The Marvels (2023)

Here is my review: The best part of this movie was the after credits scene, sorta. The movie, even though I had a chance to watch it for free, and really tried to finish it, was so corny and boring. I only made it 25 agonizing minutes, then just went straight to the after credits.
No, it’s not because I find Bri Larson annoying. The writing and characters are so one-sided, and just boring.

@Jade, I also don’t get all the hate for this movie or for Brie Larson. I think some people have an issue with her activism and politics. I don’t even know what they are, but I’ve heard/read that. All I ask is that the actors in a film/TV show do what they are paid to do and entertain and try to do a good job of it. I don’t care what they do in their personal life as long as they aren’t purposely hurting others or aren’t being giant dbags because of their fame. She got shite panned in Captain Marvel as well and I thought that was a good movie and she was fine in it and pulled it off. This movie was fine. Was it great like Winter Soldier or Infinity War or Endgame? No, it wasn’t on that level, but it wasn’t bad. A bad movie is WW84. Damn my dame did that movie SUCK. Talk about an atomic dumpster fire of a film. That film makes this film look like an Oscar winning masterpiece. I’m not going to bash Gal Gadot for that. The writers, director, and producers owe us all an apology for that waste of time. At least this film is entertaining.

Redrobotmonkey -3 points 1 month ago.

What activism is Brie Larson involved in? I just see her complaining about hollywood, yet still participating and making money off of hollywood. Also, this comment you wrote above has nothing to do with the movie…

Of course they do, what a silly thing to say. The box office has never been a metric for how good or bad a movie was, only how the audience was feeling at the moment. They’re not the same things. Get that?

Redrobotmonkey 0 points 2 months ago.

It was a bad movie. People didn’t pay to watch it. It did bad at the box office. It’s not a conspiracy. I couldn’t even finish this movie, and it was for free.

Looks promising.

Redrobotmonkey 0 points 2 months ago.

Was so disappointing, low budget crime drama for some reason. Had a great premise, and was executed poorly, gave up after ep 5 or 6, just based on principle. I was promised one thing, and given a poorer, boring, procedural crime show instead.

I have around 500 items in my “plan to watch” and “watching” library and I swear every other day I read the comment section and keep adding more. Like this one… eventually I’ll whittle down my list but not any time soon lol… thanks for the great reviews/recommendations :)

This was bad.Turned into a low budget CSI.

This was the first movie to win a Best Picture Academy Award.

Not much competition at the time.

Predator 2 (1990)
DownrightDebonaire 2 points 8 months ago.

Predator came out in 1987. This came out three years later in 1990 but the opening title card says “1997” meanwhile that synopsis of the film reads: “Ten years after…” I wonder why they advanced it to the future by 7 years. It doesn’t really add to the storyline other than them trying to make this something that occurs every ten years….Not a review or a spoiler just wondering if anyone has any insight production wise why they did that?

Redrobotmonkey 0 points 3 months ago.

They wanted it to be a bit futuristic. Look at the guns the cops use.

Seems to be a slow burn, let’s let it build a bit more. I’m pretty sure they have just barely scratched the surface.

Redrobotmonkey -1 points 5 months ago.

I’m half way through the series (ep 6). It started out so good and intriguing, but goes in a way different direction. TBH I started the show not knowing anything, not even seeing the poster for the show until now. I had no idea, the main character would be who it was. The show has such a weird format and way of writing a story. Almost like a bunch of people wrote certain episodes without consulting each other or having a plan for the whole series. Like broken telephone.

Horror absolutely lends itself to psychological torture as a genre. As does the role of being a female in our society. But, as we all know from the esteemed Mr Monkey’s comments above, that motif SURELY has nothing to do with this film’s “merit.” There’s just no way that that could be one of its central themes. I mean just look at the atmosphere, acting, and direction.
And certainly you wouldn’t be the kind of modern man to think me, a little lady, to expect to hold any kind of equality or standing (certainly not intellectually). That would…what was it…steal my valor if you in any way acknowledge the existence and function of a patriarchy.

