Dinner with the Parents (2024)
hellsingfan01 2 points yesterday.

This really isn’t all that surprising to be honest as alot of American remakes of British sitcoms are usually bad and while there are a few exceptions to this rule they are very few and very far between.

tardisrider 1 points 19 hours ago.

for the most part i would 100% agree exceptions are 3’s company(us)vs man about the house(gb), sanford and son(us)vs steptoe and son(gb), shameless(us)vs shamless(gb) the us version was for me hands down better, most recently ghosts(us)vs ghosts(gb) although its a toss up for me which is better on this one. i’m sure there are others these are just first ones that come to mind. btw thanks for the heads up on this one!

watched this hoping to see some familiar sites from Hong Kong + has Nicole Kidman but got as far as ep3 b4 the cloyingly overdone drama grated on my nerves, life’s too short time to drop. 4/10

Thank you tardisrider, your comment was so much nicer than a previous persons comment. It was removed. I did find the trailer off-site and it looked intense and I look forward seeing Costner’s version of a western. I think he won’t follow the typical western that was made in the 30’s and 40’s.

Just watched the trailer for part 1 and it was intense and looks to be a good movie to hold your attention. Oh, one of his sons is in the movie too.

Poor Things (2024)
tardisrider 5 points 1 month ago.

so glad i waited for a better copy!!! bordering on the sureal, it wanders through a story of discovery, with stellar performances from stone and dafoe, and ruffalo, one of only 8 movies i have ever given 10/10 stars!!!!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
ct451 0 points 2 months ago.

It’s a weird relationship drama. Don’t expect anything like the movie. I’ve watched 4 episodes trying to like it. 20 minutes in I got bored. There are so many things wrong and very few redeeming qualities. The characters are unlikable sociopaths that cannot make me care about their relationship. Maybe a 5/10.

tardisrider 2 points 2 months ago.

wow very forgiving and generous , i only gave it 3/10

Perry Mason (2020)
tardisrider 1 points 3 months ago.

contrary to many beliefs the Raymond burr version was not the original, Warner Bros. released a series of six Perry Mason films in the 1930s.

The Case of the Howling Dog (1934), with Warren William as Perry Mason and Helen Trenholme as Della Street.
The Case of the Curious Bride (1935), with Warren William and Claire Dodd as Della Street. Notable for the first-released American screen appearance of Errol Flynn as the corpse, who is seen alive but not speaking in a brief flashback.
The Case of the Lucky Legs (1935), with Warren William and Genevieve Tobin as Della Street.
The Case of the Velvet Claws (1936), with Warren William and Claire Dodd as Della Street Mason.
The Case of the Black Cat (1936) (from The Case of the Caretaker's Cat [1935]), with Ricardo Cortez as Perry Mason and June Travis as Della Street.
The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1937), with Donald Woods as Perry Mason and Ann Dvorak as Della Street.
Warrior (2019) S3 E10
greyfur 1 points 3 months ago.

Show got the ax man, no more seasons. Even says ended at the bottom of the thumbnail now. Couple of others got it as well. Winchesters got cut, Blue Bloods will get one more season, then they are done, Magnum P.I. gets to roll out the last couple episodes they have made, I think like 10ish, then they are done. SWAT has one more season, then they get the ax as well. Young Sheldon, can’t remember if that got the ax flat out or if it’s getting one more season. Never watched that.

I was really hoping for another season if this, it was a good show. Seems like they are killing off a lot of really good shows, but all the so called ‘reality shows’ seem to be thriving. Can’t seem to understand that myself.

tardisrider 1 points 3 months ago.

yes ,but if you do a search the info is that it was picked up by netflix who sometimes will revive a show for a season or two to give fans an ending depending on how it does and viewer response.

Can someone explain to me why they chose to use a Japanese actor for the role of a Chinese immigrant? Certainly there are excellent Chinese actors skilled in kungfu that could do this role. I’m not trying to make any racial issue out of it, but I cannot be the only one who can tell the difference between Asian people. To make a film or show more believable and get the audience more emotionally invested in the story, I think it is important to make the characters believable. I have the same issues with all the fake Germans, Russians, etc. that Hollywood uses instead of hiring native speakers. But that is another story.

tardisrider 2 points 3 months ago.

truth is hollyweird has always been myopic where race is concerned. famously hiring Navajo extras to play Cheyenne in one movie, when the subtitles say kill the white man, what they are actually saying in Navajo not Cheyenne is just wave your spear and holler so this fool will be happy. it is considered a comedy on the res.

Doctor Who (2005)
syndromezed 1 points 2 years ago.

Pretty much agree completely…Whittaker has been very good as the Doctor, and even the companions have had bright spots even if they’ve been pretty uneven overall.

But I don’t like the whole “The Doctor is not really a Time Lord” direction at all. Going that route not only bollixes up the Master’s and the Doctor’s relationship, it rips a lot of the heart out of big chunks of the older stories. Unless the writers spend half of the final Whittaker run with angsty stories where she wonders why she should have even cared about locking the Time Lords back up in David Tennant’s farewell episode, or why she saved them from so many different races, it’s going to be a meaningless Shyamalan-like attempt at a twist.
Couple that with the current writers’ propensity to write episodes that draw a lot of plot points out for no real reason for 40 out of the 50 minutes of runtime, only to have the climax be that the Doctor throws a switch with very little risk to herself or really anyone else, and it really boils down to needing new writers (and showrunner) more than a new Doctor. I mean heck, hokey though some of the old series might be, at least something was usually about to blow up or get sucked into a black hole or time well when the Doctor saved the day. :)

tardisrider 1 points 3 months ago.

totaly agree jodie is great, writers meh. i grew up on the old series well 70 on and the budget was small with some sometimes laughable props but the writing was great really hooked you and drew you in….

I really was hoping Bern would take the Sheriff’s job and he would either retire and become her elder/sounding-board like his dad, or take the chief job with the police. She would then be Chee’s boss and spend the next season dealing with all that. I guess they wanted to wrap things up neatly in case there was no season 3.
