Really great HBO Masonic-Gnostic Dust Bowl series that uses archetypes within the period story of bad vs. good. Totally swept under the rug. Hey… Clancy Brown, Amy Madigan, Toby Huss & Nick Stahl- not to mention old school fav Adrienne Barbeau.

The Dean Martin Show (1965)
Wade1117 1 points 11 months ago.

Is there access to more than two episodes?

random000 7 points 11 months ago*.

Dean’s show ran about a decade, so there’s lots of shows we’re missing. Our aunt had about 30 shows scattered from 1968 to 1973, and we posted all that we had. Wish we had them all, but we don’t. 30 shows is the equivalent of one season. These days no one works anymore, so 30 shows is the equivalent of a few seasons by contemporary standards.

What we do have that isn’t posted are 10 volumes of The Best Of Dean Martin, but there’s no pages provided to post those to.

Last week we also posted the 2002 Martin & Lewis movie as well as 2 Dean Martin docs, The King Of Cool 2021 as well as The One And Only 2002.

Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster (1991)
random000 7 points 4 months ago.

This uses classic toons from 1950 up to 1959 and loosely forms them together into a single classical toony concert. The main sequences are from The Rabbit Of Seville (where we get to the only shot of Bugs with 5 fingers), Baton Bunny, What’s Opera Doc (most people know it as Kill The Wabbit), and then Back Alley Oproar. They rerecorded the music new from Back Alley though due to copyright problems, so there’s a big difference from Carl Stalling’s work over to the 90s version.

It’s easy to tell the difference between the newer 90s stuff and the classic 50s stuff. It’s like the difference between a diamond & a piece of glass. The line work is inconsistent & sloppy, there’s a distinct difference between the original Mel Blanc voices & then Bergman’s, and the timing is off with the music cues. It’s fun, but What’s Opera Doc was the 1st cartoon preserved by the Library Of Congress & it’s award winning, so it’s noticeable when that genius work is spliced with sloppy 90s stuff. It’s like some art student coming in 100 years later & adding their own brushstrokes to a Rembrandt.

Hard to find anything made with more love & respect for someone so beloved. Louis Armstrong was the greatest. No one like him ever, before or since. The greatest.

Tank Girl (1995)
random000 6 points 3 years ago*.

Classic punk rawk nerd Riot Grrl cinema. Big fun. This isn’t meant to be Shakespeare or even Kubrick, you understand. This is low-budget Big Fun, so it’s not going to be anyone’s opus since it’s not meant to be. It’s a contemporary comic book film adaptation with a huge cult following & is frequently listed in top-10 superhero films of all time by a variety of sources. The rights to the film have even been optioned from MGM by Margot Robbie for a future reboot of this cult classic.

If you don’t get cheese or like it, that’s a matter of personal taste, but facts are facts & the fact is this film with a huge cult following isn’t going to go away. It’s in the same cinematic vein as The Rocky Horror Picture Show—- and to borrow a line from that cheesy dated film with a cult following of it’s own for those who don’t like Tank Girl — “I didn’t make him FOR YOU.”

That’s the thing with Tank Girl. It wasn’t made for everyone.

Lori Petty is the stand out actor in this, but there’s also Naomi Watts & Malcom McDowell. They’ve all been involved in better, more ambitious projects, but they’re fortunate to have been involved in this cult project.

This is a film that’s known for its soundtrack, having tracks from the legendary Riot Grrl band L7, Portishead, Iggy Pop, Devo, Joan Jett, Isaac Hayes, Richard Hell & Veruca Salt. For some of those artists, this film gave them exposure they never had, and for others, it rebooted their careers & gave them another chance. This is an important aspect of this film since it is the music community that 1st latched onto it & still keeps recognition of it going. The music fans of this film were the same people who were buying the comic books & are the same people that show up to the nerdy geek cons & cosplay events.