Oh lordy.

Spell it out for me. I think Grace is a strong character. You have a problem with that? Why? This is not a personal attack. But I would like to know why I cant think she is a strong character? Why was I attacked for thinking that?

Strawman, followed by plurium interrogationum based upon that strawman; then a definitional failing concerning how direction and acting were not addressed, with a bit of Bulverism; more Bulverism and another failing concerning definition, this one about what constitutes merit; and to this point you’ve managed to compose a dense circulus in demonstrando. The appeal to emotion [funny thing] followed by the psychologist’s fallacy with the end note return to yet more Bulverism, is like shit icing on a shitcake.

Might’ve been better to’ve said that horror lends itself to psychological torture as a genre, but alas: There wouldn’t’ve been as much excuse to publicly dismiss whatever projected hobgoblin made of wtf your understanding is of feminism with that. Better luck next.

Being succinct is the truest form of intelligence. A fake intellectual will go out of their way to say as much as possible to make a point. They think using lots of words will make them sound more important, but in reality, it actually takes more work to use less words to make your point. Your whole post is so cringe worthy. it reads like a 14 year old trying to impress someone with how many words he knows.
You sound like a man who calls himself a feminist(stolen valour). I can’t even think Grace is a strong character? You criticize my views on feminism? You are a fake intellectual. Have a nice day.

I wonder if I’ll ever get to see a single horror/thriller movie that isn’t about some “young, pretty” woman being made helpless, scared for her life, and made to suffer in some way, usually at the hands of a man. It’s like audiences just can’t get enough of seeing “pretty young women” completely helpless, scared for their lives, and made to suffer. It’s so freaking gratuitous.

Redrobotmonkey 0 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Oh lordy, yet another movie to celebrate the Patriarchy. What ever will we do?! It’s as if the atmosphere, acting, or direction of this movie can be completely overlooked, because of our own political bullsh*t. Why judge this movie on it’s own merit, when we can do so with our own bias? The funny thing is, Grace was not a weak character from what I saw, so maybe the bias lies somewhere in you, and your own views on women being helpless.

This is quite literally the worst and most ridiculous “ending” they ever could have written. Why would you KILL a whole planet because you need help?? And WHY would anyone, “alien” or not, have any sympathy for a being that would do that? How the heck did this intergalactic paraplegic get around? Ridiculous and insulting are the only way to describe this completely lazy ending.

Australian Survivor (2002)

Middle of S6 ep. 6 (first season I’ve watched of Au Survivor) and have to admit, I am liking the Au version even better than the US version (and I’m a long time fan of the US version). The challenges all are so consistently more “challenging,” similar but yet noticeably different, than the US version’s, and very well thought out. The production and the editing of the show are top notch. The editing is pretty cool, I’m liking the contestants back stories being shown, the side interviews in real time, and the humor and game play back at camps. And many of the contestants are avidly in it to win it, which makes for an exciting season even early on. I also prefer what they don’t show, to keep you, the viewer, still enough surprised at tribal council and at the vote. The editing is clever and thought out. Also, I do not like when you do not get to see after tribal, who votes what, and so far they’ve shown it. And, the host is just as good as Jeff on the US version. And, the venue, aka island, they are on in S5 is spectacular to look at. And, over all, I think the editing is more balanced out than the US version, so that the viewer gets the whole experience, the social aspects, the relationships, the personalities, the individual styles of game play, the sleeping, cooking, eating, playing, etc. and weather conditions. Whereas on many of the US season’s they’ll focus on some of the aspects and at times actually ignore everything else.
I’m also watching the African version, and well in my opinion, it’s watchable, somewhat enjoyable but has a ways to go, to get my praise.

Damn, I told someone how this was gonna end yesterday, before the episode was released, now what am I supposed to do. This was all so obvious from the start.

Kind of sad there are many questions unanswered and the ending wasn’t bad, it just could have been a lot better. Probably unlucky the books weren’t finished and they didn’t follow the books. Anyways RIP GOT.
