No, it’s not “aimed” at preteens. It is autobiographical. You have no idea what it is about or what you’re talking about, but do keep blathering on. You still haven’t watched it and are in no position to critique either the style or the content. It doesn’t seem like it wouldn’t go over your head anyhow, so maybe just don’t bother and keep your comments about movies you haven’t watched to yourself? And the pedophile we had evicted from a nearby building had a stash of Hannah Montana DVD’s. That was his go-to viewing to satisfy himself. This movie has a message that you are clearly too obtuse to comprehend.

I hadn’t heard of this, but it was quite good. I can see why people are comparing Lexy to Drew Barrymore. I thought of Firestarter several times. Amanda Crew is a high school friend of my goddaughter, who lived with us for some time. I’m glad I gave this a shot, and thank you, uploaders for the streamplay link.

Did Charlize Theon get plastic surgery? I can barely recognize her! I was trying to figure out who she was.

They used very artful prosthetics and makeup. But she did an amazing job with her voice and her accent.

This is fantastic. I’ve loved Michael Sheen since I saw him in Laws of Attraction 15 years ago as the crazy punk rocker. He and Tennant have incredible chemistry in this series and the soundtrack and theme song variations are superb. If you like Lucifer, I think you’ll like this. Such a treat.

yeah well other films i wanted to watch aint workin so i might give it a go
..
I first saw her in a Flashman book, which are historical comedies about a scoundrelly cowardly selfish prick .. its the school bully from Tom Browns Schooldays grown up .. he somehow manages to make enemies of every great man of the 1800s and have sex with every interesting woman (but not this one) :)

In the american story, gloriously evil Flashy manages to be both a slave traffiker and slave escapee helper .. all because hes a lying cowardly brute as usual :)
What else do you expect of a man who fought on BOTH SIDES of the american civil war lol
Later in the same story he survives the battle of little bighorn .. he was one of the indians! lol

Ditzygypsy 8 points 4 years ago*.

I’d never heard of the bully Flashman or the book or stories. After the tiny bit of research and reading I just did, I am really amazed that it is fiction that introduced you to Harriet. I find that fascinating, since Flash is a fictional character, but who cares because it made you curious about a real and very courageous person.

I don’t care for broadway singing, or broadway music, really at all, but I have seen The King and I with Yul Brynner from the 3rd row, and that was definitely spellbinding, and American Idiot was really good. They didn’t ruin Green Day’s music, like Mamma Mia unequivocally destroyed ABBA, and I was sure it would be hard to stomach, but I was very pleased to be wrong. Especially the girl who played Whatsername. So I didn’t really know if I’d like this, or even be able to tolerate it, but maybe because it wasn’t Andrew Lloyd Webber, I actually didn’t just like it; I loved it. There were even parts that choked me up, much to my surprise. They were all fantastic, especially Jefferson, but I think King George stole the show. Thank you uploaders.

Richard Jewell (2019)
Ditzygypsy 9 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I wish people would say why they give something one star. I try to explain my judgement. Is the movie poorly made? Is the acting awful? Do you think it’s well-made but disagree with the content or slant of the perspective of the creators? I like biopics, and I remember this. I felt very sorry for him, and I believe the whole disaster they made of his life was definitely avoidable, but I don’t know the inside of the story (because I wasn’t there, as most of us also were not there) to know if there is or isn’t just one person to push that blame on. I want to see this because Eastwood makes good movies, and because it’s my favourite genre. I will come back and say if it liked it in an edit. But it doesn’t mean I liked the perspective, and I’ll try to say so if that’s the case. It is just one movie maker’s perspective. At any rate, Richard deserved a movie about his ordeal. That much I do feel strongly about. Please explain why you feel this is a low-rate, one-star movie. If you actually watched it, that is.
I’m not sure what I may have said that seemed like a spoiler in my actual “review” below, because I didn’t reveal anything that we don’t already know historically, but I was asked to put my spoiler parts in spoiler brackets. So I think I have to put this entire piece in as a spoiler? I have always understood history to be unspoilable unless you live under a rock. Please don’t live under a rock.
EDIT: I enjoyed the movie. The acting was superb. I felt the same heartache for Richard as I always did. I don’t think the Press is bad. Reporting is necessary, especially where politicians are concerned! I’m not American, but I don’t believe the FBI is corrupt, but there are ambitious people who seem soulless in every line of work. I think this was a snowballing effect of tunnel vision and personal ambition, but the reporter who stared it all is also no longer here to add any further personal insight to her actions. This is one take on the story, and for the most part, as we saw it unfold in front of our eyes, this is what happened on the outside. Whether or not what went on inside the minds and through the actions of the key players in the FBI and the Press happened the way this movie shows us, we can’t know for certain. But something did go wrong, and it was human action that caused it. I believe the Press is very important, and there are hundreds of journalists who do their jobs with integrity, just as there are those integrity-driven people populating law enforcement. There are bad people in every line of work. This movie in no way changes my opinion of the news I take in or my feelings about the good that law enforcement does. I am just glad Richard’s story got told. My heart goes out to his mother, too, since I’m a single mom of one son. Thank you, uploaders.

