Trailer made it look so much more fun. Hopefully it picks up, but the first 2 episodes were just okay.

The action was incredible, the suspense was top notch, and the finale was great like everyone else is saying. But I think Jason Momoa’s acting should truly be lauded. That was the best and most realistic war speech ever and he conveyed it masterfully, not to mention his agony and sorrow after his last fight. After watching his movie Sweet Girl, I’ve reconsidered my stance on him as an actor. It’s not his fault for getting typecast as a jock/tough guy; after watching this finale, I can definitely say with confidence that the man can actually act. He’s actually quite great at invoking emotion.

Truth be told there’s a lot of great actors in this series. Tamacti Jun is phenomenal and probably my favorite character because of the actor’s mannerisms. Harlan’s actor is incredible as well, loved him on Sleepy Hollow. Paris, Maghra, Sibeth, and Toad have great actors as well. So is Bautista as Edo. Only Haniwa and Kofun are horrible. Absolute garbage. Wren’s actress is okay. Still, all in all, great casting all around in this show. Can’t wait to see who season 3 will bring.

And they were not afraid to get rid of the existing cast either. Ballsy move, and didn’t feel all that much shock value oriented like Game of Thrones was, for example. I grew attached to a bunch of the ones that were killed off and would’ve never thought they weren’t mainstays. Truly incredible. Next season can’t come soon enough.

Although I do see the Maghra and Harlan romance crap coming from a mile away next season and that’s the only development I don’t care for. But even that, given the setting and circumstances will make for excellent television.

This is easily the best season finale of any show I seen in a while. Expertly done.

Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train (2021)
Alpha_Jam 2 points 2 years ago.

Rengoku is a god. I cannot wait to see the rest of this story unfold. Amazing character and personality development and writing. For a fantasy show about the supernatural, the characters are all very human, and that’s what to me makes this anime quite special. Incredible movie, the rest of the series needs to come out already.

thanks for 8 incredible years, guys. we’re really going to miss you

True that. I feel like they did Charles a lil dirty though. Other than that, it was a great finale. And anyone that watches this show will truly miss it. One of the best.

bleh this was to meh really didnt like it at all nothing came of anything and well just boring

Alpha_Jam 4 points 2 years ago.

Agreed. Season 6 was a horrible cringe fest. They took the damn Devil of all characters, turned him into a whiny housedad, then sidelined his epic saga and used the season to make political statements. This is LUCIFER ffs, not Captain America. I can’t believe this is what happened to these characters in their final ride. Writing was garbage, storyline was garbage, the acting was questionable, and the ending while nice on paper, was executed in a cringe-inducing manner like the rest of this final season. I been with this show since episode 1 aired and this was a slap in the face. Netflix always has to ruin the essence of shows it picks up, but this was a top tier job. They did some things well, but all in all, the characters got their personalities massacred this season.

Gonna miss this show. And the actors. And I’ll remember it fondly. Just as soon as I purge my memory of what Netflix did to it. It was a fun 7 years or so but I’m glad it’s dead now though. I’ll make sure to think back on the earlier seasons, back when the Devil actually acted the part and made an otherwise mundane buddy cop show interesting.

Sweet Girl (2021)
Alpha_Jam 2 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This movie was excellent. This is where I just learned that Momoa can act. I used to think of him as a typical jock/tough guy typecast. I’m glad he’s getting to show off his acting chops with this movie and the See series while maintaining his badass card.

And Isabella Merced was fantastic as well. This movie did so much stuff right. It was suspenseful in all the right ways, emotional, the twist explained so much without being overbearingly obvious (those headscratcher moments before the reveal not her mental meltdown and borderline schizophrenia), and the approach was realistic, barring her fighting abilities. I loved the pacing, and the lead transitional change was emotional yet fluid and welcome.

You can truly sympathize and empathize with the characters and motives. I loved this. Pleasantly surprised. And the action was great, savage while avoiding an over-the-top tone. The hitman was great as well. He had some of the best lines in the movie in the one scene he got to actually speak. Glad I gave this a shot on a whim.

Alpha_Jam 2 points 2 years ago.

I’d love that but doubt it given the events of his last appearance. But a final Halloween heist is a must! And Boyle has to DESTROY them. I can’t wait :D
Hope they don’t skip the heist for the last season. It’s a tradition we love at this point :(

It was a nice alternate reality episode but ultimately not very memorable. Seeing Thanos as a reformed good guy was the best thing about this. Nice dedication to Chadwick at the end, too. Overall, Captain Carter was a more captivating episode. Still, these are made with great attention and incredible animation. Can’t wait to see the rest.

Homicide: Life on the Street (1993) S1 E5
Alpha_Jam 2 points 2 years ago.

The episode that inspired Brooklyn Nine Nine’s “The Box”. Had to see it for myself. Damn this was good. Miss the heavy early 90s vibes shows like this had. Andre Braugher was a hell of an actor even back then. The old man playing the suspect was excellent too. Caught my grandma watching this show a couple times back in the day and kid me found this stuff boring, looks like I missed out.

Yeah, I’ve just realized. Last episode showing here was 12 at the time so I assumed wrong, and now proceed to eat my words :D
Thanks for clarifying this, man.

