A Quiet Place (2018)
booger 1 points 1 month ago.

Fairly standard movie, entertaining in a slow and dramatic way. The acting was good, the cgi monsters excellent (the cgi kid not so much) the overall story was, while slow, good.
The gimmick of “silence” was a novel approach to old ideas but it gives you time to notice all the little flaws and foibles and wonder wtf?

Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not.
Both are equally terrifying. - Arthur C. Clarke

Rebel Moon (2023)
booger 1 points 2 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The Good : The Special Effects were really good, from the cgi ships and backgrounds to the practical makeup and prosthetics and more, all of it was great. The costumes and set dressings were rich and full of life, hinting at a real lived in world with more to say. The minimalist way of storytelling with mostly essential scenes and few lingering dramatic ones that go on too long and add too little. The acting was good and solid for the most part.
The Bad : The whole sequence where she (Kora) talks about the “super special princess” and the gathering of her warriors looked and felt like a mid 90s to early 2000’s T.V. show and with trope after trope being strug together in a rather boring fashion. I didn’t mind the tropes in and of themselves it was their lack of personality like a well executed technical dance scene but with no passion or inspiration. Also some of the music was ill timed and did not fit well.
The Ugly : All of the fight scenes were choreographed (of course), a couple Looked choreographed which is bad, but a few of the shots during the final 1v1 fight not only looked choreographed but were poorly done which was ugly. And of course the ugliest, suspension of dis-belief is one thing but can anyone actually expect us to believe that a piece of poity metal could pierce the protective bubble around a side gunner? A piece of metal not propeled to hyper velocity by an exploding ship in the void of Space, but by a human (enhanced or not) with their own hands And that the entire ship was slaved to that one control stick without any Driver Safety Devices whatsoever! seriously can’t wait to see what cinema sins has to say about it. fyi: The OG DSD known as a “Dead man switch” has been around since the !890’s just sayin’.
That scene in the beginning whith the vagina shaped portal and funny shaped space ship, it wasn’t ugly enough to really be included here but it was stupid looking.

Escape from New York (1981)
booger 1 points 2 months ago.

Still a good movie after all these years. Set in the grimdark future of 1997, this simplistic and straight forward film tells its story with style, “B” movie style to be exact. Chock full of veteran actors who play their parts well and a story that never tries to be over ambitious with sfx that are not too over done. Watch it, you Will be entertained.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One (2024)
booger 3 points 3 months ago.

Starts off seemingly slow but it packs a lot into the 90 minute runtime. Another very good DCU animated move that is well worth watching.
Excellent voice acting with good dialog and sfx makes this worth hearing and the art style(s)? of the animators makes it worth watching.
Total action junkies might find it a bit boring until they become engrossed in the story.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One (2024)
stratomaster 2 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Are we just ignoring the glaringly obvious similarities between this and Infinity War? I don’t know which story actually came first, and I definitely enjoyed this as I do all of DC/WB animated movies, but c’mon….Monitor is Thanos…the people dematerializing… the gathering of all the superheroes to fight it… There is so much source material to draw from than to be ripping basic ideas.

booger 2 points 3 months ago.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” (DC) storyline began in ‘85 while the “The Infinity Gauntlet”(MC) (1st in a trilogy) storyline began in ‘91 and both preceded by “Secret Wars” (MC) in ‘84.
All with a similar type story elements, multi-verse/fate of the Univers/fighting extremely powerful beings etc.
These are just a few of the popular storylines from comics that are similar to, if not complete rip-offs, of other comics and I have no doubt that there were many others both before these and after.
All the original stories were told long ago around a campfire to people using sharpened sticks and bones for tools and weapons.

Mindwarp (1992)
tardisrider 2 points 4 months ago.

no this was 92 matrix was 99 js

booger 2 points 4 months ago.

You mean some obsessed fan thought that if time travel was possible they could go back and shop their own script around and sell it for a bundle. So they spent years, decades even, of their life dedicated to inventing a time machine, finally doing it and traveling back only for this movie to be the end result? That’s both Diabolical and tragic.

Mindwarp (1992)

Pretty decent movie, the writing and dialog can be lackluster, but the basic premise is solid, it’s a wonder no one has stolen it.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023) S1 E2
booger 1 points 7 months ago.

Again a decently entertaining ep. with poor writing or maybe poor directing being the major detractor.
felt even more like a kids show

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023) S1 E1
booger 1 points 7 months ago.

I enjoyed the episode, the acting was as good, the sets were mostly perfect, but the writing is horrible, unless this is supposed to be a kids show or something.

The Machine (2023)
booger 3 points 10 months ago.

While I didn’t find it as funny as the “Stand-Up Routine” by the same name, it was still a great time from start to finish.
Like every good stand up comic Mr. Kreischer understands how to tell a story and the importance pacing plays.

Point Break (2015)
booger 1 points 10 months ago.

At least the scenery is beautiful.
It starts off fairly well, developing the “Utah” character and his motivations but quickly slows down into scenes where a couple of the actors talk about Life, The Universe and Nothing, which is briefly interupted with scenes of “Extrme Sports” and random acts of eco-terrorism? i think.
Overall it’s boring, lacks defined characters and is just poor storytelling

Extraction II (2023)
booger 1 points 10 months ago.