Knives Out (2019)
Ditzygypsy 8 points 4 years ago.

I had no idea what this was about. I hadn’t seen any trailers for it. It was great! I have to say that Daniel Craig blew me away. I’ve seen him in a few things. I’m a James Bond fan, but I haven’t been able to get through the first one of his Bond films (tried 3 times with the first one and fell asleep each time), nor have I tried any of the rest of them after that, but I have seen him in quite a few other movies playing different kinds of characters. This was so different from all of those. Kind of like Kenneth Branagh in Wild, Wild West, but not quite as quirky/silly. There’s a bit of a scene where he’s singing away in a car by himself, and I thought his comedic timing was pretty good. And not-so-nice Chris Evans was different. But I still think he’s a sweetheart. The jokes about the kid who’s “basically a Nazi” had me laughing out loud, and Don Johnson always does a pretty solid performance. Great story and nice twists. Thank you, uploaders!

Ditzygypsy 6 points 3 years ago*.

It’s pretty clear from your comment that you haven’t watched it. You’ve only looked at the American poster and synopsis. This is a semi-autobiographical story of the director’s life as a little girl. It is shining a light on how things actually are for many little girls. Watching it in French would help even more, but I don’t expect most Americans to be able to do that. However, jumping on the judgement bandwagon with others who haven’t watched it is also pretty typical. You don’t get to post a comment on a movie that you haven’t watched and not get called out.

Yesterday (2019)

This was an interesting fantasy. Kind of like a time travel movie. I like that idea. I was never a big Beatles’ fan, but I do recognize legends when I hear them, and if I had been a big Beatkes’ fan, there are some scenes in here that really would’ve made me choke up. In fact, I did get choked up a little bit, anyhow. I think it’s a very sweet movie, although the performer is pretty awful. I thought we were supposed to think he blew his first live concert, but it was supposed to have been a great success, and I and a few other musicians were the only ones laughing. I think if you love the Beatles and/or like time travel/alternate universe flicks, you might enjoy this.

Last Christmas (2019)
Ditzygypsy 6 points 4 years ago.

If you’re avoiding this because you think it’s just a sappy rom-com, without spoiling it, I can tell you that it isn’t really a romantic movie. I rarely get choked up over romance, and that’s why this caught me off guard and I did have to swallow a few tears. The music is fantastic, and Emma Thompson steals the show. It’s also kind of a lovely tribute to George Michael, his song, and the fact that he passed on Christmas Day. I met him in 1987, and I feel lucky to have that experience in my memory. Thank you, uploaders.

Bluecannon - temporarily banned for calling someone an idiot. Can’t post for 24 hours. This is the workaround.

This is just going round and round. I called out hypocrisy. That doesn’t mean that I liked the film. I said that the film had a message that people aren’t getting. Again, doesn’t mean I like the film. People like YOU are taking it personal, jumping in, paraphrasing, and distorting. That’s a really interesting reaction to someone saying that a film has a message. Chill out.

