and your point is..?

That as a female doctor who is mistaken for a nurse at least five times a day every day and whose medical and scientific opinions are regularly discredited owing to me being female I’m really tired of how people assume that brilliant doctors and scientists are male and not female, and shows like this only help perpetuate that mindset?

And yet again of course the brilliant scientist/doctor is male…

I wonder if I’ll ever see a horror or thriller story that isn’t about some “hot and pretty” young woman, who ends up being made completely helpless, scared for her life, and suffering, usually at the hands of a man. It’s so gratuitous. It’s like writers just can’t get enough of seeing women completely helpless, scared for their lives, and suffering. Can there please be a single horror or thriller that isn’t about this? (Incidentally, for those who are going to reply with “I don’t think she’s pretty/sexy,” that’s not the point. The point is that clearly effort had been made to depict a woman like that, as opposed to just using any woman of any age and any appearance).

Dreat mid-90’s show I had almost forgotten about. Thanks uploaders.

The show was actually based on a comic book which you might still be able to find somewhere; but I do miss Mtv Oddities!

Of course when there’s a story about a female who has a high-ranking position, they always have to make this point that SHE’S THE ONLY FEMALE EVER TO DO THIS, FOLKS! They won’t let you live down that FEMALES DON’T GENERALLY ACHIEVE THINGS AND THIS IS AN EXCEPTION! Because you shouldn’t ever be satisfied that a female can achieve stuff, you have to remember that SHE’S THE ONLY ONE!

For women to be important in shows they always have to be young and pretty. Wake me up when there’s a show/story/movie where women are important when they’re middle aged or older - you know, like how men get to be important in shows and movies when they’re middle aged or older. Every woman will become an older woman. This just reminds us that we all get tossed in the trash when we’re no longer something that males like looking at.

And of course a always the doctor is a man… as a female doctor who is regularly mistaken for a nurse I’m really tired of how people always envision doctors as being male…

Boys Love (2006)

They guys were hot, the male semi-nudity was very nice, but the story itself felt like it was written by a teenager. Just full of gratuitous over-the-top angst and shock value. Rape? Check. Jealous stabbing? Check. Shouting and screaming? Check. Maybe if I were sixteen I’d have appreciated this more, I do love BL in general.

As always, the brilliant male scientist/doctor and the helpless vulnerable female victim, so tired of seeing this over and over. How about make the female the brilliant scientist/doctor and the male the helpless vulnerable victim?

Star Trek: Picard (2020) S1 E3
BTamBourin -1 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Seriously, she’s vaping and she’s a drunk. And she’s mad at Picard for standing up to the Federation when they wouldn’t help the Romulans? What am I missing here? I kinda hate this chick.

blueskies223 -11 points 4 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The same writers created both Picard’s character in this show and “this chick’s” character. So it’s pointless to hate one and like the other. The writers are just misogynistic so they made the female act in their stereotype of “the unbearable shrill female,” and you’re misogynistic for hating the female instead of recognizing that the writers are biased.

A Serbian Film (2010)
blueskies223 -5 points 4 years ago.

Do not watch this film for your own sanity. You will not feel happy after watching it. Trust me. You will feel bad and the bad feeling will stay with you for a long time. Not talking about whether or not this should be banned, but just out of personal experience, trust me when I say that it’s not worth it. I know that giving a warning like this is only more likely to make people curious, but this isn’t one of those cases where curiosity gets you to watch something scandalous or bad or something, I mean this will genuinely leave a bad feeling in you that you will not be able to shake for a very long time. You will not feel good.

The Kids Menu (2016)
blueskies223 -4 points 4 years ago.

They make a movie about it and they STILL don’t know where the apostrophe goes… it’s really astounding how difficult it apparently is for people to grasp an elementary punctuation mark. It’s “kids’ menu” - because it is a menu for kids.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
blueskies223 -5 points 4 years ago.

I wonder if I’ll ever get to see a single horror/thriller anything that doesn’t boil down to “pretty young women” being made to suffer in some way at the hands of a man. It’s so freaking gratuitous. It’s like horror or suspense are never about anything else. Writers just enjoy so much fantasizing about situations where pretty young women are being made completely helpless and suffering at the hands of a man who has complete control. Every. Single. One. of them boils down to this, no matter the movie or the rest of the plot.

my first impression of this was…. i tried to watch it got more and more stupid and like a retarded musical. not even a documentary or anything, thought it would be like his life but its all just not true and a musical and not even a good one in my opinion, but, would have to be GAY to like this movie if your a guy or just plain bored and like gay musicals, some are good but this one…. im good ill pass

Funny how there are gratuitous lesbian moments on prime time TV and every other movie and no one bats an eye, but the extremely rare movie would depict a relationship between two guys and butthurt morons like you would cry and sulk about it— like you can’t even endure the tiniest bit of m/m depiction while of course having no problem with the extremely gratuitous, ubiquitous lesbian garbage that’s out in every other movie you see. I didn’t even like this movie (for other reasons) but your comment is just so sulking and outright stupid.

Rocketman (2019)
blueskies223 -5 points 4 years ago*.

Velvet Goldmine did it better, more beautifully, in a less corny way and with less misogyny and butthurt— all while Velvet Goldmine was technically a fictional story while this one was biographical. This movie was just so… corny and hokey and sulking. And I say this as a big lover of Elton and of glam rock on the whole. Forced myself through this film though I could hardly endure all the extremely gratuitous female nudity and objectification, it was so unnecessary and a really skewed depiction of reality. Even with the gay male relationships there wasn’t a single male in this movie anywhere near as objectified and fetishized as countless females were. And ofc they always demonize the mother and make her look like the sterotype of a horrible witch - even though mothers invest so much more into parenting than fathers and have it so much harder. It’s clear that this wasn’t a depiction of the way his mother actually was; rather, it was yet another one of countless stereotypical depictions of the “horrible witch mother.” Mothers are always demonized. It’s just so sulking.
