. Well written, worth checking out. Tribal cops with some FBI guys complicating it, some native medicine spookiness tossed in. 7/10 so far.

I mean, it’s the future. WHo knows what kind of polymer based “hair stabilizers” we’ll have access to? Although I suspect Conan O’Brien has already been using it for over 20 years. lol

etim 1 points 1 year ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Hey, maybe we can get Conan to test his out. A clip of him getting whacked in the head with a pole hard enough to knock him out? Now THAT would be a Conan vid that I’d like to watch!

They did the same thing to Luke in the final trilogy. All that jedi training, you think they’d be zen masters and made of stronger stuff. Instead they’re bereft with guilt and crippled by PTSD. Humanizing super heroes sells comic books but these characters have been so hobbled by the writers it’s hard to watch.

etim 3 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I agree. McGregor has never played super macho characters and that’s great. I’ve liked the way he’s played roles ever since Trainspotting. But this director has got him actually whining in a few scenes. Obi-Whine Kenobi? Sheesh!

That’s some amazing mousse Pike’s got. He’s tackling bad guys, having romps in the hay and getting smacked over the head and knocked out—and his crazy sifi hairdo stays up thru alla that.

I’m guessing this season will be their last?…

This is awful. Made for the younger crowd—the dumber ones, anyway.
Shame on you, Marvel, for ever allowing Disney to do this to your brand.
Good luck trying to get thru a whole episode without hitting the skip key all through it.

Well, I liked this. I have immense respect for anyone that can poke fun of themselves, something that is rare in Hollywood.

I didn’t realize a good copy of this was out on the net. Thanks for getting me to check!

Ep 1 was pretty bad, boring. More of a catty drama, no comedy. Seems to be mostly a French production. I had trouble making it all the way to the end, waiting for something to happen that never did.
Someone post if it gets better, I’ll not waste any more time on it if not.

no we were not.. kirk kissed the green chick no problemo.. and the social issues were more a part of the actual stoies, not hidden like product placement..or an alternate reality.. I kinda like the whole kaptain pike and his band of gals feel to it..lol just not comfy with the woke crap that being snuck into every show thats made lately.. I would prefer to be entertained without so much “agenda” behind it.. I get that stories have a moral.. just prfer the standard ones, not the “new ideology” hidden in the old stories kinda thang.. But I presume this comment will get deleted too..lol because , you know .. free speech and differing opinions are so not important any more.. heh heh

etim 1 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

LOL—If you wanna whine about ‘woke agendas’, just wait a week or so for when the nurse and the butch pilot start dating.

And kissing white women in green makeup ain’t quite the same thing.

etim 10 points 2 years ago*.

Yeah, well, they were saying the very same things about the original Star Trek…over and over and over….back when it first ran.
A couple (of many) examples—
‘’OMG! it has a black woman(!) doing a job that’s not a maid! OMG!’’ and ‘’Aaaagh! Capn’ Kirk kissed a black woman! Right on the mouth!’’…and on and on… ‘’What’s this country coming to?! They’re takin’ over!’’
Some things (and people) never change.

Under the Banner of Heaven (2022)

Intense show, really well made. Mainstream Mormon cops after a bunch of religious fanatics. Gets wild!
Final ep is a double one, out now (6/2).

Tom Swift (2022)
etim 2 points 2 years ago.

Another CW show trying way too hard to be hip and trendy. Second rate acting and writing by pretty boys (and girls) who should have stayed in modeling. Oh well, the teenieboppers will love it.

GREAT song at the end of this ep! One of my all time favorites—that whole album was primo.

Zero Contact (2022)
etim 2 points 2 years ago*.

Neat movie. More of a sifi/mystery than a thriller. Made during the pandemic, no actors or crew except for an occasional family member were ever in the same room together. You’ll need to pay attention to details or it can get confusing.
I think they pulled the filming while isolating trick off pretty well. 6/10

There’s an extra little bit of ‘how it was made’ in the end credits too.

Good show so far but Leia is so annoying.

Not so much annoying to me (yet) but she doesn’t fit right. Looks like they got a 6 yo to play a 10 yo.

If you need ‘em, Subscene has subs for all 8 eps in one download.

Don’t start watching this before bedtime, you’re gonna wanna binge this one. Slow start but getting real interesting (part way thru ep3) 7/10 so far.

Edit: really good story but it was dragged out for way too long. Woulda been much better if it had been told in 5-6 eps instead of 8.
I’d like to see it come back for a s2 but only if they pick up the pace and cut back on the side dramas. 6/10 overall.

Gaslit (2022)
NoelCoyotebleu 1 points 2 years ago.

I recognized him immediately, profile and voice. looks like a good show.

etim 2 points 2 years ago.

Yeah, now that I’m aware that he’s in the show I can’t unsee that it’s him. Had me fooled up till then, though—I thought it was just some vaguely familiar character actor’s face.
Not to mention I don’t usually look too closely at crusty old dudes’ faces—all us old farts look alike anyway ;)

Morbius (2022)
darklighter1 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

It was actually pretty good. A S#1+load better than the Venom movies but the midcredits scenes made ZERO sense.

etim 1 points 2 years ago.

