The top heavy structure is unstable. The cracks are already starting to show. This won’t end well.

doctor who 1 points 2 years ago.

the average wage index is massively flawed. It assumes that self employed workers make the same as employed workers. The self employed make up over 30% of wage earners. They literally took a guess at the income of 30% of wage earners and made a chart.

The Decade the Rich Won (2022) S1 E1
ShinmenTakezo 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

LOL, great point, but the last couple generations have been off the charts. Google “wages share of income” and see that anyone who works for wages has seen their share of national income on a sharp diagonal since early ‘70s. Salaried a little better off but not by much. The economy funnels most of the wealth that it produces directly to the top.

doctor who -5 points 2 years ago.

why are you so worried about how much somebody else makes? Google “Average Wage Index” which tells you how much the average workers wages increased over the same time period. I am more concerned with getting my own pay raise than how much others get.

Hard to watch some actors who have been accused of being horrible humans… and then having DAs refuse to press charges because there is no evidence. Also remember the accusers dropped civil suits after he refused to pay them off and insisted he would go to court. Sounds like another squeeze play in the “Me Too” money grab.

Spanish Lake (2014)
doctor who 2 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

The film clearly shows that the problem was not racism but was the usual lazy government solutions. Instead of do the right thing by distributing the poor across the entire county in an equitable manner they chose to cram as many as possible into Spanish Lake. Why? Because they knew that the areas that where incorporated would all fight them in the courts for a very long time. Also to blame were the realtors for steering and block busting (which although illegal still continues to this day). One only has to look at this situation, higher education. social security, and the healthcare system to understand that expecting the government to fix any social problem is foolish. Government not only does not fix problems; they actually make it worse.

The odds with controlled breeding (to diversify the genetic code) thru about 10 generations and we are back to our same stupid levels that we started with. Problem is humans being a special kind of stupid we will just find a new and interesting way to exterminate ourselves, LOL

This is the sequel, so yes he still is that same guy who kidnapped and impregnated the girl locked in basement. They’re just trying to redeem the character in this movie. You must’ve not been paying attention the last half of first film. He accidentally killed girl in basement when she was trying to escape with the thieves and even tried to replace her with the girl thief and force her to have his child too. When she escaped she just took the money he had to get out of Detroit and not be bothered with the legal trouble since what she did was illegal as well.

doctor who 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I find it interesting that people don’t like the guy that thinks it is fair for the woman that killed his daughter to have to produce a new one for him. Sort of like karma. On the other hand John Wick kills people for money and he is worshipped. Not judging… just something to think about.

Soul Reaper (2019)
Defleur 2 points 2 years ago.

I remember one time I had lunch with the Soul Reaper. It was a Monday afternoon in Bristol, rainy, cloudy, romantic, a city I had never been to before & where I will never go again - but I was there exchanging nuclear secrets. We laughed, we joked, we argued over the meaning of the word “the”. We exchanged numbers & eventually became lovers. The Soul Reaper declared his love to me, but I refused to believe & ran away to an island off the coast of Australia. The Soul Reaper chased me - I worked in Interpol & they helped me evade Soul Reaper. We haven’t seen each other for 6 years but I will never forget our time together when we set up an embroidery shop in Athens for 2 years & smoked sea shells together… I was not there in Iran when Soul Reaper was killed by the SAS, although all us sea-shell fishermen mourn his death every year with a BBQ which we host every year on this very day - to which all of you are invited…

Actually you just think he was killed by the SAS. In reality he is hiding in plain sight… you know that commercial where the guy wakes up to the Burger King in his bed? Didn’t you ever wonder who was behind the mask?

I thought I recognized the guy portraying Brad Paxton! Gary Dourdan played Warrick Brown on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for 8 seasons and left and it came down to contract negotiations. The parties involved reportedly couldn’t meet a resolution, and it was announced that Dourdan would leave the show. I liked him and the character he portrayed and found his acting very good!

“contract negotiations” is the catchall phrase they use to cover up bad things. He was actually having pretty serious narcotic problems and the studio was not willing to risk the CSI cash cow over bad press.

Enslaved (2020)
grasshopper rex 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

It leaves out a lot of juicy details. Like how the Portugese showed up with their firearms in search of gold and used intimidation to exploit the local slave trade. A slave trade, I might mention, that was vastly different from what the American slave trade would become. Enslaved people in that region has some rights and opportunities. Slavery in the US would take the horrific practice to new lows.

I guess the US deserves a pat on the back because their treatment of slaves was so abhorent that the ones that sold them the slaves had a change of heart and then sought to abolish slavery. Naturally, those same hypocrites then went on to use the abolition of the slave trade as a means to enslave an entire continent via colonization. Caucasians are tricky af.

Yeah, ignoring ‘all’ the facts in order to push a particular narrative does no one any favors. Nor does it absolve anyone from their part in it to shift blame.

Surely if blocking traffic is a textbook form of terrorism you can find actual textbooks or dictionaries using blocking traffic as an example, or citing incidents of simply blocking traffic as domestic terrorism. Can I get one of those please?

doctor who 6 points 3 years ago.

f you say that something is a textbook case or example, you are emphasizing that it provides a clear example of a type of situation or event. illegally blocking traffic to intimidate people in order to achieve political gain is a clear textbook example of terrorism. but you KNOW that and are just trying to set up a straw man. Ergo if you can only attack the messenger or the verbiage then you have no true rebuttal to the argument. Basically you have just admitted my statement was in fact valid and are saying you no longer have any useful input. goodbye and have a nice day.

Define “terrorists murders”. Terrorism and mass murder are not the same. Mass murders are just to kill, no ultimate outcome required as most mass murderers plan to die in the act. Terrorism is the act of doing something to people to put pressure on a third party in order to achieve a goal.

Even if you did manage to retire at 50, that’s unusual in the US (even 20 years ago). With the way the economy has been for the past 25 years, and the fact that wages haven’t really increased (whether entry level/non-degree jobs or not)—- it’s pretty unlikely someone with ANY degree would be able to retire at 50 or 60 years old.
While I’ll agree that there’s far too much political influence (both left and right) in academia, I think studying women’s history and sexuality is a useful thing. Depends on the teacher and school, of course. It also depends on the student. Plenty of people go to school for the sake of learning rather than trying to get a high paying job. Unfortunately, most people simply cannot afford to do either.

doctor who 0 points 3 years ago.

I have an 18 year old car. I do all the repair work for my small house and car myself. I have one TV and one computer. That computer is 10 years old and only cost $300 new. I use coupons and wait for sales to stock up. I rarely go out to eat. All the money my equals spent on extras I invested instead. Unlike those in D.C. I understand that it is not just what you make but also what you spend. Think back and recall all the money you wasted in life and then think about where you would be if you had invested it. So yes, it is possible to retire at age 50.