Bluecannon : I DON’T care if you like the film or not. And I never said I liked it. What I said is that there’s a message in the film, and the faux uproar is overshadowing it. Why do I call it faux? You prove it when you said that an 11 year old exposes her breast. That’s not in the film. A US senator claimed it was, and you bought into it. And then, you’re spreading the misinformation along. It’s fake, because even those who obviously haven’t seen the film are getting all offended. It’s ridiculous.

Then on the other side of the spectrum, you’ve got ShiftyPickle paraphrasing.
I said preteens are discovering their bodies. He / she interprets that as meaning they’re exploring their sexuality. See what I mean? Distortion again.

The uproar about this film smacks of hypocrisy. No uproar when we see:

  • Toddlers in beauty pageants.
  • 7 year olds in child beauty pageants, wearing full makeup, hair and lashes and often hypersexualized.
  • Various dance competitions on tv where you see kids performing similar dance routines as that shown in the finale of Cuties.
  • The film Little Miss Sunshine with a 9-year old character doing a striptease to the music of Rick James Superfreak blaring in the background.

And NOW you want to show your outrage? Ummmm, okay. It seems people don’t complain seeing the end result of a dance routine featuring kids acting more adult than their ages (like I said, you see this stuff on television weekly in dance competition shows), but let’s bring out the pitchforks and clutch our pearls if a film shows the actual rehearsal process of the routine because…well…THAT just crosses the line (eye-roll).

Guess what? There’s an actual message in this film - maybe you’d pick up on that instead of focusing on the dance moves and its perceived titillation.

And FYI, in real life, 11 year old preteens are discovering their bodies. It’s called puberty. You can be shocked that a film DARE address the issue and dangers of preteens on social media - or you can accept the facts of life, that this IS the fact of life. But the faux puritanical outrage? Give me a break…

Ditzygypsy 6 points 3 years ago.

The fact that it is a semi-autobiographical take on the director’s life also makes it even more profound. This IS what is happening to little girls. Being a parent is terrifying, so most of the negative-content comments are coming from those without kids. It’s so much easier and requires so much less bravery just to look at the [Amerrican version] poster and jump on the naysayer, crazy-Q bandwagon than it is to actually watch it and understand how we need to know about the awful things so we can fight to change them and keep our children safe.

Chasing Christmas (2005)

This was filmed in Maple Ridge, BC, although it was filmed during the summer. But the house he finds himself in from his childhood is the first house my parents built that we lived in from 1968-1971 when I was 3-6 years old. The first time I saw this, my heart leapt into my throat and I started bawling because I immediately recognized it. We had amazing Christmases when my father was alive, but those early ones for me are unforgettable. I had my first, and only one of a few, white Christmases in that house in 1969. Life really was so much simpler.

Fantasy Island (2020)
JadeEnigma 6 points 4 years ago*.

I must say, the audio and video quality is quite good for a cam, and I really did enjoy the movie overall. I found it very entertaining, and the twistiness, often lambasted in online reviews for this film, was really not that bad at all. It did remind me of the television series in many ways. It is less a horror, though, than it is an adaption of a fantasy or even perhaps a little sci fi-ish. But yeah, really had fun with this one.

Another Life (2019)

I’m trying to like this. I have Netflix and I’d saved it in my List, and I am finally giving it a watch today. I find the parts on earth with the music-playing entity thing more interesting than the space parts. Katee Sackhoff is a really bad actress, and I found that out last year after watching her in a movie about some entity that landed in Antarctica and which was mostly monologue acting/interacting with a computer voice. It was at best like watching a very bad high school play. When she was supposed to be reminiscing, it was so fake. And she’s really hard to look at. I never watched the remake of Battlestar Galactica, because I was a fan of the original series, and I actually read the book when I was 13, and Starbuck will only and always ever be Dirk Benedict, but I like space shows, and there’s really nothing out there right now except this, and I was hoping that she had gotten a bit better. And I’m going to give the fourth and fifth episode a chance, but I really hope I’m not going to continue to be disappointed and kind of creeped out just by her in general. I mean, a little bit of make up wouldn’t have hurt.

