RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S14 E16
alexisbits 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Thanks to Ru’s Twitter, I knew the winner 15 minutes after the show ended. But I enjoyed the watch anyway. Lady Camden did a better job with the lip sync, though it was close. I got the feeling Willow won because of her chronic illness (not to say that she didn’t suffer, chronic illness is hard. But it shouldn’t be a factor in a competition). It was interesting seeing some of the former Queens perform. I swear, Derrick Berry looks more like Britney now than she does! And can we talk about Kornbread’s titties? ;-)

augusts1 0 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

‘And can we talk about Kornbread’s titties?’ NO, no let’s not talk about her jumbo chocolate muffins Whitney & Mariah tyvm bahahaha. Glad she won Ms Congeniality!

I don’t agree that Willow won because of her illness. She showed time & again that she overcame her illness & did well but I doubt that’s why Ru chose her. We’ll never know though. But she worked hard for that crown w/her creativity & unique drag vision.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
alexisbits 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Yes, most of the rest of the cast were awful. Tim Curry stole the show, but is that a surprise? It’s not the best Addams portrayal. But have you seen “The New Addams Family”? It CAN be worse! lol. The CGI definitely was bad. But at the time. . .

augusts1 1 points 2 years ago.

No I’ve not seen that & w/your ‘glowing’ recommendation I shall summarily refrain LOL.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
alexisbits 2 points 2 years ago.

I adored Carolyn Jones as Morticia. Though I’ve enjoyed every version of “The Addams Family”, whether animated or live scripted. Each version brings it’s own take on a classic.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Loved Carolyn Jones as Morticia. She was perfect & a goddess. I think Elvira based her persona partially on her, I’m willing to bet.

Glad my comment reminded you of this one. I hadn’t seen it in years, prior to this watch. I hope you enjoy seeing it again, if you haven’t already.

augusts1 1 points 2 years ago.

No I didn’t. See my review below. Can’t win them all I guess lol.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Total trash of a movie. Curry & Hannah were ok but the rest of the cast was so over the top to be obnoxious. I love a good comedy but this had few laughs for me. It had a very vaudevillian feel to where most things were overacted to the point of trying too hard. It just did not work. The cgi was awful too, especially w/the dog. Very sad since the 1st two movies are classics. I hope the newest animated versions that came out a couple of years ago are better than this.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)

Long before Raul played Gomez, John Astin had the role (the TV show from the 60s).

Yup, I watched it as a kid! Great show.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
alexisbits 3 points 2 years ago.

Since the 19th was Tim Curry’s birthday, I wanted to watch one of his movies. But I’d recently seen Rocky Horror and “Clue”. “IT” was too long. I wasn’t in the mood for “Legend” or “Gingerclown”. So, I went for this. I’d forgotten how funny it can be at times. Is it the best Addams portrayal? No. But Tim Curry as Gomez worked.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Thanks for the comment. I forgot about this movie. Going to watch it tonight.

Shining Vale (2022)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

1st episode was surprisingly decent w/some good satire throughout the drama like ‘It must be a deer!’ from the dad, among others lines. I wasn’t expecting much from feedback I read elsewhere. It’s certainly nothing new since the plot has been done many times before in other haunted house shows/movies but the acting, soundtrack & the production design are good. It’s a good base to start w/& I hope this improves as it goes along.

augusts1 1 points 2 years ago.

Agreed, I don’t either since I have difficulty hearing accents. I’ve not seen this but it sounds similar to that UK game show ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’ w/Jimmy Carr which is hilarious. Carr is not only a UK treasure but a universal one too.

Our Flag Means Death (2022)

A posh Englishman decides to take on helming a pirate ship replete w/pirates, what could go wrong? Well, everything for them but comedy gold for us. The 1st epi was pretty funny. Waititi is always good for a watch & a laugh. Good acting, writing & production design too. Hopefully it just gets even better from here but even if it stays at this level it will be entertaining.

This was ‘well done’ LOL. Great performances & production design but there’s definitely some issues w/the story line as it was fairly predictable, although I didn’t see the twist of the wife’s involvement coming. I also wondered what happened to the guy the wife showed up with at the end. I guess he got tf out of there once he saw the couple were dead. I still have more questions but overall it was worth a one time watch.

He is so amazing to watch. I almost passed on this until I saw he was in it. . . and Arquette is another special one. The show is creepy as hell, nail biting different. Makes my claustrophobia bother me a bit tho.

That’s a great descriptor for it, claustrophobic but in the best way possible.