Fantastic episode, and even the first half filler was filler done right.
But lol at waiting 3 weeks for the finale episode. Do they not like understand how interest, excitement, and hype works? -.-

Loki (2021) S1 E3

Fun episode, but felt too short as a result :(
I wish this wasn’t weekly, the premise is too interesting not to binge watch.

Superman & Lois (2021) S1 E9
Alpha_Jam 2 points 2 years ago.

If only they ditched that whole Lana’s daughter storyline. It does nothing for this show. Aside from that, it’s an awesome show and a good episode. I like the pacing of this show/season. The filler is kept to a minimum. I won’t lie though, there is an overall drop in quality compared to the first and second episodes.

I fear this’ll go the same route of Arrow and Flash; great first season or two until it turns into an annoying drama instead of a superhero show. We had Felicity ruin Arrow, Iris ruin Flash, and I’m guessing it’ll be this stupid little girl of Lana’s that’ll ruin this one as time goes on. Either her or Lois (hopefully not, she’s actually written very well at the moment). Funny how CW forces “empowerment” and “inclusivity” into all their shows by giving a lot of spotlight to characters they end up writing horribly and everyone hates. Intent is nice, but proper execution is vital. Otherwise, it’s as they say: the road to hell is paved with good intentions; and this show will end up in hell and alienating the fans yet again like in the past if they keep repeating the same tired formula. Definitely getting those vibes from the past three episodes.

Hoping I’m wrong about this one and it’ll continue to produce consistent quality and relevant writing for seasons to come. Looking forward to next week after this cliffhanger!

Castlevania (2017) S4 E10
Alpha_Jam 0 points 2 years ago.

This was an excellent final season. Badass from start to finish. As a massive fan of the games, I was extremely satisfied with all of this, aside from Hector’s story deserving a little better. Only thing that bums me out is that it’s only 4 seasons. Epic finale, imo. Maybe we’ll finally get a new Castlevania game, but Konami is run by muppets so who knows?

Without Remorse (2021)
Alpha_Jam 4 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I really hate it when trailers show scenes that didn’t make it into the movie. All that dialogue about the badassery of his character from the trailer, among other stuff, was never in the film. As for the film, it was meh overall. I’ve seen this movie before many times over, and the cinematography, conveyance of emotion, and scene urgency was much better in the others. The characters were underdeveloped, flat and soulless, and I cared very little for the protagonist. Climax was cookie cutter as well. I like Michael B. Jordan, but he didn’t really do much except act like a tough guy with heart, basically what he always gets casted as. All in all, it was a very average B movie flick to waste 2 hours of your life on if you’ve got nothing else going on for yourself today. The entire thing tastes undercooked.

Mortal Kombat (2021)
Alpha_Jam -1 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This was a bad movie. The dialogue was campy, the story was bad, the one liners were cringey, the casting was hit or miss, the acting was iffy, the characters were nothing like their source material counterparts mostly, the action was shakey and unsatisfying, and for a movie about a game that’s all about fighting there sure was a severe lack of actual martial art fights. The fatalities were the best thing about this film. Nothing about this movie sets it ahead of the original except being more modern. This is so disappointing and forgettable. Subzero was the one consistently good thing throughout the movie. They kept hyping it up, and truth be told I was hyped since I’m a massive fan of the games… what a let down. When they reboot Mortal Kombat again in 15 years they should pay attention to ensure there being enough combat to live up to its own name. This movie was completely unneeded when the current MK games manage to tell a much better story, give us actual fights, and provide us with an immensely better movie experience at that. Bad movie is bad. Thanks for reading. Sorry if you were disappointed as well, I feel you. Was really looking forward to this :(

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021) S1 E1
Alpha_Jam 10 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Good aftermath episode. It addresses things we wonder about, like how they make their money when they aren’t saving the world, as well as the psychological repercussions of the battles they wage. Aside from that though, this episode didn’t do much yet. I’m sure it’ll pick up with upcoming episodes though. All in all, decent pilot and I’m looking forward to the rest :)

Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Alpha_Jam 6 points 3 years ago.

Okay, what I’m gonna say isn’t in a DC/Zack Snyder fanboy kinda way; this movie was GOOD. Anyone familiar with those omnibus comic book collections that combine all the comic issues of a particular storyline into one big book? Well, this 4 hour flick is basically the movie version of that. The kid in me that grew up loving these superheroes couldn’t be happier. This was definitely much better than the original version, and felt much more cohesive and epic. Anyone who is a fan of comics owes themselves a viewing, this movie, just like Avengers Endgame, did something truly special for the culture and fanbase. Don’t sleep on this.

The Boys (2019) S2 E6
Alpha_Jam 2 points 3 years ago.

I love how realistic the interactions between characters are. None of that MCU Hollywood filter over the depiction of each and every scene, but instead a very relatable conveyance of how events would most likely transpire among people in a realistic world. The way personalities are portrayed and how they mesh with the others alone makes this a good show in my eyes. Can’t wait for next week.

Hellboy (2019)

I still don’t know if I loved it or hated it. Hopper was a great Hellboy though.