Like it or not, this film adaptation of Tank Girl has a rabid following & it isn’t going to fade away just because you want it to. It’s no Fellini. And it’s not meant to be. But if you like this kind of music & this kind of superhero or underground pulp comics, you’re going to have fun with Lori Petty, Naomi Watts & Malcom in this very fun CHEESY film.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022) S2 E2
random000 6 points 11 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

As Roddenberry noted, Star Trek was just “wagon train to the stars”, “Horatio Hornblower Sails The Galaxy”. That it was in space doesn’t matter. What matters was that it was a way to deliver Roddenberry’s own very liberal progressive ideas. Liberal. Free. Without restriction. Progress. Forward. For the people, the society, the community at center. He could care less how those ideas were delivered, but science based fiction was a good delivery medium to communicate his core ideology since it didn’t have to be set in contemporary times in order to juxtapose commentary upon contemporary concerns. Infinite Diversity In Infinite Combinations.

Brainwashed zombies cannot be reasoned with. For them, if it’s not xtian, then it belongs to their fake fairytale imaginary devil. Fewer things make them more angry than when you don’t believe in their devil worship. If you don’t - then that’s also the devil. Everything that disagrees with them is the devil. Their minds are closed & cannot be changed. Same goes with satan people. They get pretty fed up with people who don’t believe in a fake imaginary jesus. That’s all they are. Ticked off xtians who cannot let go of their imaginary fake beliefs. May as well have a conversation with a box of doorknobs.

Since Craig hasn’t been on network tv with his own late night show, people have kinda written him off & forgot about him - but this former punk rock drummer is way over-the-top funny. His humor is sneaky, crazy & absurd. He’s one of the nutty silly breed of comics that doesn’t try to shock or offend on purpose, but his humor is so offbeat that it catches you off guard & leaves you stitches without being a preachy turn-off. Totally funny guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously at all.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020)
somniloquist 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Larry the Cable Guy is still working. Go watch some Jeff Dunham. You’ll be fine.

random000 10 points 3 years ago*.

New here, so I don’t know anyone really other than a tiny fraction of folk. Don’t know Somn, for example. But I do know the train of thought is not that anyone’s a redneck. The train of thought is that based on your hateful closed-minded point of view, that if you view comedy that agrees with you, then perhaps these two particular people are likely to agree with your perspective; not that you’re a redneck. There are plenty of liberal rednecks too by the way. Plenty.

…it’s no insult to Dunham or anyone who likes him… not really… It’s just a matter of pointing someone in the direction of people with whom they might most likely agree with… and why not? Isn’t that what you want? An echo chamber of agreement?

So while you ponder that, why don’t you point out a single instance in history where an Israeli rounded up millions of russians or germans & arbitrarily put them to death based on a political, racial or religious dogmatic hatred? You can also add to that very short list, one single russian comedian who’s known & beloved worldwide for their humor, like say… Jerry Lewis, The 3 Stooges, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Jerry Seinfeld, Brad Garrett, Richard Lewis, Gilbert Gottfreid, Jeff Ross, Jeff Garlin, Marty Feldman, Carol Kane, Kevin Pollack, Gene Wilder, Laraine Newman, The Marx Brothers- Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Marc Maron, TJ Miller, Jack Benny, Morgan Murphy, etc. etc. etc.

Like all those with a brain disorder, you only chimed in to be negative, to insult, to expose your own racism & hatred for your fellow human beings. No one personally attacked you. This is a comedy film, made by & starring a very real human being who’s full of flaws. Some of those flaws may be his own political beliefs. But this isn’t a review of him, but a single film he made. If it enrages you that he exists & makes films, then don’t watch them. Watch what you like & say positive things about those things. But if you have racial hatred for other human beings, take a breathe & step away. There’s no shame in being silent.

As Mark Twain said:

"It is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth & remove all doubt."

That would’ve been awesome if a mini or film happened to wrap up the series. I love a lot of the shows that Bryan Fuller has been part of creating.

random000 5 points 4 months ago*.

Certainly ㋡ Interestingly all of Fuller’s series are connected. They exist in the Fullerverse, so the characters can be seen in his other shows. Georgia & Reggie Lass from Dead Like Me can be seen in Hannibal. They’re reworked, but Ellen Muth still plays Georgia. She’s not a reaper, but she’s a killer who believes she’s dead. Marianne Beetle is played by Beth Grant in Wonderfalls, Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and so on.

