The Apothecary Diaries (2023) S1 E1

This is a really interesting and fun series, excellent graphics and a good storyline. Set in the Japanese emperor’s palace. If you like anime, Japanese history and a good yarn, take a look-see! I really enjoyed it :))x

Love Again (2023)
Birdsforme 2 points 7 months ago.

What a big step down for Sam Heughan.

TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 months ago.

I bet he was really pleased to be able to pay the rent though. When you’re an actor a job is a job, look at some of the crazy parts de Niro has taken over the years, not to mention Bruce Willis! Work = a pay-check, so regardless, i’d say he was pleased to be on set and not on the dole! Thanks :))x

The Continental: From the World of John Wick (2023) S1 E2
dampyiel2200 1 points 6 months ago*.

Compared to the John wick movies. Which this is based of off. What made this so good. I’m not attacking or negating how you feel. I’m just curious. What did I miss? Personally I was waiting for something badass to happen.

TisOnlyMe 1 points 5 months ago.

Sounds like you ought to get out more! :)x

Cannes Confidential (2023)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 8 months ago.

yes but bringing in the random playboy to help the police thing is being recycled here. The only thing missing is a piano and a Devil face

TisOnlyMe 1 points 8 months ago.

Ah, so it’s a derivative of a derivative eh? You see a lot of that these days; they keep re-cycling but seldom as good as the thing they’re copying. I haven’t watched this yet but after what you’ve said, hmm, well maybe a quick look.. i very much doubt it’s as good as early Lucifer though.. that was great up until S4-5 when it started to plummet badly.. sometimes the trick is knowing when to stop eh! Cheers :))x

Another recent Aussie series, this one’s more of a drama/ cop thing. Only 6 eps but worth a watch, i enjoyed it :))x

This recent Aussie series is a real treat, funny, sensitive, clever, interesting.. it kinda has it all, i loved it! Give it a go mate! :))x

Cannes Confidential (2023)
DownrightDebonaire 2 points 8 months ago*.

I was very much looking forward to this show and gave it three episodes, hoping it would fall into it’s own formula. Unfortunately, it never really feels authentic. It feels like someone said hey let’s make a destination show and hired the crew from CSI Miami to film it. The pilot is way too over dramatic and the timing/beats are all off. It stinks of western/Hollywood influence. From the extremely stylized (unnecessary) angled shots from the ground to show the exotic backgrounds to the cheesy one liners with sunglasses.

I was hoping to watch a show where I learned about the location and culture over the course of a season. Instead it’s this trope filled disaster with a mysterious back story about the father that just isn’t attention grabbing. Macdonald & Dobbs, Wong & Winchester, The Spencer Sisters, and DeadLoche are all executed much better, have more than just a single female lead and if you’re not from those countries you learn a bit about their culture and the laws there- they also have plenty of humor and the dialogue is easier to understand because the actors aren’t stumbling their way through rapid fire English dialogue as their 2nd or 3rd language.

It seems like it was made for American audiences but they pumped it full of the formulaic stuff we’re sick of. If you like the first season of Lucifer and the 1st season of CSI Miami look no further than this sloppy mashup

TisOnlyMe 1 points 8 months ago.

The first season of Lucifer was brilliant thankyou very much! :))x

Book of Love (2022)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

I got bored with ‘the Book of Love’ quick enough. It needs a young Hugh Grant to play the feckless Englishman, with a twinkle in his eye. The actor playing the Englishman here has no twinkle sadly. Also it’s a shame there’s no Subs as a lot of the dialogue’s in Spanish. Maybe it gets better later but the lead actor just doesn’t have the juice somehow to make the story credible for me. He has the charisma of a dry twig. Pity, the storyline sounds like fun but it isn’t well realised. Could’ve been better, disappointing :((x

Farmer Seeking Love (2021)

Jess Hutch and Donna Benedicto make a cute couple in this better than average made for TV romance. I enjoyed the story, nothing new but it was a nice way to spend an evening :))x

The Dropout (2022)
jumbopop 3 points 2 years ago.