Overall a good action flick that paced itself well and told a compelling story inbetween explodey bits.
I don’t usually go for foreign language films but there was enough english to get the gist of things somewhat.
This is a much darker movie compared to the first, everything is subdued from the humor to the action to the dialogue so expect pithy one-liners but not the bright shiny laughter or smiles.

Sarah Silverman: Someone You Love (TV Special 2023) (2023)
booger 7 points 10 months ago.

Another excellent stand-up from a very funny person.
While not her best routine the smile never left me once.

Fast X (2023)
booger 1 points 10 months ago.

Don’t Worry !!!! THIS Is A Movie Review !!!!
If you like entertainment watch this movie.
With a bevy of veteran actors reprising their roles from past FF projects and newcomer Momoa (new to the franchise) giving us a fun and psychotic, yet, relatable Bad guy the acting is everything you need for a good story and more.
And yes of course there is plenty of vroom vroom, bang bang, and explodey type stuff to keep folks who enjoy it happy but not done in a way that takes it out of PG-13 territory.
Overall another entertaining story told well and good.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
booger 7 points 10 months ago.

Mediocre all around for this one. The acting was decent at times but mostly it felt perfunctory and hasty.
The storytelling was boring and unimaginative along with the visuals. Had this movie come out in the year it was set, it would have went straight to DVD and would have been in the discout bin within a month or two.

The Portable Door (2023)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

This is a wonderful children’s film with just enough “meat” to interest older kids and parents.
With a simplistic yet entertaining story supported by an excellent cast and decent SFX this movie can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

U-Boat Wargamers (2023) S1 E1
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

I remember someone talking about how important this wargaming thinktank was to the war effort back then and how they accomplished their task and found it quite interesting.
I believe it was a youtuber named “Lindy Beige” and I seem to remember him having a decent “scholars triangle” also.

Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham (2023)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

Not bad.
While the comics this “alternate universe” batman movie was based on did a better job of capturing the Lovecraftian “feel” it still tells the story very well and is quite entertaining throughout.

Lockwood & Co. (2023)
CaptKSKS 2 points 1 year ago.

I would have though mail would have been used as it is relatively light and would provide a measure of protection to almost anyone; definitely a plot hole but not one that kills the suspension of disbelief for me, maybe a second season could address it.

booger 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I agree that the lack of proper arms and armor does not completely suspend disbelief, entirely, but it does leave some glaring plot holes.
Like if the only ones capable of effectively combating are children up to a certain age And they have been doing it for 50 years why no armor at all, don’t these people care for their children?
Chain mail sure would provide a lot of protection and it would not be necessary for it to be as heavy as traditional combat mail with ghosts not being armed, heck, you could just impregnate cloth with a silver and salt solution probably (maybe that’s what those outfits are like but they never mentioned) and make goggles out of silvered glass etc; etc.
There are lots of things that should have been thought of and implemented after 5 decades of fighting is all I am saying.

Lockwood & Co. (2023)
booger 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Despite its flaws this series is rather entertaining.
The things I like about this show is one: the location(s), they are fantastic and beautiful two: The acting, Most U.S. shows about young adults have actors that have been chosen for their sex appeal first and ability (if any) secondary at best.
What I dislike most is their obvious poor choice in arms and armor, sure someone was consulted about how to use the weapon involved but forgot to ask If it should, while weirdly not using any armor at all.

The Last of Us (2023) S1 E3
booger 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

While this was a beautiful episode that did a deep dive into the lives of a pair of characters that have a substantial impact upon the characters Joel and Ellie and their journey across post-apocalypse America, it does very little to advance the story overall.
I do like developed characters in my stories but to spend the majority of an episode to entirely flesh out characters unto their death seems like the typical “padding” U.S. shows have become known for.
They could have easily reduced the whole romance thing down to the few minutes they gave the actual story and expanded the storyline by an entire episode, just sayin’.

Tulsa King (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

A good show with some funny scenes (I was hoping for more humor) and some dramatic scenes (some even believable) interspersed among scenes where the main character steals, lies and cheats (aka acting like a mobster) their way to riches undeserved also known as being a mobster/criminal/scumbag.
While I enjoyed watching this for entertainment it glorifies scumbaggery and makes the victims seem grateful for having this leach suck them dry.

The Rig (2023)

Meh.
A lot like “The Happening” by M. Night Shyamalan but slower paced and more boring.

Army of Thieves (2021)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Fairly decent movie that is entertaining (at times) and possibly close to being next to adjacent of almost near brilliance (somewhat) or it would like to be anyway.

The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Researcher 2 points 1 year ago.

Well said, booger!
[Now, why can’t I stop looking at my fingertips?!! My nose is itching!]