Well that was a big, fat bunch of pointless, plotless nonsense. The disgusting chewing and the screaming kid was just gross. I’ve never particularly been a big fan of either Garland or Zellweger, but this was fantastic. She managed to mimic Garland’s awkward, jerky stage movements and mic mannerisms, her facial expressions, and even her speech pattern extremely well. My favourite movie genre is biographical, and especially, music biographies. The costumes, makeup, and portrayal were all incredible. The story shows how mind-f&cked she was as a child star in flashbacks and how terribly lonely she was as an adult as her career waned. Thank you, uploaders.
(PS: The yellow on-screen ad-writing does go away, even though it kind of sits and slowly scrolls in front of the screen for a bit in the very beginning.)

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)
Ditzygypsy 4 points 4 years ago.

Well, I thought this was very entertaining; especially the first and last thirds of the movie. I actually like watching cam versions sometimes because I can hear the in-theatre audience reacting, and boy, did they react to things in this movie. Thor Ragnarok cam version was another movie that I actually enjoyed watching. The ending was fantastic to this, and it was nice to see the real Sharon Tate in the scene in the movie with Dean Martin when the character, Sharon Tate, goes to the cinema to watch herself in that movie. Her murder happened 2 days after my 4th birthday, and I happened to overhear my parents talking about it, and I can’t forget it. The costumes, sets, and hairstyles were very accurate, and it was also bittersweet seeing the late Luke Perry. The Steve McQueen cameo by Damian Lewis was terrible, and they should’ve actually just left his hair alone instead of pouffing it up ridiculously like they did. He did a terrible impression of McQueen, and his lines were stupid. Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio had great chemistry, but sometimes the pit bull stole the show, lol. Especially at the end! Thank you SO much, uploaders. I was looking forward to this.

Ditzygypsy 4 points 4 years ago.

I knew of her because we studied the Canadian role in the Underground Railroad in Canadian history in university and she did live in St. Catherines, ON for awhile. Also, we have to study American history in 6th grade here, so I remember learning about her work a bit when I was a little girl. I’m stunned they rejected having her on one of the American dollar denominations. We put our Canadian civil rights activist Viola Desmond on our $10 Bill. I didn’t know all the biographical details that they played out in the film, but a lot of it was familiar. The copy was ok, but I’m on an iPad with Retina display and great EarPods, so I find the cam copies as of late to be not too bad if I don’t want to wait. Bios and historical films are my favourite kind of movie, so I personally couldn’t wait to see it. I hope you will enjoy it!

The Stranger (2010)
Ditzygypsy 3 points 4 years ago.

Quite a bit of this was filmed outside at my family’s antique car restoration/auto body shop in Mission, BC in the summer of 2009. The -real- homeless people were eyeing all the clothes, tents, and blankets the set design crew had bought and set up as a homeless camp around the outside of the shop, which is under an overpass and beside train tracks. We volunteer at the Salvation Army, and so we tried to get them to give the stuff away to the street people when they were done, but I think they just tossed most of it. Also, they didn’t buy it at Value Village (large second hand chain store here), like we suggested, so they’d save a pile of money. They bought it all new…just to set it outside for a couple of days. On another note, the movie is ok. The Canadian actor playing the FBI agent has a very pronounced (eastern) Canadian accent, though, so even though he’s not a bad actor, he kind of sticks out. Aaaand…I just realized there are no links for this anyhow, lol.

That’s weird, because pop music isn’t generally attributed to just one culture. The beginnings that are traced back to Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc., are from the American South, but it is a genre that has grown and been loved and played worldwide. It couldn’t be cultural appropriation. And furthermore, in the movie, the world has not had the benefit of the Beatles, so from the perspective of inside the movie, it isn’t even considered copyright infringement, lol. But as you say, you’re not a Liberal, so maybe that’s why you think you know what a !iberal would think. No matter what irrelevant political leanings someone has, they shouldn’t correlate one culture with pop music. Country music, maybe, but not rock or pop. Leave the politics out of music, please. Unless a song is specifically political, I think it ruins the music to taint it with someone’s political ignorance or wisdom.