Pretty entertaining, although would’ve been a lot more enjoyable if you didn’t know the story already.

TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Ah, but that’s the beauty (or not) of TV.. they can change the story to make it more interesting/ or just different if they want to. Just cos you know ‘the real story’ won’t stop Hollywood from spinning the facts any-which-way. She could even end up the heroine of the piece! :))x

Grid (2022)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

I’ve just finished watching ep2 of Grid and enjoying it a lot. It’s compelling stuff, very enigmatic and Korean and tbh i haven’t a clue what’s going on, but it’s really good! I’d like to binge it but it’s coming in weekly chunks so will have to wait till next time to see if i can make sense of it all. Can’t wait! Thanks for posting :))x

Harmony from the Heart (2022)
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Hey, Harmony from the Heart is a typical Hallmark-type production, the usual romantic tosh, same old story. I don’t know why i bother really but occasionally something in these movies surprises you. This one has Jesse Metcalf playing himself as usual, a somewhat repressed musician-type who has difficulty showing his emotions.. same part he’s played in every film i’ve ever seen him in, talk about type-cast! Like i said, the story is predictable and perfect for the Valentine’s Day market. The surprise for me however was the singing and keyboard playing of Jessica Lowndes, i mean she’s Really good, She sings one song towards the end called 11:11, it’s available on Youtube.. sheesh, she has a great voice and it’s a good song too. Anyway, thought i’d mention it cos she’s worth a watch.. but only if you want to sit through a mushy romance as well that is! Enjoy! :))x

Magpie Murders (2022) S1 E1
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago*.

Wow, that was a brilliant, a thoroughly absorbing first episode of this new British drama series written by Anthony Horiwitz. This is a quality production and the type of murder mystery the Brits do so well. I look forward to the rest of the series and to finding out Who-dunnit! Thanks for the upload :))x

Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop (2022)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

Hey, i was excited to watch ‘Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop’ when i realised it had the wonderful Kelsey Grammar in it, but sadly i was disappointed by this rather poor movie. It’s all very British in the way it’s made and might’ve been better in fact if it was set in the 1930s. The story is incredibly thin and i knew exactly what was going on too fast as it’s such a small cast.. when there’s only 5 or 6 protagonists it’s hardly a thriller or a ‘mystery’ when the plot is obvious from the start. It’s a well-made bit of ‘theatre’ like watching an old-fashioned repertory company at work.. not enough substance for a movie though. The acting is somewhat lacklustre and even KG couldn’t lift my spirits. Most of the sets and settings are really old English country-houses around the city of Oxford. some of the interiors are stunning. So if you fancy a rather plodding old drama with great sets, well here you are. I couldn’t help but feel it should’ve been a LOT better. 2/5

Beforeigners (2019) S2 E2
Good Sam (2022)
PonderThis -1 points 2 years ago.

I read an article today about Sophia Bush and I decided right then and there I wasn’t going to watch this drama. I like Jason Isaacs and generally like anything that he is in but won’t be watching it. I was rather surprised they gave this drama a name close to The Good Doctor. Haven’t watched that medical drama either.

TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

I watched S1 of The GOOD DOCTOR when it came out and enjoyed it, but then i watched the original Korean version.. it’s very ‘Korean’ (obv) but SO much better than the US remake. If you can manage the subtitles i’d def recommend it if you like medical dramas :))x

Good Sam (2022)
pwk1653 1 points 2 years ago.

