Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S5 E4

Not much to do with the quest but for a filler episode it was ok. The “bug” is a stupid plot device on the same magical level as the “spore drive”. Lazy writing but executed well.

Well it took them 7 years to figure out how to get a season started. Finally a clear quest from the beginning.

It sucks big time, fight scenes look like they are recorded with GoPro camera

ct451 2 points 1 month ago.

I think they did that on purpose. Apparently cgi and 360 degree vomit inducing camera movements appeal to viewers today.

McGregor was awful. Hopefully this is the last movie someone hires him for.

I would hope so… but he mid-credits scene raises concerns that he will be back.

Cena’s character is the only one remotely likable. The 3 buddies are badly written and badly played. I couldn’t care less if they were being funny, stupid or sincere.
It’s like an episode of a 90s sitcom, like king of queens, drawn out to two hours. 4/10

This might be a winning recipe. They can crank these out on the cheap and make money no matter what’s inside. Call nicolas cage.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)

wow very forgiving and generous , i only gave it 3/10

ct451 1 points 2 months ago.

I left room for improvement in the other 4 episodes. I figured it would either improve as pieces come together or I would enjoy the mess more.

It got better with each episode. Unfortunately netflix pulled the plug mid-season on a cliffhanger. What a waste.

The first episode was good but it could do without the teacher/judge lady. Higher number of textures does not make better art.

I’ve watched this and the bricklayer and feel it is the better of the two. It was a good robbery flick where Bricklayer was an okay “super” retired spy movie. This was a good watch for me, it kept me entertained and I didn’t mind the bits were physics was ignored or stretched. It still rhymed with it takes a thief.

ct451 1 points 2 months ago.

I find physics perversions enjoyable. You get a sense that something is deliberately made so ridiculously over the top and it makes it fun. What I don’t understand is how they spend millions on a movie and couldn’t be bothered to figure out what NATO is or what INTERPOL is or what a country is. Even some secret made up organizations would have helped maintain the illusion.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
ct451 0 points 2 months ago.

It’s a weird relationship drama. Don’t expect anything like the movie. I’ve watched 4 episodes trying to like it. 20 minutes in I got bored. There are so many things wrong and very few redeeming qualities. The characters are unlikable sociopaths that cannot make me care about their relationship. Maybe a 5/10.

I remember this series from the 80s and even though many of the topics were put to bed since it is still a great show to watch. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys modern history channel offerings.

The Proof Is Out There (2021)

No offense but they are preaching to the choir. Every few years the same stories surface. I think fresh audience is the only thing that keeps them going.

Looks like a fun ride with some laughs. Kinda need some laughs about now. Probably better than the series of action flicks we have been seeing of late. I think they call them tradesmen action flics? It has a kind of It Takes a Thief vibe.

ct451 1 points 3 months ago.

I’ve watched this and the bricklayer. If you can turn off your brain and ignore how the world works, or enjoy picking at nonsensical action, go for it. This one is marginally better because it has bigger names and more ridiculous action sequences at better locations. Both 5/10 for my taste.

The White Lotus (2021)
grasshopper rex 6 points 1 year ago.

The artwork shown during the intro is a metaphor for the message of the show. At first glance beautiful, a closer examination reveals a darkness that makes one reevaluate the entire piece. Even the music used for the intro sounds lovely at first, but the strange warbling distracts and leaves an unsettling feeling.

Many excellent performances here, but Jennifer Coolidge and Simona Tabasco really stand out. Tabasco is every bit as hot as her name implies.

While it might not seem like a comedy to most, you can choose to laugh at the absurdity of life or drown in your own tears.

ct451 1 points 1 year ago.

It’s a metaphor that takes too long to play out. I always skip it.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S4 E13
Savax 3 points 2 years ago.

I say mission success, there is an old saying: talk of me in good terms or bad terms as long as you’re talking about me. Seeing as how people hate the show and keep watching it on a weekly basis and commenting about it, and that others thoroughly are enjoying the ride (myself included).
Is it the trek you watched as a kid, teen, young adult… of course it’s not nor is the world we live in. Trek has always been a looking glass into society’s problems through a sci-fi lense. In that respect it delivers exactly what the old shows used to offer but in today’s world not the 60’s or 80’s/90’s

ct451 2 points 2 years ago*.

