Don’t waste your time

PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

I agree with you! I didn’t even finish the first episode, Cynthia Nixon got on my nerves! I’m not sure which new drama I dislike more, The Gilded Age or Around the World in 80 Days! I expected more from both dramas.

Treadstone (2019)
PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

I do like this drama even though jumping from decade to decade is annoying. I’ve never been fond of Michelle Forbes at all! For a character actor, she is good but always plays the BH. I have yet to see her play a really nice person. I shall go ahead and finish season 1 even though I know there isn’t going to be a another season. If you like Forbes, she is playing her typical BH character in New Amsterdam.

The teeth make-up alone is enough to just pass this by.

PonderThis 1 points 2 years ago.

I lasted about 15 seconds and all I could see was the nasty teeth! Being realistic isn’t always what the viewer wants! I don’t think Dickens intended for his works to be this realistic! Sometimes artistic liberties should take a back seat and this is one of those times. I won’t be watching this….I can’t unsee those teeth. Good night…..I’ll see myself out the door……

Hey all you Outlander fans! The first episode of season six starts tomorrow night! Don’t forget!

Their Finest (2017)
PonderThis 1 points 2 years ago.

For those of you who are Helen McCrory fans, she has a small part in this movie. It may have been the last movie she made. She did the voice of Paula Lindberg-Salomon in the animated film Charlotte. She also did several tv shows until her passing in March of 2021.

After watching this special, I can’t wait for season 2 to start and looking forward to 1932. Sure wish there was a trailer for 1932 that we could watch.

Killing Eve (2018)

It’s back! The 4th season started Sunday and my, Sandra Oh has been busy! She’s also in another show called “The Chair” which I’ve not watched but have heard it’s rather good.

The guy they got locked up, can’t remember the kids name, he’s also acting in Animal Kingdom, which is also a pretty good watch, waiting for the next season of that to start as well. He does rather well in that also.

Noted this as a spoiler just so I didn’t give anything away…

His name is Finn Cole and is 26 years old. Hopefully we will see a lot of him in the years to come.

Man, If Isabella Does not get several awards for what she did in this then something is seriously wrong. She was excellent in this. Just flat out excellent.

PonderThis 10 points 2 years ago.

Isabel May and Tim McGraw both deserve to be nominated for an Emmy! I wouldn’t be surprised if this drama gets a ton on Emmy nominations! Very well written and very believable too! Can’t wait for season 2 and the new series 1932 which follows the Dutton family into the 20th century.

The Limehouse Golem (2017)

This movie reminds me a lot of the short lived drama The Alienist. Both showed a very dark side of the evil that can be committed.

The Book of Boba Fett (2021) S1 E6
PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

Lee Van Cleef who starred in the western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as
Sentenza / Angel Eyes with Clint Eastwood reminds me of Cad Bane (aka, Corey Burton). Both characters were tenacious and refused to give up! I kept expecting the theme song from the movie to start any minute.

A 3 hour tour. Where have I heard those words before?

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one to notice that reference to a 1960’s sitcom.

Trigger Point (2022)
PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago.

Dang! The first episode is intense to say the least. I kept wondering when the unexpected blast would happen! The first episode reminds me of the first episode of Big Sky! You know what you just saw but your mind is saying, “No way, they just didn’t do that did they?” Count on the Brits for making another great drama! We don’t have any tv dramas like this one here in the US. I’ll be binge watching today since the weather is bad where I live and schools and businesses are closed today.

The Book of Boba Fett (2021) S1 E7
PonderThis 7 points 2 years ago*.

Did anyone (besides myself) think of King Kong and the empire state building when you saw that scene?

1883 (2021) S1 E7
irdulili 2 points 2 years ago.

Yeah, I think this might even be a little wilder even than AMC’s Hell On Wheels. It would be cool to see more period dramas set in this time period. The “modern” westerns like the show that spawned this and Justified are great but they’re not quite the same.

PonderThis 3 points 2 years ago.

Oh, man, I forgot Hell on Wheels! I was hoping for another season of HOW. Anson Mount was the perfect actor for his character. His character had faults but tried to overcome those faults. Cut-throat tactics alive and well 19th century and on into the 21st century. The question is how will the new type of western portray the plight of the Native Americans? For years we’ve seen Hollywood’s depiction of Native Americans. Curious to see how 1883 will move forward as they get deeper into the territory where there is unrest. Even in Yellowstone, there is still friction!

1883 (2021) S1 E7
PonderThis 3 points 2 years ago.

I watched a lot of tv westerns because they were my daddy’s favorite. He might have liked this and I’m hoping more westerns make a return to the small screen! These new western are certainly 21st fare! No sugar coating either. The Big Valley, The Wild, Wild West, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, The High Chaparral (starring some really great Latino actors), Wagon Train, The Virginian, and Rawhide starring Clint Eastwood were rather tame compared to the western are now made.

