The Green Knight (2021)

Struggled through the first 3/4 or so but fell asleep near the end, and it might have been better if I didn’t go back to finish it at all. It tried so hard to be artsy, it forgot to be entertaining, and with a 2+ hour runtime it’s borderline cruelty to viewers.

A Classic Horror Story (2021)
AnAngrySalad 1 points 2 years ago.

Many horror flicks are plagued by great starts, just for them to fizzle out near the end, and disappoint. This movie did the complete opposite, and in a pretty interesting way.
It may take some patience to make it to the end, as the film seems pretty generic and amateurish, but the pay-off made the watch worth it. Pleasantly surprised by this one.

Miracle Workers (2019)

Pretty good first season, both funny and had an interesting story. Nearly done with the second season now though, and I’m having a hard time making it through.

Unlike the first season, which had an overarching storyline to tie each episodes antics together, having something for the characters to work towards. The second season has more of sitcom-style of storytelling, where the world remains mostly static, with only minor developments carrying on to the next episode.

It still has its funny parts, and I wouldn’t call it a waste of time, but my interest in the 2nd season is a fraction of what it was in the 1st sadly. Here’s hoping they drop the episodic storytelling for the 3rd, because I’ve otherwise enjoyed seeing Buscemi back in action.

Boys from County Hell (2021)

Damn, that was pretty good. It was a functional horror/drama, but also managed to be pretty funny, without making the movie look like some vampire parody. It actually had an interesting world, and the characters were all great too. Highly recommend.

Good to know. I’ve have started back watching because just because of that so thanks for your comment. I may return. Show does have potential

AnAngrySalad 2 points 3 years ago.

Yeah, I can’t say whether or not the second season entirely makes up for the first yet, but it’s at least moving in a better direction.

Not bad, but damn they seemed to try sometimes. In the first season, I kid you not, half the show takes place in the on-campus bar at the Starfleet academy, and well over half of the shows story, is dedicated to the love-triangles between characters.

However, when it does get around to some sci-fi action, it’s actually fairly interesting. The effects are decent for a sci-fi show, borderline phenomenal by CW standards, and there could be a diamond in the rough in the actual main story, if they can stop distracting away from it.

A few episodes into Season 2 now, and they’ve thankfully ditched most of the campus-life activities, and the petty drama that came with it, so I’m actually pretty hopeful that this series makes a turnaround.

Spree (2020)

Great movie! Not an entirely surprising ending, but the premise of the story is new and creepy. Joe Keery does a great job playing an awkward and attention-seeking “social media influencer”, showing an eerie change in character as he pushes the stunts further and further for views. You’ll definitely second-guess your next uber ride after watching this one.

The Dinner Party (2020)

Definitely bears a strong resemblance to “Ready or not”, just not quite as good.

Into the Dark (2018) S2 E8
AnAngrySalad 1 points 4 years ago.

Out of all the Into the Dark episodes I’ve seen, I think I enjoyed this one the least. I don’t expect this series to be particularly scary or surprising, but most of them are at least entertaining, whereas this one was just kind of depressing, and caused me to cringe in ways I don’t like.

Little Necro Red (2019)

I’ve seen some crappy horror, but this was almost painful to watch. Unless you really enjoy senseless gore and amateurish special FX makeup, then this isn’t for you.

Awoken (2020)

Pretty good horror flick, not breaking the mold on the genre, but with overall decent production value and acting, it at least deserves a one-time watch. 3.5/5

The Lodge (2020)
AnAngrySalad 1 points 4 years ago.

Hard to understand how everything ended up the way it did in this film, the plot seemed forced at times. Some people may really enjoy horrors like this, kind of freaky and a fair amount of suspense, but I found it more depressing than scary. Overall it wasn’t a bad watch though, just not my cup of tea.

Stickman (2017)
AnAngrySalad -1 points 4 years ago.

