Of all the Clint Eastwood movies ever made, this one is my favorite.
Of all the Donald Sutherland movies ever made, this one is my favorite.
Judging by your comment, I’m not sure you know what a notion is. A notion is an idea or concept. A device can be an example of an idea or concept. Might help you to to understand if you reread my comment as: “The idea of the 5th wall wasn’t created in this episode…”
You’re thinking of the 4th wall. Deadpool broke the fourth wall.
Nothing is set in stone. Everything is an idea that was created.
The 3rd wall is a character realizing that he’s in a show or play.
The fourth wall is a character breaking character in some way such as talking to the audience or refusing to say their lines in an intentional way.
The 5th wall, until this episode, was thought of as:
- A character addressing the audience or referencing the props. But this is actually included in the 4th wall. Some people inaccurately think it’s the 5th.
- A ceiling
- The biggest real estate firm in the world
- A VR company
- Facebooking with someone in the same house then breaking it by actually talking to them
- A floor
7.The wall between writer and critic - Any of various other divisions between groups of people in the theatre i.e. men and women
But, once again, those are all just notions. What the 5th wall is now is what I described above. The have beautifully created a new definition of 5th wall and simultaneously broken it. They are so far out of character that they are back in it.
If you have any more trouble with this, please abstain from further argument and just read the wikipedia article on the fourth wall. Or the fifth wall one just links you to the 4th.
when he refers to Ryan Reynolds the actor, and his other foray into the deadpool character ( the one with his lips stitched) yeah…that’s breaking the 5th wall….but do go on with your “educating”…I find it adorable.
The notion of a 5th wall wasn’t created in this episode, but The 5th Wall was. This is now what the 5th wall is.
There are a few definitions, this one is way better.
the 5th wall is a device…not a notion…and it’s been utilized before…just saying.

no…the 5th wall was created quite a bit ago, and perfected in the Dead Pool movies…but do go on.
Watch it a few more times, you’ll get it. I just barely got it and I’m really good at getting things. I still gotta watch it a few more times to really get it. It was genius!
Breaking the 4th wall is when actors reference the fact that they’re in a show or talk to the audience, etc. Basically it’s whenever they break character.
But this show basically created a metaphorical ‘5th wall’ which they then broke. They were breaking the 4th wall so much, so drastically, that they weren’t breaking it anymore. Like they broke out of the 4th wall so far that they went around the world and broke back into it on the other side.
They were extremely breaking character while still staying in character. It’s a paradox yet they still managed to make it exist! Roiland and Harmon and crew did to television what Rick does to science: the impossible.
No the plot was not that we should buy more stuff. Gotta look deeper than that. That part was saying how meaningless our lives have become. We should be living instead of just mindlessly spending. But what else is there? Nothing matters. We’re all gonna die. So go buy buy buy!
The 5th wall was not created in this episode…it’s the act of not only knowing you are in a movie or work of fiction…but acknowledging you are the actor playing the role often invoking other roles the actor has inhabited.
“lacked depth”…..either you are trolling or you are sincere…if you are trolling…kudos…if you are sincere…you literally are unaware of the basics of storytelling, the expectations of fandom, the pressures and pervasive nature of commercialism, the beats of satire and the through line that inhabits and unites them all in this episode. Just saying.
This was just good story telling. A lot to unpack but honestly I love that they didn’t portray Schlafly as an arch enemy to the Women’s Movement…people disagree…often because they don’t know all the variables and change is challenging and sometimes scary. Modern progressives have voted against bills that were brought forth by one of their own because they didn’t want to basically double down on existing amendments because it took away it’s power…to be clear, I am in favor of an ERA…but I understand why other women oppose it…as for men…meh…I don’t care what they think on this matter.
She’s equally capable of being reasonable or unreasonable.
first….I missed you…not gonna even put up any pretense…secondly….agreed…..lelz.
Well, Golly Gosh Gee Whiz, someone disagrees with me, what’s a person to do?
my dude…ya kinda undercut your whole argument of “targeted at pre-teen boys” when you said “My best friend Samantha and I watched this at least once a week for an entire summer.”…guessing Samantha wasn’t a preteen boy?..also you get how the comment section of literally anywhere works, right? you say a thing and people reply….that’s…ya know…why the reply button….j/s…..
There are worse thing you could do than give this musical a chance….or two.
Although targeted at pre-teen boys, adult fantasy lovers should still find this a good watch.
My best friend Samantha and I watched this at least once a week for an entire summer.
“targeted at pre-teen boys”….jebuz…this was directed by Terry Gilliam…so right off the bat….no…..also….lelz…it covers themes and history and mythology and their relevant meaning that wouldn’t exactly “land” with preteen boys….I was a preteen girl and I loved it when it came out..and as I got older I recognized the religious takes and other themes…dude..nah…not targeted to preteen boys..targeted to humans who understand subtext….
“you read animal farm?”
“Yes, Ma’am I did”…sums up this movie and the problem with America…just saying.
Big fan of the painting the title eludes to….and the story eludes to….nice.
just read that king has a novella called“If it Bleeds” coming out in may. If features Holly and is a direct sequel to The Outsider. the article speculated that a season 2, if there is one, will follow that story. also, there was a small teaser after the credits and a pretty cool BTS feature for episodes 8,9 and 10 with some cool insight from King himself.
Hope others stay for the after credits scene…I always wait…but I’m a nerd. Hoping this goes on for at least another season….Horror without hardly showing ish….great storytelling.
Weird to see him push the “Fenris sos” button since Fenris is the doomsday wolf in Nordic Mythology (Viking), it means if wolf gets lose doomsday starts.
Seems convenient, but then again seven of nine was a Fenris Ranger…tie in perhaps.
Thganks for the heads up on Ozarks S3. Also if you havn’t heard of Hunters from Amazon. I think it premiers the middle of Feb. but their is a trailer up now.
I really enjoyed this. It kept my attention with some wonderfully engaging characters, despite some of the simple adolescent stereotypical side characters that were kinda annoying. Not having read the original graphic novel, I am eager to see where this goes.
you should read the comic…it’s super dark and weirdly hilarious…kinda like you.

