All of Us Are Dead (2022) S1 E7

I wish I hadn’t enthusiastically recommended this show to so many people after viewing the first few excellent episodes, because the past couple of episodes have been pretty abysmal. In addition to the usual horror trope of people doing insanely stupid things at the worst possible moment (such as a cop who has the Most Important Information on the face of the Earth deciding to stop along his quest to deliver it to the People In Charge, try to help every random stranger in need), the writers have also decided to focus HEAVILY on the high school romance angle. Even if I ever cared about who likes who and about someone who didn’t realize someone else close to them “likes” them like them, now is NOT the time to try to focus on teenage love. The other negatives are starting to add up for me as well, the main one being people standing around staring at the chaos in awe, when instead they should be running for their lives. There’s also the “mad scientist” who knew what he was doing but didn’t care about the consequences, the hero first responder who’s gonna journey through Hell and risk life and limb to save his kid (obviously Dwayne Johnson or Liam Neeson will play this role in the Hollywood adaptation), and general political ineptitude… OK, that part I can believe.

What started out as something refreshing and new-ish, a show that had a humorous self-awareness about Accepted Zombie Truths, has turned into another trope-abusing yawnfest that I’m mainly continuing to watch because of sunken costs. I’ve already invested this much time, might as well see how it ends.

Started out an 8/10, the last couple of episodes have dropped it to a 5/10, maybe even a 4/10. I dunno what the future may bring, but it’s hard to redeem these flaws.

Ultraman straight up commits genocide against 60 billion lifeforms in this episode. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Hard to give this a rating, as I only made it about a quarter of the way through the film. It moves very slowly, and the are seemingly unnecessary time jumps that make making sense of anything somewhat difficult. Sometimes it jumps a few days ahead or back, sometimes it seems to jump years ahead.

All I know is that it seemed not worth it to continue. There’s so much content out there that it was obvious that there was no point in wasting time on this. From what I did watch, I’d give this 2/5.

Squid Game (2021) S1 E9

Such a disappointing finale. The writing after the first 10 minutes was horrible. From our guy being in a complete rage, to his not being able to complete the game a minute later. Then, after he won anyway, he seemed to have a complete mental breakdown. He was walking around in such a complete haze that I was wondering if he was going to fail to do the two things he promised to do: get the kid out of the orphanage and hook up the fish stall lady. Him getting Korea’s worst haircut imaginable did not do anything to help raise my confidence in him.

Money or no, his daughter is better off without him at this point.

This episode is ridiculous. Hits you right in the emotions, and not in a cheap way.

Squid Game (2021) S1 E4

Weakest episode so far, and it was still fantastic. What a great show.

Squid Game (2021) S1 E2

Second episode is nearly as good as the first, even though they don’t play any games. It shows more about the players’ lives and actually gave us a reason to care about them.

The main guy in this was such a complete a-hole that I was HOPING something horrible would happen to him.

DC's Stargirl (2020) S2 E9
_forever 2 points 2 years ago.

I swear, everything directed by this Andi Armaganian person has been the slowest-paced episodes of the season. I don’t think it’s the writing, as it would be too much of a coincidence that Andi keeps getting the worst scripts every time.

These episodes are painful to sit through.

Great show! Really good way of getting out of streaming

Lost the story, but the action made up for it!

Don't Breathe 2 (2021)

The best part of this film is the way Norman uses the bad guy’s own dog to track him down. Phoenix is kinda cool too. Everything else is a bit contrived. From the bad guys showing up at his house with enough force to take down a well-armed street gang, all the way up to how they were planning to do a heart transplant with two conscious patients in a dirty hovel, not much seemed the last bit plausible. I do like how they sorta explained how inept the bad guys were by implying they were probably using some of their own product. All-in-all though, this was still watchable. 2.5/5 for me.

Awful episode. Bad writing, horrible directing (what’s up with all those long, lingering shots?). I’m sure all the myriad of plots and subplots will start to make sense throughout the season, but if this was the first episode I’d ever seen of this show I wouldn’t watch another. Keeping my fingers crossed that this season will be at least 3/4 as good as the previous one.

How did you find this predictable i thought the twist was well exuctued i think you’re kinda wrong on this one bud, like it’s not going to win any awards but its a decent flick non the less..

_forever 1 points 2 years ago.

I’m guessing it was ‘predictable’ to him because the trailers have away so much, including the twist. This film is one of the reasons I tend to avoid trailers a bit, they’re too spoiler-y these days. I’d suggest ppl avoid trailers it they want to go into movies fresh.

I thought this was interesting and definitely worth a watch if you like beat em’ up movies. They tried something different, which you gotta give them credit for. 3.5/5 stars.

I will say that the one car chase scene was better and more realistic than anything I’ve seen in any Fast and Furious movie. haha

Spy (2015)
_forever 1 points 2 years ago.

I can’t believe it, I actually found a Melissa McCarthy movie that I actually like! First time for everything I guess.

This film was really good. Jason Statham helps out A LOT with that, as does Rose Byrne and Miranda what’s-her-name. I’d give this a solid 4/5 stars.

Happy Death Day (2017)
_forever 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I’ve gotta say, at no point in this movie did I care one bit about Tree. She spends the first 2/3rds of the movie bring a completely unlikeable person, and then only becomes halfway decent in the third act mainly as a means of self-preservation. I will say though, that she had some truly remarkable reaction time. Anytime the killer was about to strike, she used her catlike reflexes to escape the initial kill attempt. Whether it was dodging knives or bullets, she was a welcome change to movies where the potential victim(s) stand around for precious life-saving seconds looking dumbfounded while waiting for an attacker to make their move.

Overall, I’d give this a 3.5/5 for successfully recycling Groundhog Day’s plot and enhancing it with a murderous theme.

The Marksman (2021)
_forever 1 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Good watchable movie. The only parts I really didn’t like was how Liam couldn’t figure out to stop using his credit card while traveling, and technically he kidnapped Miguel so the cops and feds should have been after him in force. And I couldn’t figure out why the head of a cartel didn’t have more manpower at his disposal.

EDIT: Oh, and Liam had a bag full of cash available.. so why didn’t he but a new car when he knew the cartel guys were on the lookout for his beatup old truck? A truck which predictably broke down at the worst possible moment.

This was a pretty funny short film. No links here but can be found on YouTube on the Omeleto channel.

Attack the Block (2011)
_forever 1 points 2 years ago.

Probably my 10th time watching this movie. So I guess you can that I like it, a lot. It’s very quick and well-paced, with the action and comedy starting off full-tilt within the first few minutes. The story isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s solid and here it plays out well. Add in Nick Frost, a reformed Stormtrooper, and a Dr. Who and you’ve got a recipe for an easily rewatch-able sci-fi/action/comedy. 8/10 for what it delivers.

Rick and Morty (2013) S5 E2

Thinking about this episode in the greatest scheme of things… this might be the best one ever! I love an episode that can overwrite all the other episodes. What’s really hood, bitch?? I mean, what’s really real if your entire existence might not be real?

Obligatory: Summer, you bitch.

4 episodes in and I’m hoping the show will get better. I’ll give it another couple of episodes.

Such a great movie, even if it was a heist film. Grampa Rick hates heist films.

I knew the movie would be bad, but I didn’t know it would be THAT bad.

Game Night (2018)

The first 10 minutes of this movie was funnier than any other entire movie I’ve seen this year (2020).
