Are All Men Pedophiles? (2013)
8STORY8 9 points 3 years ago*.

Glad I ended up watching it. At first, I shut it down after the first minute and a half, cautious and feeling uncomfortable with the opening. But, decided after then going to the IMDB page and reading a few positive enlightening reviews to give it another try. Only three minutes into it changed my mind from my initial impression, as it began and continued to handle the topic professionally, thoughtfully, respectfully and intelligently utilizing science - both biology and psychology - and as well history, cultures, societal norms, and the media. Very well done.

The Walking Dead (2010) S9 E15
8STORY8 5 points 5 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

How did they do this? They infiltrate quietly (Whisperers) among the living and the dead. I don’t believe it was only Alpha who came into The Kingdom undetected. They look for opportunity and take actions that they think will express their alpha-dominance. I don’t believe who they took was at all random. They look for what they think is weakness, and it looks to me like caring and emotion and human connection is weakness in their world view. So, I think Alpha observed and gave order who to take based on what she observed while there. Remember how we saw in flashbacks how she quietly observed her husband, saw his insistance to stay as weakness and without any significant communication with him about it, decided, exerted her dominance, waited for her moment and took him out. And, present time, she took people from each community. I don’t think that was by happenstance either, part of her alpha dominance strategy to hit them all from every community and type of bond and connection. Now, I’m assuming like how they knocked out Siddiq is how they likely took them w/o making a ruckus and being noticed, which seems to be their MOA. Whisper quiet un-noticed infiltrate (heck she’s been hiding an entire horde) and then make a grand display of alpha dominance: Heads on a stakes from each community and those who help them, bonding together, as the very marking of her territory, which is very animalistic to her in her way of thinking. She doesn’t personally know that attacking those bonds is the very strength, or can be, of these communities, rallying together - apparently she hasn’t had that life experience, which makes me ever more curious of her own backstory (childhood) before the walking dead event started.

3 episodes in and I’m really finding this clever and fun.

Married at First Sight (2015)
8STORY8 4 points 5 years ago.

This is the Australian Version of Married at First Sight. I’ve now watched both this version and the American one, while the same premise, they are very different. I like this one for it to me is more fascinating, entertaining, and yet the American version has it’s pluses. The US experts are more involved providing more support toward the couples success. And it does not have the weekly couples gathering dinner parties and weekly decision whether to stay in the “experiment” in front of the experts and the rest of the couples. While that adds an interesting dynamic and some pressure to the situation, it also adds some unnecessary and unhelpful drama (In my opinion), which might be interesting to viewers, but personally I’d rather see them succeed. Either way, I find myself coming back each season to watch them both.

Captain Fantastic (2016)

One of the best movies I saw in 2016. It’s intense, intelligent, dramatic, heart-warming and funny. Great acting. Highly Recommend, and it’s in my Favorites.

Another fantastic show from Denmark. However, I started watching it awhile ago and couldn’t finish because there were no links. I’m hoping to see it all the way to the end here. Well worth watching.

Another EXCELLENT offering from that talented writer Sally Wainwright; based on the real life diaries of the remarkable Anne Lister. 11/10

8STORY8 6 points 4 years ago.

Love this! Thanks jillyr for commenting and drawing my attention to it to check it out. I had not heard of it before even though it’s an HBO Series, which makes what I often find a bit boring, ie period pieces, so interesting! I’ve only watched the first episode, but can tell this is going to be one of my favs.

Naked and Afraid XL (2015) S5 E4

Gosh I’m really enjoying watching the 2 person (60 day couple). They are skilled and certainly have the chops, and I agree with their choice! Very cool.

Years and Years (2019)
8STORY8 3 points 3 years ago.

Wow, I watched this a year ago; feels like years and years, ironically. A few times during this surreal-like time of Pandemic and Revolution, I thought of this show and how though different it’s uncannily eerily thematically and in tone very similar.

Married at First Sight (2015)
Ditzygypsy 2 points 5 years ago*.

I like this one but I prefer the American version as an actual experiment and not just a mere ratings grab. The fact that they’re not even married here is a big issue because it makes the commitment all that much less serious. Plus they don’t even consider logistics for the couples when matching them, and Australia is a big place with enormously diverse cultural and even weather considerations. That sets the couples up to fail. They are also in a very fake bubble and never have to experience real life with their fake spouse. It may as well be an unscripted soap opera. The US couples DO get together with each other in real-world type social gatherings frequently. They go to work, decide which home to live in, meet neighbors, attend family functions, and make joint financial decisions. This show is really a pathetic joke, but it is one of my guilty pleasures; however, like you, I am more interested in seeing the successes (though there are almost ZERO) than I am interested in the drama of the failures. I matched 4 couples over 30 years ago, and they are all still married and very happy. They were all my friends from different parts of my life. These “experts” are either absolute idiots or just plain horrible people. As for the contestants, it must be awful to be so desperate, broken, and lonely. I was married for 15 years and then I had a disastrous relationship with a malignant narcissist for 7 years on and off, and have been free for 9 years. I love being free, and I will never date or get involved with anyone again. I am too happy and content and I like myself far too much. Thinking another person is the answer to your lack of happiness is 100% wrong. You have to like being with just yourself and enjoy being on your own first. You have to like it so much that you think VERY VERY HARD before you sacrifice that for the irritation, er, I mean constant presence of another person in your life, heart, and bed!

