This show is about the pursuit of “love”, at all costs. Each character has dreams and desires, and their own cage to be freed from. Their dreamy ideals are quickly shattered when the wheels - or shackles - come off. It’s a complete train wreck…. but train wrecks can be quite entertaining to watch!

I’m drawn to the psychological and relational aspects of this show. There is a rather resilient cast of blue-collar characters. The characters rest between being overtly manipulative and narcissistic, to childishly controllable and needy. One woman cashes in big time on a man’s need for maternal love and acceptance. One man seeks a fixer-upper project to renovate and own. And an uncommitted “boy” leaves two women waiting in the wings.

Ultimately, each character desperately seeks to loose their chains and find a place of intimacy, security, and freedom. Some characters show tremendous self-sacrifice and drive in their attempts to make love happen. Predictably, some characters find themselves emotionally shackled to an uncommitted partner, or imprisoned for parole violation.