The music for this show really is so bad and ruins the feel for what’s going on

TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Completely agree with you, the music is over loud and invasive, it plays even when they’re talking making it hard to hear the dialogue. Over-use of music usually implies a weak script with music used to move the narrative along to make up for poor writing. I found GOOD SAM rather dull, poor acting, nothing new and that awful music.. not a good start! I won’t be watching further eps :((x

Joe Pickett (2021)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

I read a number of the (many) books by C J Box a few years ago, it’s a lot of stories covering the exploits of Joe Pickett and his family. I wonder how true to the books this series will be? The spectacular landscape of Wyoming should play a leading role as Joe’s a game warden there. The stories are great so hopefully this will be too.. guess i’d better have a look eh! :))x

Encanto (2021)
TisOnlyMe 0 points 2 years ago.

Great visuals and dance numbers in this new Disney animation.. a colourful, foot-tapping confection, not so much a storyline as an enjoyable mini-fiesta.. most of the story is told through visuals and song. It’s not one of Disney’s greatest perhaps but an amazing piece of industrial art nonetheless. Good entertainment, i reckon kids will love ENCANTO!! :))x

Emily in Paris (2020)
Gizmil 6 points 2 years ago.

am i the only one who hated this show? Its just the worst!

TisOnlyMe 0 points 2 years ago.

It’s all a matter of taste though isn’t it? EMILY IN PARIS is a frothy, light entertainment. It’s colourful and frivolous and if that isn’t your cuppa tea, you’ll hate it. Last year season 1 hit the spot for me, something a bit joyful to watch during Lockdown, i loved it. The new season, haven’t started it yet, might hate it this time, who knows? Point is, no-one likes everything, which is why having such variety to choose from here at Primewire is so egalitarian.. there’s something here for everyone though we prob won’t all love the same thing! Vive la difference ! :))x

A Christmas Proposal (2021)

A Very Merry Bridesmaid (2021)
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

More Christmas Romance from Hallmark! This time the snow falls on Emily Osment & Casey Deidrick. It’s not too sickly sweet and there’s good chemistry between the 2 main characters, Ms Osment has a certain fragile sincerity that holds one’s attention. I just like to see snow and the houses these people live in! All very Weddingy and Christmasy if that’s your thang :))x

A Castle for Christmas (2021)
TisOnlyMe 5 points 2 years ago.

A fine wee romance set in bonnie Scotland, in an real castle, all very scenic. Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes star with an enjoyable cameo from Drew Barrymore. Better than the average Christmas movie, perfect if you fancy some festive fare! :))x

The Beatles: Get Back (2021)
TisOnlyMe 10 points 2 years ago.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING.. Peter Jackson has done an amazing job compiling these programmes. Seeing the Beatles at work and creating their last 2 iconic albums from scratch.. it’s like being in the room with them, hearing all their conversations and laughs. My only caveat would be, you kinda have to like the Beatles A LOT and be REALLY interested to spend this many hours watching as the new songs gradually emerge. If you’re not a big fan this might just be boring and overload; certainly this isn’t an ideal introduction to the band for newbies, this is more like the final chapter so best start at the beginning if you don’t already know them well. Myself i’m enjoying this a lot, it’s great to spend time with my childhood heroes even when it is so patchy and grumpy at times. There was still a lot of heart in that room! Well done PJ, loving it so far!! :))x

Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021)

Nantucket Noel (2021)

A new HALLMARK xmas movie.. bit of a yawn-fest actually but it’s set in Nantucket so it gave my brain a brief glimpse of somewhere else! Standard romance formula, all terribly sincere, it was Ok :))x

The Wheel of Time (2021)
TisOnlyMe 5 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Typical big-budget streaming company, spent a fortune on costume, sets, locations and effects but not enough on the script. They don’t tell you where or when it is, what planet even, just here we are suddenly in this magical story which you’ll have to pick up as it goes along.. ie if you haven’t read the books.. well after 1 ep i haven’t a clue what’s happening, not nearly enough dialogue. Still, it’s epic in the sense of budget at least and it’s fantasy and magic so i’ll give it a few eps to see if i can work out the story along the way. With such an epic tale to tell, more of a prologue would’ve helped to set the scene, i mean, i don’t even know any of their names yet.. more info would’ve helped. It looks good though! 3/5 so far :))x

The Canterville Ghost (1996)
TisOnlyMe 4 points 2 years ago.