8STORY8 3 points 5 years ago*.

Hey Ditzygypsy thanks for such a considered and also personal reply. I might later do same, but been a busy at length and am here to get some needed “down time” before re-engaging in my own life drama. But, still wondrous all the same to first check my notifications and see some one gave such an effort to share their experience of both the show and relationships. First of all, I agree with what you’ve said about the show and the two versions. Second, way to go on a personal level living and learning and choosing for yourself, your happiness, your sanity, and may life bless you here on out for all those hard lessons and choices. I have had my own, so I surely understand the ramifications of such. And, yes desperation is one helluva hard lesson. While self love ain’t easy either by any means, the pay off is so much worth it. I’m about to dive in to the next epi.

Gidseltagningen (2017)

I’m not sure what happened to episode 7. The second season of this is even better than the first but could someone please, if possible, upload a working version of episode 7? The one on here right now is only 7 minutes long and it’s all wonky. Tak!!

Australian Survivor (2002)
8STORY8 4 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Mid-way through the Finale and can say I’ve enjoyed this as much as I’ve enjoyed many of my favorite seasons of the US version. I wasn’t sure I’d like that just two go to final tribal (though I know US has done that but usually does the finale three) but I did like it. That lends to even more weight and power to that final immunity challenge and that winner’s decision who to take with them and a fascinating opportunity for the remaining two to powerfully speak their pitches to them and in front of the jury. This brings another level of strategy to the game. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone (I was careful to be general), so enough said, and I’ll get back to watching the second half.

This Is Us (2016)
PacificLilly 3 points 4 years ago.

💯% spot on!!!! I ✔completely✔ agree with 8STORY8!!! 5 out of 5 stars and 2 👍👍!!!
This is not only one of my favorite TV series in the drama category, but truly one of my all time favorite shows! This series is inspirational, heart-wrenching, and as 8STORY8 put it so well, “deeply moving!”
The individual storylines are so interesting and are great all on their own. But also, each separate or stand alone storyline is completely intertwined with all of the other ones and then also with the overall plot. The ways in which the writers have done this, how they have executed it all is truly amazing- and IMO part of this show’s “magic!!!”
The characters are so… well, to put it succinctly,, so human! 😉☺ They are all very intricately and simply “human”- they’re all complicated and complex people who are brilliant and are also flawed, damaged, works-in-progress. These characters are all the things that us mere mortals are in “real life.” And I think I love this series in part due to the characters seeming so real. They are depicted as 100% perfect and imperfect but not done so in such an obviously fake, cheesy or unnatural way as how some other characters are portrayed in other fictional dramas.
The writting is utterly superb! All of the dialogue is without a doubt, some of the best around, and seems to just “fit” like how the last piece of a puzzle fits. (And all of it executed in a way that it comes off a real, and natural.)
I’ve become so attached and invested in this family! I can’t wait to watch the past, present, and future of these stories and see how they unfold!
The only downside to this series is that now the weekly wait, for the next episode, begins again! 😊☺❤

8STORY8 4 points 4 years ago.

Agreed! The writing is so thoughtfully complexly layered and interwoven, yet at the same time relatable, understandable, real, which makes this show stand above so many others like it. Superb creativity here.

Лучше, чем люди (2018)
8STORY8 3 points 4 years ago*.

5 min. in and I’m already highly intrigued! I read the IMDB reviews via link in comments, thanks etim. And, premise-wise, and as stated in IMDB comments, it is the Russian version of Humans. BUT, as also stated there, and I can sense in the first 5 minutes, it’s not a copy of it either; It’s got it’s own plot trajectory, yet same premise, and yet also different setting in technology developments, than Humans is. (I’m a fan of Humans, but I can see in the first five minutes that this has a unique tone of its own and an entirely different main character - and an intriguingly interesting one). Cool, I’m eager to dive into it further.

I liked the finale. To me it was intense in depth of emotion.

Replicas (2018)
8STORY8 3 points 4 years ago.

Glad I gave it a try, wasn’t disappointed. Second half really picked up steam. Middleditch anchored the acting, the others were a bit stiff, which somewhat could compliment Keanu’s Reeve’s character’s personality type, but not so with the others, so I gave it a 3.8/5 and still would recommend it as an interesting, thought-provoking, an entertaining movie.

Peaky Blinders (2013)
GinJuice 3 points 5 years ago.