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S14 E14
alexisbits 0 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I hated Daya’s runway look. But her performance in the challenge was great And she listened. Willow as a rodent was adorable! Though she said “rat” and everyone thought “mouse” (probably because of the ears). Angie’s black dress was amazing! But she didn’t listen to direction. Camden was the clear winner, obviously. Bosco was forgettable, in spite of the runway outfit. Yet made it to the top. That final lip sync, there’s no way it couldn’t be a tie. Shout out to RuPaul’s Dress of Many Colors.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I hated Ruples outfit. It was an elevated yet still trashy version of Maddy Morphosis’ hideous patchwork outfit lol.

I liked Daya’s burnt look though. Camden was living her best life in both the challenge & runway. Poor Angie, she’s doubting herself so much but I’m glad of the outcome of the lip synch. I had a feeling they’d both stay since Ruples loves them both so much.

Walken’s a demi-god.

augusts1 1 points 2 years ago.

Agreed, Alien. (BTW I accidentally deleted my previous comment when I meant to edit it lol).

Piglet you’re missing out if you’re passing on this just because of your Walken bias. He’s not in this that much & there are plenty of other characters that are as creepy or more so than his character. But to each their own.

Accidents do happen, especially while partying on a boat using alcohol/substances. Easy to fall off & drown if you’re not careful.

Finally saw this after many years of hearing about it & Resolution. So excellent. I was mesmerized by the phenomenal cast, the storyline, production design & FX. As others have said, watch Resolution first since they are companion movies both directed by the two leads in this movie. Both will definitely make you think & mess w/your mind which I always enjoy.

Amélie (2001)

I love this movie. It brings back lots of memories. I saw it on my first visit to Paris in the fall of 2001. That feels like a lifetime ago now…

Birdsforme 4 points 2 years ago.

Also saw it on the big screen with family and friends. I found it delightful. We all went out and bought the soundtrack and played it over for many years.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

Jeunet’s films are so filled w/weird & wonderful characters & things. Amelie is light & whimsical for him since most of his movies tend to have darker themes visually & thematically & filled w/lots of dark humor which I love. His 1st film ‘Delicatessen’ is great & fits that bill to a T.

Resolution (2013)
augusts1 3 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Trippy indie film. It interweaves folklore, the history of the area around the cabin & the paranormal among other things. It’s never really explained what is happening which is what the characters experience. But it mostly is a conversation between two friends struggling to get a grip on the addiction of one of them.

I was fascinated & the 90 minute run time went by fast for a mainly dialogue driven film. Really speaks to the writing & development of the characters & the actors who play them. Definitely worth seeing.

Watched the 2nd epi & was marvelling at the production & sound design. The music & sound effects really create such a creepy tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s so well done. Loving the suspense thriller vibe causing one to wonder what really is going on here. Highly recommended.

Classic Almodovar. Cheesy, campy ode to women & their problems w/lots & lots of black humor.

Severance (2022)
SATURNINE999 -6 points 2 years ago.

The suspension of disbelief is far too challenging in this attempt at implausible sc-fi noir (?).
Anybody stupid enough to sell 1/2 their brain to any corporation deserves their lot. I dunno if I can keep watching this dud to realize all the intricacies of these BOTTOM LINE STUPID PROTAGONISTS. This is like a means test to the end of who is most like a sheep in a flock of corporate prostitution. The entire premise is flimsy and hastily subtexted. There are plenty who would reign in ell rather than serve in heaven. This depiction is one of the less interesting of the genre. This is like those Missing hbo with Justin (Aniston ex?). Asinine thesis that went nowhere in philosophical dead ends and very soon subsequently cancelled . Even Patricia Arquette can’t save this one.

augusts1 4 points 2 years ago.

Thank you. Your review made me want to check it out further to see what you’re going on about. I ended up loving it & getting hooked on the 1st epi. It’s truly brilliant & found myself laughing at the black humor at various points throughout. The acting is just stellar & I was all in from watching the trailer alone. So thank you for your point of view that motivated me to find out for myself if it was worth my time. It very well is worth it.

Topside is also about being homeless. Set in New York, it focuses on a mother and her young daughter, who live in the tunnels under the train system. When all the people are kicked out from the tunnels, the little girl has to be above ground for the first time. It is very tramatic for her. The story focuses on her perspective.

Not heard of Topside. I’ll have to check it out. Paul Bettany directed & wrote this who is a phenomenal actor in his own right. My intro to him was the movie Dogville w/Nicole Kidman.
