TV Show: The Kids in the Hall ( 1988 )
Get ready for sketch comedy...Canadian style! The Kids In The Hall are a hilarious sketch comedy troupe. They got their name from a comedian named Jack Benny, who would often end a joke by saying: "I got this from the kids in the hall", referring to the amateur comedians who would hang around outside his office. KITH was formed in 1984 when McCulloch and McKinney, who had worked together in Calgary as part of a group named the Audience, teamed up with Foley and McDonald's Toronto-based group, KITH. Thompson officially joined in January 1985. That same year, McCulloch and McKinney were hired as writers for NBC's Saturday Night Live after a talent scout saw KITH in performance. TV Show: Laverne & Shirley ( 1976 )
This spin-off of the classic sitcom Happy Days focused on Milwaukee's Sweethearts, Laverne De Fazio and Shirley Feeney, two lower class girls who shared an apartment and worked together at Shotz Brewery as bottle-cappers. The two girls were as different as night and day: Laverne was feisty, quick-tempered and man-hungry while Shirley was more naive and trusting and quite inexperienced when it came to romance. The two shared their apartment building with Leonard "Lenny" Kosnowski and Andrew "Squiggy" Squigman, two wannabe greasers who always visited at the most inconvenient times and drove the girls insane. The girls hung out at the Pizza Bowl, a local pizza restaurant/bowling alley owned by Laverne's boisterous father Frank. The characters moved to Burbank, California during the show's sixth season, and Cindy Williams departed the series as Shirley during its eighth. The show remains a popular staple of syndication.

TV Show: Malcolm in the Middle ( 2000 )
In the words of They Might Be Giants' rollicking Grammy-winning theme song, "life is unfair." The inventive and wholly original sitcom Malcolm in the Middle has been honored with a Peabody Award and Emmys for directing and writing, but if life was fair, it would have earned an Emmy for Best Comedy Series, not to mention statuettes for its pitch-perfect cast. With his perpetual "yes, me worry" expression, Frankie Muniz instantly earns audience empathy as Malcolm, whose chances for a normal life are thwarted not only by his genius IQ, but also by his outrageously dysfunctional family: Lois, his obsessive, control-freak mother; Hal, his loving but ineffectual father; Francis, his eldest brother waging his own private war at military school; middle brother Reese, a delinquent savant; and Dewey, the put-upon youngest. As Malcolm observes at one point, "This family may be rude, loud and gross, and have no shame whatsoever, but with them you know where you stand."