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
random000 5 points 7 months ago*.

Always loved this, but it’s amazing it got made at all. Karloff broke his hip on day one. Colin Clive had a broken leg & was a bad drunk. Elsa had to film in stilts & didn’t enjoy dealing with the bandages in order to pee. James Whale thought the original script stunk & opted to lampoon his own work, but look at the photography. Mel Brooks among many others really admired that guy. It’s a lovely film for that alone.

Oh hey this was a very big deal. This is when Hershey & Carradine were married, so when asked about the intimate scenes, they said they didn’t fake anything. Orson with his soon to be ex-wife Rita. There was a line of people that wanted to fillet him alive for having butchered her beautiful hair for this, but according to him, no one was more upset about the travesty than himself. The carny end with mirrors is a much talked about pay-off. Apparently this picture was done as a deal so Orson could get Around The World In 80 Days done. Good deal. Orson was an idiot regarding his personal dealings with Rita, but he was a brilliant filmmaker.

Well known LA surrealist psychedelic artist Marjorie Cameron, widow of rocket pioneer Jack Parsons, friend of Dennis Hopper & Dean Stockwell & cousin of Terminator-Avatar-Titanic director James Cameron embodied art in her life work, appears in this short. Although a cultural icon, there’s really nothing on film that represents her or her work.

Anyone who met her was mesmerized by her, but she was no actress. She was captured on film in Kenneth Anger shorts as well as the Water Witch with Hopper in the 1965 Poe-esque horror fantasy film Night Tide by horror director Curtis Harrington & also in his Wormwood Star short.

Cameron’s work is preserved in Paris, NYC & LA museums as well as her biography Wormwood Star, stage plays & bios about Jack such as Strange Angel & Sex & Rockets.

Anything to the right of the left-wing is right-wing. Now we need a documentary highlighting the left-wing takeover of mainstream media to really understand the advent of conservative media.

random000 5 points 6 months ago*.

There is no such thing. The conservative masters that own all media don’t allow for liberal media. It’s all anti-American conservative hate-speech propaganda all the time from cnn to faux. How to tell if the 4th Estate has been hijacked by treasonous conservatives? Faux has to legally classify their propaganda as “entertainment” because it has been legally found NOT to be news, and they can be sued out of existence overnight for propagating treason. But since they legally file it as “entertainment”, they avoid the firing squad for anti-American sedition.

When Metal Ruled the 80s (2023)
random000 5 points 8 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

These hair-pop bands aren’t Metal. Proto-Metal was born with the English power-trios such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, then carrying over to such American acts as Blue Cheer. Without exception however, True Metal - as opposed to false metal, is an English property. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, going on toward full fledged dyed in the wool Metal such as Judas Priest & Iron Maiden. That’s Metal. Not manufactured LA boyband nonsense.

The bands we played with were actual 80’s Metal bands such as Motorhead, Vader, Sodom, Candlemass, Slayer, Deicide, Death, and so on. None of them would call these bubblegum acts Metal. That’s an insult to hardworking musicians everywhere.

The greatest role Norma Jean Mortenson ever played was that of the fictional character she named Marilyn Monroe after her maternal family surname. Unlike a lot of really great talents such as Mae West, Norma kept the two things distinct & separate & didn’t get lost in the false persona. She was far more solid & intelligent than most give her credit for.

There is a difference in the actual person of Norma Jean Mortenson and the character she invented known as Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn was a fiction. A mere character role. Norma was not. She was a painfully shy orphaned redhead with a bad speech stutter who was left in movie theatres by a series of neglectful foster parents- which is all it took to plant the seeds she would need to cultivate her own innate gifts & become immortal.

Norma left behind her older sister, Berniece Baker Miracle, whom she provided for in her will & also made her funeral arrangements. In 1994, Berniece co-wrote the only authorized Monroe family autobiography with her daughter Mona Rae Miracle entitled My Sister Marilyn: A Memoir Of Marilyn Monroe.