I think that was the idea. To tease us as to what some sequels might be about and at the same time keep us wondering…and speculating. Keep the chatter and hype machines churning.

And I agree, the movie was pretty good. Sometimes the early negative hype from all the whiny trolls makes some flicks that much more enjoyable when we do finally get to see ‘em.

Gaslit (2022)
etim 3 points 2 years ago*.

Wow. Sean Penn is unrecognizable in this. Wasn’t until the third ep or so till I remembered he was in it.

Operation Mincemeat (2022)
etim 2 points 2 years ago.

Starts out fairly boring and stiff/proper—reminded me of the old 50s Brit movies. Picks up some after ~1:15 and gets more interesting but don’t expect a lot of excitement here. History buffs will like it more than the regular movie crowd. Great acting, tho. 6/10

Firestarter (2022)

This was pretty good. Better than I’d expected what with IMDBs lousy rating. I’d give it at least a 6.6/10 and ready for a sequel!

The Northman (2022)
etim 1 points 2 years ago*.

Cool movie!
But IMO, several of the scenes would have worked better if the hi-dollar actors hadn’t been directed to read their lines in such an unnatural, Shakespeare-ish cadence. It was like they were reciting, word for exact word, some ancient poetry— making some scenes feel unnatural and awkward. Sometimes it felt more like I was watching a stage play rather than a Viking flick.

Visually and story-wise, great fun tho.
8/10 for everything except the dialogue, 4/10 on that end.

Halo (2022) S1 E7
motion333 3 points 2 years ago.

Easily the most boring and pointless B story ever. God I hate Kwan so much. This episode is excruciating.

etim 3 points 2 years ago*.

Yeah, the writers have gone to great lengths to make her so hateable. I was hoping she’d do a big switcheroo by now and get more likable—you know that’s gonna happen sooner or later. But I dunno how they’re gonna pull that one off—she’s pretty much solidly on everyone’s shit list by now. With any luck they’ll have someone knock her on her ass soon, that would be fun to see.

The Highwayman (2022)
etim 1 points 2 years ago.

This wd be pretty good— if it had been made in the 70s and shown on Sun afternoon TV.
Reminds me of those garbage cowboy movies they make nowadays where everyone wears brand new clothes and tries to pretend they’re real actors.

Outer Range (2022) S1 E8
etim 2 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I’m really counting on there being a season 2! There’s a LOT of unfinished and unanswered threads, esp after it was shown that Autumn and Amy were the same person. I’m still wondering if there’s any significance of that scene where (and why) the school bus driver dropped Amy off in the middle of nowhere and what happened after Trevor gave her a ride.
Hopefully it will pick up right where s1 left off—I wanna see how long it takes for Autumn to realize that her generic anti-mania drug doesn’t work.

It could end like it did but the show has so much potential, what with the police chief, Shawn, the kid’s mom and the gubment, etc. getting involved it would be a shame if it did.
With any luck a lot of the scenes that seems nonsensical now will eventually all fit together and not just be because of sloppy writing.

If/when it does get renewed next year I’ll definitely be giving s1 a rewatch before I start s2 to keep all the loose ends and incongruities fresh in my mind. A second season could turn this confusing ‘mess’ into a masterpiece!

This is out now for all you Mike Myers fans. Written, directed and mostly acted by him so everything aboot it is real familiar. With so many of MM’s corny jokes and clones running around everywhere, there’s no way I’d binge this—I’d be having nightmares for a week.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022) S1 E1

First ep was pretty good! But we all knew it would be, eh?
Anson looks better with a beard (when he grows his real one) but not necessarily that scruffy rat’s nest of a mess they glued on for the opening. And Little Kirk still seems to always have been a dork, totally rockin’ a dorky stash for now—I wonder how long that will last?

These childhood memories of Picard feel very out of place and seems like they just needed the fillers to fit episode/season length at low cost.

Yeah, unnecessary and irritating IMO. Feels like some writers for ST: Discovery snuck in for a spell.

The Offer (2022)

The first 3 eps are dragged out, not real interesting—I think that’s more from the director than from the story itself. I might give it one more try but not much more if it doesn’t pick up.

Edit: It gets better, worth watching.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)

edit: very cool 1st ep. I want more NOW!

Life After Life (2022)
etim 4 points 2 years ago*.

Hmm. The synopsis sounds interesting but being a ‘BBC drama’ who knows? They’ve had a lot of great stuff— but are also known for some painfully slow and plodding offerings too.
IMDB is an 8.4 BUT that’s with only 16 votes so far.
Ep 1 just hit the net, time to find out.

Edit— watched the 1st ep, an interesting set up but was pretty slow thru most of it; got more interesting in the last 5-6 min. Dunno if I’ll make it thru all 4 eps. If you like to watch golf and baseball on TV, you’ll be liking this one.

Edit— stayed slow throughout but had enough oddities to keep it interesting enough to the end. Reasonably decent feel-good show.

Mel Gibson’s in it but it’s not a Mel movie. Better than the poor ratings (currently 3.7/10) on IMDB but still nothing to get excited about. Just a run of the mill spook action-thriller.