Terrible.
Story: 5
Acting: 4
Science: 2
Believability: 0

on a scale of 1 to 10

PonderThis 5 points 2 years ago.

Well, it kind fits in with the theory that there was more to the moon landing than what we were told back in 1969. Yes, it is hard to believe but this is “fiction”. If you want believability, then don’t watch this type of movie.

FBI: Most Wanted (2020) S3 E12
jeff7777 0 points 2 years ago.

Julian Mcmahon is leaving the show…March 8 will be his final ep, and they will introduce Dylan Mcdermott as the new team leader…!!!

PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

Julian McMahon is the reason I didn’t watch any episodes after watching the first one. I just don’t care for his character….well….to be honest, I just don’t like McMahon at all! McDermott does play a really nasty piece of work on Law & Order: Organized Crime and it will be interesting to see what happens to him in that series so he can take over for McMahon. I’ve always seen him as a “good guy” and yet he can become the disgusting guy and pull it off rather well.

The Gilded Age (2022) S1 E1
CaptKSKS 8 points 2 years ago.

It is entirely period accurate, the snobbishness of the New York Elite has always been more in your face then the quiet stiff upper lip of the British aristocracy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be watching.

PonderThis 4 points 2 years ago.

I hate the snobbishness and not sure if I will continue after this first episode. Downton Abbey was very subtle with the snobbishness, but classism is very hurtful and I’ve dealt with it nearly all of my life. I think Cynthia Nixon is the wrong person for the character of Ada Brook but Christine Baranski is spot on with her character. There is even classism at work with the household staff of both mansions.

The Gilded Age (2022) S1 E1
Alien 0 points 2 years ago.

It definitely doesn’t have the style and elegance of Downton Abbey and the acting from Carrie Coon leaves a lot to be desired. The snobbishness is very in your face, not subtle and well practiced like the Crawley family. It’s all about one-upmanship. I don’t see how family members can stand each other.
I will not be watching again.

PonderThis 3 points 2 years ago.

I agree about Carrie Coon! 23 minutes in and I dislike her character a lot and she is so stiff with her delivery! She’s a better actor than this! So why does it appear she’s struggling with this character? It is a distraction. I remember her vaguely in the HBO series The Leftovers. I think I only made it through 2 episodes and stopped watching.

The 355 (2022)
PonderThis 5 points 2 years ago.

Jessica Chastain caught my attention when she played Celia Foote in the movie The Help. I knew she was on her way up. She portrayed Celia perfectly and it reminded me of Marilyn Monroe. It seems there is always that one movie that sets an actress on the course for fame. Jennifer Lawrence caught my attention in the movie Winter’s Bone….I do believe this got her the role in The Hunger Game movies. Of course every actor has a few rotten tomato movies and these 2 are no different.

The Book of Boba Fett (2021) S1 E5
PonderThis 3 points 2 years ago.

Did anyone notice that Bryce Dallas Howard directed this episode? Looks like she’s following in her daddy’s footsteps, (Ron Howard) and doing a bit of directing. Not sure if this is the only episode she’s directed though.

Going to watch the last episode of season 2 because I can’t remember everything and want to be ready for epi 1 of the 3rd season. I love Sean Bean! He can pull off any character whether it’s a good or bad character!

Currently living in Southern MO in the actual Ozarks, so I had to give it a shot. This is an AWESOME series. I really enjoyed it, and can’t wait for Season 4!
Duuuuuude, that season 3 finale ending though!

PonderThis 1 points 2 years ago.

The story line does take place in the Ozarks, but it is filmed in Georgia. Better tax breaks in Georgia and mostly around Atlanta, Ga., specifically around Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier. I live in NWA on the edge of the Ozarks and it is very pretty in this area.

Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021) S2 E11
PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

It took me awhile to figure out who was playing Sebastian McClane. His hair is different but he still has that same voice…….Robin Taylor is McClane but you may recognize him from Gotham. He was Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin on Gotham. Didn’t like him in Gotham (his character is what I didn’t like) and looks like he plays another despicable character again.

Station Eleven (2021)
PonderThis 4 points 2 years ago.

It took me several minutes to figure out who the adult Kirsten is. If you watched “Halt and Catch Fire” Mackenzie Davis played Cameron Howe in that drama. Since her character isn’t wearing a lot of make-up, I didn’t recognize her right away but she has a very distinct voice and I knew I’d heard it before. I do agree with some that the jumping back and forth in the timeline is distracting but I like what I’ve watched thus far.

JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass (2021)
sobitthen 4 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Gets pretty interesting towards the end, they suspect our own CIA, and share evidence, they did this because JFK was not doing their bidding or starting any wars.. Being lied to by our own intelligence agencies because someone behind the scenes think they should wield the power.. was not aware of the Chicago or other cities where he was going to motorcade through had very similar assassination scenarios in place.. Wish there was something more official, or some way to weed that type of individuals out of places of power.. still so sad thinking back to that day and all the deceit public officials over the years told us about what happened that day..

PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago*.

I have this foggy memory of this day. I was barely 5 years old when he was killed and when Bobby was killed, I said to my mother why are they having another funeral for Kennedy. She said this is for his brother. Over the years I’ve thought that LBJ had something to do with Kennedy’s death. He did some very unsavory things along the way to become a powerful person in Washington DC. By the time I reached junior high school and read about the assassination, I had my doubts of how it happened, bullet from the building or from the grassy knoll. And the perplexing appearance of Jack Ruby. So many questions that may never be answered in our lifetime. And lets not forget Marilyn Monroe’s death and her ties to JFK…..

Good Sam (2022)
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Completely agree with you, the music is over loud and invasive, it plays even when they’re talking making it hard to hear the dialogue. Over-use of music usually implies a weak script with music used to move the narrative along to make up for poor writing. I found GOOD SAM rather dull, poor acting, nothing new and that awful music.. not a good start! I won’t be watching further eps :((x

PonderThis -1 points 2 years ago.

I read an article today about Sophia Bush and I decided right then and there I wasn’t going to watch this drama. I like Jason Isaacs and generally like anything that he is in but won’t be watching it. I was rather surprised they gave this drama a name close to The Good Doctor. Haven’t watched that medical drama either.

And Ken Curtis was also in a band! He began his show business career as a singer in the big-band era, and was a vocalist in the legendary Tommy Dorsey orchestra.

Yellowstone (2018) S4 E10
PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago.

I’m a child of the 1960’s and my daddy loved the tv western Gunsmoke and we watched it every week. One of his favorite characters was “Festus” played by Ken Curtis. He was in his 50’s and was no spring chicken when he was cast as “Festus”. If you’re familiar with Gunsmoke and have watched it, I think Ryan Bingham who plays “Walker” in Yellowstone looks like a younger version of Ken Curtis, aka, “Festus”. Google Gunsmoke and take a look at Ken Curtis’ picture….maybe it’s just me who thinks this. Both were/are fine actors.

PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

Billy Bob usually doesn’t disappoint me (and not because he’s from my home state)and in the 1st few seasons his character was annoying! This final and last season had that classic film noir feel. And how ironic that Billy Bob wasn’t annoying and saved the best of his portraying of William Hamilton McBride to the very last scene. Oh, did anyone notice that Haley Joel Osment was Dylan Zax? It took me until that last courtroom scene to realize who he was.

Goliath (2016) S4 E1

1883 (2021) S1 E2
PonderThis 0 points 2 years ago.

I’m glad I was paying attention! Tom Hanks and then Billy Bob Thornton (he’s from Arkansas) show up. Hanks was in only one scene but Billy Bob will be in several episodes. McGraw’s acting is better than I thought it would be but Hill’s is still a little rough and maybe her acting will improve as the season goes along. I like what I’ve seen thus far and harkens back to the many western tv shows of the 60’s and early 70’s. One difference, the 21st century westerns are more realistic and not so sugar coated.

1883 (2021) S1 E1
PonderThis 3 points 2 years ago.

Sam Elliott is finally looking his age (77) but his looks or age have not diminished is acting ability. No matter what character he takes on, he does it 100% and I do think westerns are his best genre.

Soylent Green (1973)
PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago.

I was in jr high when this movie came out but for some reason I’ve never watched it. Maybe because I was never a fan of Edward G. Robinson and I certainly didn’t like Charlton Heston! The one actor who is still alive is Taylor-Young and I honestly know nothing about her. I have next week off, so maybe I’ll make time to watch this movie and put aside my dislike of Heston.

Dexter: New Blood (2021) S1 E7
RaptorsNineFive 2 points 2 years ago.

It’s humorous to me so many peoople watching stuff today have never experienced the “oh sh*t! what was that? I gotta wait a week!” feeling. Some of the best memories I have are of that type of format & some are recent! Dexter put people on the edge of their seat quite often from 2006-2013.

PonderThis 2 points 2 years ago.

Are you of the age who might remember reruns? If you missed an episode, you could watch it in the summer months as a rerun. Then the VCR came along and you could record a show if you weren’t home and watch it later. Than websites as this one came along and the rest is history. None of this mid-season replacements shows either, shows had up to 20 episodes in one season.

Like the show, but the random episodes using experimental camera shots are rather jarring

PonderThis 1 points 2 years ago.

I was getting a bit of motion sickness from those body camera scenes. I had to look away a few times because of the jerking and bouncing of the camera. Good episode though.
