I deep down love this film. Like Mike Mills’ other works, it combines good music with dreamy cinematography and outstanding writing. It’s also autobiographical. By the way, every movie under the “Similar Titles” section on this page is fantastic.

Really great HBO Masonic-Gnostic Dust Bowl series that uses archetypes within the period story of bad vs. good. Totally swept under the rug. Hey… Clancy Brown, Amy Madigan, Toby Huss & Nick Stahl- not to mention old school fav Adrienne Barbeau.

….and personal favorite, Michael J. Anderson!

Alien 4 points 1 month ago*.

Hi Rose! Looks like Peter Dinklage and Sam Rockwell are in it, too. It might be good.
Good IMDb reviews. As a matter of fact the director was married to Beals and Parsons.
Although not related to each other, he did cast Sam Rockwell in four of his films. Small world.

snazzydetritus 3 points 1 month ago.

It is definitely worth a watch! I saw it when it originally came out on dvd.

For some reason your comment was removed before I was able to read it.
I wouldn’t and couldn’t watch more than one episode. Thanks, Snazzy.

I got 10 minutes in before I put it on the “possibly watch some other undisclosed time” list. I don’t know if I’m going back!

Hello, not sure why you think Grant is the husband. He’s not. He doesn’t even come into play until episode 3.

snazzydetritus 1 points 1 month ago.

I haven’t watched the show yet, but I have seen the trailer. The reason I said it was Hugh Grant is because I thought Alien wasn’t sure that Hugh was actually in the show, so I was just reassuring.

also barbara - https://www.primewire.tf/movie/288626-barbara came out around the same time as Lore (but about east/west germany). Thank you so much for uploading! I sent the link to friends and family but now they wont let me watch in until we see it in the cinema. a significant film everyone should see. i did sneak the first 20 minutes and it reminded me of an interview with a survivor talking about the complicity of the people in the surrounding villages saying ‘how could they not smell’.

snazzydetritus 4 points 2 months ago.

Barbara is a wonderful film! As is A Woman in Berlin https://www.primewire.tf/movie/62445-a-woman-in-berlin

I am really looking forward to watching this - hope there are some links soon. It is such a paradigm to imagine how this type of world could exist. But it did.

Until this becomes available, a very similar film that will blow your mind (if you haven’t yet seen it) is Lore (https://www.primewire.tf/movie/1247667-lore ).

High Hopes (1989)

Mike Leigh is an artist. This isn’t a plot-driven movie - it’s watching slices of life through a keyhole. But it’s done in such a masterful way, you can’t look away.

I LOVE THIS.

Pushing Daisies (2007)
random000 4 points 3 months ago.

In 2011 there was a big push to revive this. First in DC comic-graphic novel form for the 3rd season, then also as a kickstarter funded mini or film that would wrap up the series properly. Although the comic was heavily promoted, DC mothballed the publishing. No word on the kickstarter film or mini. They wanted more than 10 million though.

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 months ago.

What a shocker - another thing we have in common, loving those Fuller shows! I love Pushing Daisies, but my true love will always be Wonderfalls. Luscious Lee Pace is in that one too. (fanning myself as I scroll through his Instagram photos, incidentally…)

Fargo (2014) S5 E10
motion333 -7 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

biggest let down in a t.v. series i’ve ever seen. wasted an excellent buildup. there needed to be an epic shootout with tons of death blood guts and explosions. THATS WHY WE WATCH FARGO. not for 4 minutes of barely visible shooting and no-one important dying. and wtf was up with slow blinking black screen fades?
for fucks sake at least kill the Olmstead, Karen, Munch, Gator, the two FBI agents and some of the ranch cowboys.
this was a gutterball if i’ve ever seen one. such a shame.

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Maaaan, you have a really boring opinion of what makes a TV show/episode great. “an epic shootout with tons of death blood guts and explosions. THATS WHY WE WATCH FARGO.” — This must be one of the most wrong perceptions of Fargo ever. This show is filled with nuance and things that you must actually think about to fully register. I relish the unexpected, and the unexpected is delivered frequently in this show.

Fargo (2014) S5 E10

That was the best finale episode of all 5 seasons.

File this tidbit under the category of “I spend way too much time surfing the internet”. Roy’s line “If you’re so smart, then why are you so dead?” is almost identical to a 25 yo line from a Simpsons episode in which Homer quips “If he’s so smart, how come he’s dead?”. There was also an episode of the show Psych titled “If You’re So Smart, Then Why Are You Dead?.” How ironic is that someone cocky enough to utter a line like that is rarely as smart as they think they are.

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Yes! I read about the Simpsons quote too. It’s like, “Roy, if you’re so witty with the kill lines, how come you’re using a joke stolen from Homer Simpson??”