Criminally under-rated television show. Great soundtrack, story with crazy twist and violence. More people should check this one out, by order of the Peaky Blinders!

8STORY8 3 points 5 years ago.

heehee love it GinJuice! I agree and oh yes, I remember even though it’s been a year or more ago that I watched it, I remember that the soundtrack was fantastic. Ah, I miss me some Peaky Blinders ~ Didn’t want it to end!

Bless This Mess (2019)
8STORY8 3 points 4 years ago*.

Enjoying this, despite the low IMDB rating. And, I don’t usually like stupid-ridiculous-funny sitcom humor, but this is enjoyable to me. And, I wouldn’t classify it “dark humor” but it’s borderline, and to me that’s kind of refreshing because there’s plenty of dark-humor that’s quality, but less “borderline-dark” (made that term up, lol) that does not bore me. This took me a little bit to get into the swing of it, but just finished watching ep. 4 and had a couple of laugh out loud moments along with chuckling and I desire to see the next episode. Bless this Mess reminds me of an updated version of the classic sitcom Green Acres (1965) story-line. Thank goodness it doesn’t have an opening song like GA had! Though, it was funny and catchy, it sticks in my head way too long after hearing it. My housemate watches reruns of it now and again. I think BTM is cast really well and that’s key once you get the rhythm of their characters.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Fangaliel 4 points 4 years ago.

Epic story with a young very good actor as main character.
It’s a Sci-fi fairy tale, and the story goes deep into the imagination of the creator. I like went people develop their thoughts till the end :)

8STORY8 3 points 4 years ago*.

Ah, did a little research on “Haley Joel Osment” who plays the a.i. boy ~ no wonder you found him to be a “young very good actor”; He did this movie following The Sixth Sense and Pay it Forward. But I never heard of this one. “He is the first millennial male to have received an Academy Award nomination for acting.” (IMDB)
I do look forward to checking it out.

Ah, the brilliant complexities of family, relationships, and life. Deeply moving. Didn’t take me long before I felt invested, wanting to understand more from the past and see what will happen next. I can’t believe this show is rated so low on here. It’s one of the funniest shows I’ve watched. Its a bit off beat but it’s very funny! Give it a try!

8STORY8 2 points 5 years ago.

I admit sometimes I either forget to rate stuff I’ve watched or don’t think rating is that important since I often go more by ratings on IMDB, reviews, comments or my gut. But I’m glad your comment brought this to my attention. I’ll do better at rating stuff here. Thanks. Tried YTW’s first episode, idk just wasn’t in the mood for it, but it did seem like a high quality dark comedy. Glad you’re enjoying it, rating it, and promoting it. Thanks

When Alden talks smack to Lydia, I like how Darryl shuts him down and then tells Lydia when she says that she just doesn’t want to be a problem, that “It’s not your problem. It’s theirs.” I feel he applies that same wisdom to Ezekiel’s request for him to leave him and Carol, that it would be easier. And, I like how it’s left a bit unclear if whether Ezekiel’s talking about whether it’s because of Lydia or just Darryl himself, leaving it up to us and Darryl to discern what’s going on here. Lydia’s the scapegoat. It’s truly the bond that Carol has with Darryl that Ezekiel feels threatens his and Carol’s bond. I honestly think Ezekiel knows better, but he’s at a low. He’s broken down. Carol’s broken down. The plumbing is broken down. Hilltop’s broken down. They have to admit the magic they’ve created “there” is now broken, rotted. But, in this same way Darryl is clear it’s not his problem. He didn’t and isn’t the reason for them breaking down.

The Walking Dead (2010) S9 E16
8STORY8 2 points 5 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I love the scenes between Carol and Lydia. They are so deep. The connections between the many choices Carol has made in the past with regards to whether to kill or not kill, particularly a child but even as far back as the two at the prison (like season 2 was it?), if they are a danger to the group. This is a powerful emotional challenging dilemma to face once again for Carol and in her broken grieving state. And, I like too how what she sees and says to Lydia is reminiscent but completely the opposite to what Lydia’s mother has said and done. I like to how Lydia suicidally offers the same arm that she has marks of being punished for her weakness to the walker. And then, in the last scene we see how Alpha has them too, why and how. wild. Good writing.

I mean seriously can you imagine back 1, 2, 3 seasons finale’s ago (albeit six years ago there time), imagining Negan would save Judith? I got the heart-feels when Negan lifted up Judith and put her over his shoulder, held the dog, limped along, thinking about if Rick could only see this now - (which begs that whole thematic question can people change? redeemable?) wow, neato. And that moment when he tries to make Judith laugh with that “dog better poop golden nuggets” but she’s more worried about his leg to laugh. Then, omg, he leans forward and puts his head against hers but for a brief moment…dudes, to me, that’s amazing movement in a story from bashing heads to that and it’s believable. <3 wowza