Even if you really really like this you gotta let fans complain while the new season is in pre-production. The writers can use some pressure :)
That being said I believe it’s not black or white, hate/love, for most people.

Guessing this show is done for.

Hopefully Picard recruits the cast/crew and straightens them up a little.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S4 E13

That’s what’s been missing. Politicians running for office getting to be presidents of planets. Half the cast thinks whispering every line is acting. Maybe you can whisper your way to governor of GA.

OMG IS Ian Alexander annoying! He doesn’t even do anything!

Yeah, but, there was a lot of free advertising when they “announced the inclusion of the first trans and non-binary characters in the fifty-four year history of the Star Trek universe’s franchise of TV series and movies.”

How did that 17 year old racecar driver girl get 2 yeses..All she did was drive a car, and what will she do next, drive another car…???…!!!!..BIG DEAL…!!!!

ct451 0 points 2 years ago.

I agree. That was ridiculous. Milking it for a message that wasn’t there. Give your viewers some respect. Young people have more sense than to be inspired by mediocrity.
This was a disaster of an episode in general. Filler sponsored by porsche and jcb.

How could you completely remove the original opening theme song? That was most of the appeal when I watched it as a small child. This new opening theme music is watery and weak, and it inspires no excitement. Boo, hiss.

Watch till the end and you might be pleasantly surprised. Next episodes too.

Think Brexit… was it easy for the UK to leave the EU? Not at all. Now imagine if any country in the EU could leave on a whim without any repercussions. What if a new anti-EU, populist leader is elected and says “Hey, we’re out” — if it’s that easy, then anyone could go whenever for whatever reason. As stated in the show, if we did that then you get all the benefits of membership and all the responsibility is on us. This is the way coalitions work in the real world - the EU, NATO, UN, OPEC, etc. etc. etc. Exit clauses are never “you can leave whenever you want with no conditions” but rather “if you want to leave, there is a process for that (and it won’t be easy).

ct451 2 points 2 years ago.

I understand what you are saying. Their argument was about the disturbance. My point was that much like the burn if this thing disrupts the federation and they decide they are out then the federation cannot do much to oppose them. There is no intergalactic court of law to force anyone to keep their agreement. This is not like being a country on earth. The UK interacts with EU countries in countless levels and they can push back and the people/politicians in Britain were split up about Brexit because there was no triggering event.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S4 E4
ct451 2 points 2 years ago*.

Oh, yeah. A whole planet wants to leave the federation and what’s gonna stop them is a clause in a treaty. How exactly is the federation going to stop them? The same way they stopped most of them leaving after the burn?

Thats actually incorrect. The common era is what non religious people have been using for a long time. Lookup CE in wikipedia

ct451 3 points 2 years ago.

“Religious” people are the only ones who care. I think I would find more offensive the attempt to disguise the event under a different label. Then again I do not care.

City on a Hill (2019) S2 E6
donheli 0 points 3 years ago.

City on a Hill glaring mistake in this episode, Jenny Rohr and Maeve Regan speaking at the ocean at sunset after work. Nowhere on the east coast does the sun set over the ocean. It is a scene on the west coast. Then public housing in Boston did not have buildings as high as shown in the episode during that time period. Artistic licence I understand, however, not with the sunset.

Plenty of peninsulas and islands and what have you. From the park sign, Quincy MA looks like that place.

This is discovery+ exclusive. Not the same thing as the Discovery Channel. They tried to move regular shows to this streaming service and people got angry so they started making bad enough shows exclusively for it.

You are saying what I said. Getting out is the correct choice. To complain about how you didn’t like it there is an insult to all of us who live below their spoiled royal behinds. And if you don’t like my opinion there is no need to attack me personally. I watch it and I like it. Oprah did a fine job of exposing her.

So she wanted to join the royal family and be a princess but not adjust in anyway to what comes with it. Either act like a princess or get out. And stop crying about it. We peasants had enough of you.