This 5th season is stellar. We adore the anthology approach; it keeps it fresh. As for this season, Juno Temple is shining so brightly it is nearly blinding. She really is a terrific actor. Gosh, she’s been in so many diverse roles, and now this. Although, this whole “series” has a stellar cast. This has been so much fun, I know we’ll binge on it again. Thanks for your comment!

I’ve been a Juno fan ever since 2010’s Kaboom. If you want to see an awesome Juno performance, see “Magic Magic” https://www.primewire.tf/movie/1188839-magic-magic (also includes a very different Michael Cera role!)

It’s an anthology series, so each season is a different yet somewhat connected story. I’m so jealous of you…I wish I could wipe my memory of it and watch it all again from the first season. Definitely the best show to come out of television in 20 years.

Disappointing. Mediocre. Badly acted and badly written. I usually like Sofia Coppola. This could have been executed with so much more zeal.

Valley of the Dolls (1967)
random000 3 points 5 months ago.

Probably Sharon Tate’s most popular film. The “dolls” are downers, so we get to see various actresses take a downward turn. Among them are the one & only Lee Grant (Dinah Manoff from Soap’s mom), Patty Duke, and since Judy Garland was fired, Susan Hayward & Peyton Place’s Barbara Parkins.

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 months ago.

So much fun and so gloriously campy, but holy hell, the songs are hideous and annoying. They really scraped the scum from the bottom of the barrel for the musical numbers, which is sort of fitting…and, most punishingly, the songs stick in my head for hours if I even just think of this movie.

It’s one of my personal favorites. If you like this, you will definitely like Peter Greenaway’s other films, like The Draughtsman’s Contract, or The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (a shattering movie).

Carice Van Houten (Melisandre-GoT) & her actual real life sis Jelka in this are adopted out from their biological family. Finally, they pilgrimage to the U.S. to find her in the form of Holly Hunter. Hands down this is a favorite film. ★★★★★

FYI Jelka is hilarious in the second and third seasons of the very funny “Fresh Meat” (https://www.primewire.tf/tv/26520-fresh-meat). I’m going to watch this movie tonight

Meshes of the Afternoon (Short 1943)

Ukrainian Maya Deren was a revolutionary experimental surreal filmmaker admired by David Lynch, Helen Mirren & others. Like Harrington & Kenneth Anger who were inspired by her, she attacked Hollywood & was a gestaltist deeply rooted in Kabbalah practices & also filmed famed novelist Anias Nin. This short is protected by the National Film Registry & the beautiful Maya herself is featured in this film about daydreams.

snazzydetritus 3 points 5 months ago.

I have her collected short films, they are sublime. She was very much into the unconscious, symbolism, and psychology.

Palm Springs Weekend (1963)
random000 2 points 5 months ago*.

Rather fun, it has Boom Boom Bill Mumy before Lost In Space (You’re a bad man! A very bad man!), Dawn Wells as an extra right before Gilligan’s Island, Dick’s brother Jerry Van Dyke (who turned down the role of Gilligan - for which he kicked himself over lots). He plays a non- Scruggs style banjo of Blackbird. The story is centered around a lovely Connie Stevens with a rogue Robert Conrad & also has a rosy-cheeked Stephanie Powers. It’s a cool bedroom style comedy with some dramatic elements.

snazzydetritus 2 points 5 months ago*.

Just watched this myself - it was written by the man who was the inspiration for John-Boy in The Waltons, which he created, wrote and narrated, weirdly enough! If you like this check out “Don’t Make Waves”https://www.primewire.tf/movie/133455-dont-make-waves

Kill Bill: Vol. 3
BladesofTroy 2 points 8 months ago.

Yeah he announced years ago that he was quitting after his tenth film. While it had occasionally been casually discussed with Uma there were never any serious plans to make a third part. Would I love to see one? Yeah sure but it was never a realistic prospect.

snazzydetritus 0 points 8 months ago.

I think he is probably full of caca, whether he knows it or not. A Hollywoodite announces their “retirement” regularly, and then a year later, they jump right back into their career. What is he going to do after he “retires”, anyway? Play golf and count the growing number of polyps in his colonoscopy readouts?

Kept me completely enrapt from start to finish. If you enjoy a revenge-driven Western featuring characters from opposite walks of life being thrown together for a common cause, and aren’t bothered by a little bit of sentimentality here and there, you might enjoy this.

A crazy, disjointed “film”, but notable as it is some of the only comprehensive footage of Edie Sedgwick over time; it should be watched as a documentary, not a narrative film.
Also- toward the end, she allows them to film her having 1960s-era shock treatment.

We can all agree that a certain time in history had its pros and its cons, but when most people wax nostalgic about that time, what they are reminiscing about is their inner experience of that period.