I read the comic and while there is some delineation it seems headed in a similar direction…buckle up buttercup……lelz..also..hi…it’s nice to chat with you outside the chatbox……lelz..oh…and I totally agree with all you said…the comic had a similar problem but well worth wading through it to get the fun stuff.
universal soldier was about a soldier being brought from the dead. no “superpowers” as per se. was dead so couldn’t die again without extreme measures. he was dead a soldier brainwashed….hence not dead, but comatose whien brainwashed into being this person. he was person, but had no feelings or sense of pain due to the brainwashing. this becomes evident in US 2+ as the timeline goes on. jean claude remembers who he is, and becomes the soldier he used to be with the same morals and the family that has “buried” him yrs before.
Oh…snap…The Nice Guys…did you ever see that movie? Russel Crowe was hilarious in that….dang it…..I think I might have a thing for Russel Crowe…..whatever shall I tell my gf?…anyways…that movie rocks…and Cinderella Man is good…I just don’t think it’s the best boxing movie despite my feelings for Russel Crowe
btw I noticed you giving two Russel Crowe movies 5 stars (this one and The Insider) and I commented that you MIGHT have a thing for Russel Crowe…..and I wasn’t talking ish…I love Russel Crowe…He was AMAZING in Master and Commander…..you kinda over reacted bruh…and you said your opinion….and I stated mine…that’s not trolling, dahling…that’s just like, my opinion, man……
this is a movie site….opinions are everywhere…don’t air yours if you can’t handle it…waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!
ummm…okay? I don’t even know what this means…but go on with your bad self…?
I’ve been here since it went up…lelz you telling me what kind of site this is…hilarious
Ok…I would state that a number of films depicting boxing are better, The Harder they Fall, Rocky, The Fighter, The Boxer, Raging Bull, Creed…eff off punchy
seems like you got a thing for Russel Crowe, kewl.
Jaysis, downvote cowards really don’t like anyone suggesting they read a book. :)
Read more Heinlein.
lelz…I meant in film/tv…but agreed….More Maureens!!!!!! as well I really love how he writes women…..
The band boning out with transporter tech when the ish hit the fan cracked me up….definite improvement from last week…but as a “heist” type episode it was kinda weak. I am super enthused about Mexicans in space, though…I don’t get that much.
the beheading was nice and I liked the EMH/ETH hilarity…but yeah weakest so far
I’ve seen some comments in chat about that dog, and many people seem to think it was the producer’s idea to give him a pit bull because of some idea that it would be a metaphor for Picard’s sweet, yet solid and strong presence. That is not the case. Patrick Stewart has fostered pit bulls for many years because he believes, and promotes them, to be very docile and loving animals. He has promoted the breed to counter the fear of them that has found many places restricting them. It was Sir Patrick himself that insisted that Picard’s dog be a pit bull for that reason.
Is it just me or does this episode seem like it was cropped? Like.. most of the time the faces are almost cut in half. Rather sad as I enjoyed the show other then that.
Apparently Kim Pine is here to find robots and fly around and stuff. ONE TWO THREE FOUR
Coming from a culture that has experienced a diaspora, I do feel for the Romulans in this universe…also the synth thing is an interesting storyline….even if I wasn’t a huge Star Trek fan I believe I would be watching this show on it’s own merits…also I have a crush on Sir Patrick Stewart….
of course the black panthers still exist, they have web sites with a manifesto. You can’t seem to talk without being degrading and rude. You just keep insulting me like you think you know me. Black lives matter is also no better than the KKK. I am quesing by the way you talk your full of hate and think your well informed. Sad.
“Black lives matter is also no better than the KKK.” The sheer stupidity of that statement and the willful ignorance of the rest of what you say earns you zero respect and all the condemnation that comes your way. Average Joe Racist you may have the last word.
actually no…but if you are all in to delusion and ignorance, shine on you crazy diamond. Bigots deal in monoliths. Saying black is beautiful is not anti white. Feeding impoverished black children is not anti white. Watch dogging the corrupt LAPD is not anti white. Just like saying Black Lives Matter is not saying White Lives don’t Matter. It’s pointing out injustice and trying to help a struggling community. And only the willfully ignorant would think The New Black Panthers are and extension of The Black Panthers..which by the way…no longer exist. You clearly lack intellectual curiosity so I don’t expect you will investigate the truth…so enjoy the bliss of ignorance average joe.

Adaption of the 1937 play, Parfumerie by playwright, Miklós László. You might like The Shop Around the Corner, especially around the holiday season.
You’ve Got Mail is based off the play as well and if you can’t settle into an older movie, maybe a more recent Tom Hanks story is closer to your liking. I really like both.