Patrick Stewart is majestic as the ghost in this re-telling of the Oscar Wilde story. Neve Campbell is also excellent as the young American protagonist. This is a splendid film version, worth watching just to see how beautifully Sir Patrick delivers his lines. A great family movie for anyone interested :))x

Red Notice (2021)
karim 1 points 2 years ago.

Starts well but then it gets silly … epic fail.

TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Yeah, the first 10mins were good, then Ryan Reynolds opened his mouth..that’s when it got silly.! A poor script., many locations but no real depth. Dwayne was his usual good-natured self, but the Reynolds character, SO annoying! It’s very lightweight, not a good result after all the money and time that must’ve gone into making it. Disappointing :((x

Apex (2021)
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

If there’s such a thing as a ‘C’ movie APEX is surely it. Thin storyline, poor script and.. well, you couldn’t really call it acting.. it’s terrible! So terrible it’s almost good, nah but not really! If it had a canned-laughter track it would somehow make more sense. I got about halfway so far, needed a breather, not sure i ever need to go back. Bruce Willis, how the mighty are fallen! :((x

You, Me & The Christmas Trees (2021)
TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

This is one of the dullest Hallmark movies i’ve seen in a long while. The story is very thin, none of the characters have much spark, in the end i couldn’t even see it through to the (no doubt) happy ending. What a pity, and Danica McKellar (she of the expressive eyebrows) is a lovely actress, but the story is without interest. Boring, 2/5 :((x

Sex, Love, and goop (2021)

Charlie Bartlett (2008)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

‘CHARLIE BARTLETT’ is a Brilliant feelgood little movie i’d never heard of till a friend recommended it the other day. The lovely sad-departed Anton Yelchin here with Kat Dennings and Robert Downey Jr.. it’s a film that has a spring in it’s step you could say, good-humoured. Enjoyable :))x

The Doors: Live at the Isle of Wight (2018)
snazzydetritus 3 points 2 years ago.

You lucky dog. This was Morrison’s final performance in Europe. When I watch it, I get this sense from the way he performs that he was just tired. Just ready to stop. It was as if his spirit was broken.

TisOnlyMe 6 points 2 years ago.

It was 1970, a lot of burnout after the 60s! This was also Jimi Hendrix last gig before he died. The festival itself was badly organized and there were a lot of heavy vibes around in spite of so many great acts playing, big security presence. This weekend felt like a turning-point for the whole scene, it certainly changed my Life! https://www.primewire.li/movie/253086-watch-message-to-love-the-isle-of-wight-festival

TisOnlyMe 1 points 2 years ago.

Popcorn philosophy, another Pixar saccharin puke-fest.. Disney fluffy pink heaven, SO righteous, make me very angry! Just the story of the guy playing jazz was all i wanted but they had to make a point and go all preachy.. Yeuch, anodine, nul ponts! :(((x

Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (2003)
TisOnlyMe 3 points 2 years ago.

This youthful movie has a ‘Back to the Future’ vibe to it, maybe not surprising as Bob Gale the director of this also co-wrote that.. also there are cameos here from both Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The two movies are definitely related in style too.. like i said, it’s youthful, it’s fun, an enjoyable watch if you feel like something light and entertaining. I just saw this listed and re-watched it for the 3rd time i’d say, not too bad on a rainy Sunday nite in October! Cheers! :))x

Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (2021)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I’m sure the book is much better. I was planning to read it anyway.

I think the fault may be the director’s though since none of the other characters really had much personality/charisma either except the main security guard imo.

TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

No, the book ISN’T any better, that’s what i’m saying! Personally I found THE LOST SYMBOL to be unreadable but by all means give it a try, i’m sure you’ll find boxes full of it at your local thrift store! :))x