Better than I expected, which wasn’t a lot, but it was nonetheless a pretty good creature feature. The movie doesn’t break any molds, but it had an okay story with some decent acting and a fairly creepy monster. I wouldn’t put it on a must-watch list, but your popcorn won’t be wasted at least.

Cabal (2019)
AnAngrySalad -1 points 4 years ago.

The acting and production value was on par with a 90’s Work Safety video. A few pretty girls get naked here and there though, so there’s that.

Into the Dark (2018)
AnAngrySalad 3 points 4 years ago.

Really enjoying this series so far! Not usually a fan of anthologies, since I’m not a fan of shorts, but each episode is full movie length and functions as its own standalone film, making me feel more like I stumbled across an entire collection of high quality B horror/thriller movies.

Don't Speak (2020)
AnAngrySalad 2 points 4 years ago.

If the question you’re wondering is, “is this a low budget rip-off of A Quiet Place?”, the answer is a resounding yes.

The Cleansing Hour (2020)
AnAngrySalad 0 points 4 years ago.

Pretty good movie! Utterly ridiculous and silly at times, but still a good little horror, with a unique twist on the whole possession trope.

The Devil's Machine (2020)
AnAngrySalad -2 points 4 years ago.

It wasn’t a terrible movie, but there were a few things that kept it from being a good one. Clearly a low-budget flick, but to their credit, they didn’t go with too many cheesy SFX, and the acting by the 2 leads is passable, though obviously amateur. 2.5/5

The Cleanse (2018)
AnAngrySalad 1 points 4 years ago.

Decent flick with a unique premise. Started with an intriguing setup, but the ending kind of fell flat. I liked most of the characters/actors, but I feel like the film fell short in using them to their full potential.

Ready or Not (2019)
AnAngrySalad 2 points 4 years ago*.

Really don’t see why this isn’t tagged as a comedy, it may have had horror/mystery/thriller aspects, but this movie will probably make you laugh more than anything else. In no way a bad flick though, I actually enjoyed it thoroughly, the ending was quite explosive.

Deadtectives (2019)
AnAngrySalad 3 points 4 years ago.

Surprisingly good watch. If you’re looking for a “scary” horror movie this may not be it, but for a comedy/horror, this had a good mix of both.

Underwater (2020)
AnAngrySalad 5 points 4 years ago.

Not a bad flick. A little bit messy and it had a shotgun start, but there was enough to keep me interested. Kristen Stewart wasn’t exactly stellar in her role, but out of all her films I’ve seen, I’d say I disliked this character the least. TJ Miller probably shone the brightest in his role, despite being the defacto comic-relief, I just wish he wasn’t such a disposable character in horrors. 6.5/10, may rewatch when better quality is released.

Grave Encounters (2011)
AnAngrySalad 3 points 4 years ago.

Grave Encounters has been, ever since its release, one of my favorite “hidden gem” horror flicks. If you enjoy(ed) watching ghost hunter/paranormal investigation shows back when they were popular and understand, like the makers of this film seem to, that all “found-footage” horrors are absolute bologna, then you’ll appreciate this movie for what it is.

A Cure for Wellness (2017)
AnAngrySalad 1 points 4 years ago.

With the potential to be a great film, “A Cure for Wellness”, sadly falls short, and ended up being just a good film. Interesting/intriguing premise, promising a deep story, which it sort of had, but it just ends up feeling dragged-out after about the 90 minute mark. Still worth a watch, but don’t be surprised when you feel like it’s about to end, and check to see that there’s still an hour left. 7/10

Replicas (2018)
AnAngrySalad 0 points 4 years ago.

Pretty good movie, not breaking any new ground though and the end was pretty predictable, but still worth a watch.
Keanu Reeves was typical Keanu Reeves, but I generally enjoy the characters he plays nonetheless, same with Thomas Middleditch. The rest of the cast seemed kind of wooden, but given the whole cloning thing and apparent lack of muscle memory, it was somewhat suitable for the film.
Overall, I would give the movie a 7/10.