I’ll admit I went in with much skepticism, given all the hullabaloo about the Witcher-verse. But I watched all 4 episodes and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t overwhelmed with woke-ism, which nowadays is rare. And, as booger stated above, scenery/sets/wardrobe/makeup/CGI/action was a solid 3 out of 5 for me.
Not a bad watch and, dare I say it…wouldn’t mind a s2…there I said it!

booger 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Don’t think there will be a 2nd.
The whole point of the mini-series was a god (or whatever) wanted a lost story to be told again so it could inspire the folks in the current Witcher series timeline. But I could easily be wrong.
Personally, I prefer to skip all the hype if possible, I watch the trailer and sometimes sift the comments but only briefly, your mindset going in to a thing has an effect on your perception.

Freaks of Nature (2015)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

Funny.
It’s been awhile since I have seen a parody movie this good. Making fun of both teen and monster movies/tv series from the 80’s to today there is something here for everybody to laugh at.
Grab a friend, watch and enjoy.

The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

Pretty good mini-series overall. Likeable and relatable characters, a clear and defined story, with beautiful scenery and well executed cgi, makeup, sets, clothing, et cetera were combined well and filmed. By no means a masterpiece but very enjoyable.
This is a very efficient storytelling style and one I appreciate after so many American style series where they “pad out” their seasons to match the number some clueless exec came up with.

The Winchesters (2022)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

Unfortunately I am dropping this show after 7 episodes.
The originating series had a good balance of action, drama and story progression this focuses mainly on the drama with brief and infrequent breaks of action and story as if in afterthought.
It does not include “action” in the “genres” for a reason.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned (2022)

Not nearly as good as the first (a box office flop) it does still have some entertainment value, not much, but some.

Accident Man (2018)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Loved it! After watching the 2nd in the series I had to see this and I was not disappointed!
A straight up Entertaining movie! Simple plot and great fight scenes with just enough background and story line to keep it moving without bogging it down.

Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Very funny! I enjoyed watching every minute of it.
It parodies movies like John Wick and the Bond films while being its own movie and not just a series of vignettes… I loved it!

The Winchesters (2022) S1 E3

That narration thing they did with this episode was really annoying….

That is for the seeing impaired and not present on all copies.

House of the Dragon (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Just finished the season ending 10th episode and I can’t wait for the next episode, problem is, that none of the other eps. made me feel this way.
The 1st 5 eps. were ok and even started to become interesting but suffered from too much……. pageantry, I guess. Long slow scenes where folks paraded around in exotic finery or sat around talking about how important they are etc; with an occasional fit of murderous rage thrown in which continued into the rest.
After everything is all said and done, I just don’t care enough about any of the characters to want a second season, honestly how is anyone supposed to care what happens to a bunch of self absorbed, incestuous, homicidal lech’s?

Hellraiser (2022)
booger 0 points 1 year ago.

Decent acting, decent dialogue and decent plot makes for a decently average movie.

As far as the series goes this is not the worst of them, however, if they were trying to reboot, then they failed.

The Winchesters (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Not bad! Decent acting, familiar storyline, good fight scenes (if brief) with plenty of character development.
If it can keep it up like this, I will continue watching.

Love the way it starts out mirroring the original plot.

Bullet Train (2022)

Super Silly, Super Serious, Super Entertaining!
I don’t understand people who think cinema is for anything more than a momentary distraction from what is really important (rl) but hey, to each their own.

The Munsters (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Overall this is a “meh”.
I could see what he was going for and some of it was really good and some was really good in a campy 60’s way but mostly it just felt like a small town theater production with a big budget and bad direction.
1 extra star for the actor playing “Herman”. good job

The Walking Dead (2010) S11 E17

It has been awhile since TWD was this good.
Plenty of action, adventure etc; watch it

Prey (2022)
booger 4 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

What a wonderful addition to the Predator franchise. Great acting, storytelling and character development and more than enough action to satisfy.

A sorta “coming of age” meets Scifi action thriller where you have the heroine seeking to become a hunter (and not the medicine woman her mother wants her to be) by killing a large prey or predator animal who crosses paths with a “Predator” who is basically trying to do the same thing, just with better weaponry.

THE PREY: Legend of Karnoctus (2022)
booger 1 points 1 year ago.

Really fun creature feature/war/heist film. Low budget and full of dated dialog and actors this could have been a total cheese fest but the physical FX coupled with solid performances and sheer style makes for quality entertainment.

Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill (TV Special 2022) (2022)
booger 0 points 1 year ago.

It was a shame that this was filmed in front of a fearful audience because the first few acts were on Fire! and they did not get the support needed which left the other comics nervous and that showed up in their acts.
TLDR
Lots of funny material was on offer but folks preferred to laugh at the “safe” jokes.

The Princess (2022)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

A novel approach to a classic medieval film trope where a royal must take back/defend/rescue a princess from an evil war-like warlord/noble who thinks might equals right.
Great story, non-stop action, a bit of adventure and satisfactory ending.
Watch and enjoy, it’s a great ride.

Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks (TV Special 2022) (2022)

Just Bill doing what he always does, speaking truth and calling out people on their hypocrisy, telling folks it is ok to have opinions of your Own (even when they’re dumb), and trying to work out anger issues stemming from his childhood, all in all a standard Bill Burr standup routine.
