TV Show: The Old Grey Whistle Test ( 1971 )
The Old Grey Whistle Test is a variety music show that aired on BBC 2.The show's focus on "serious" rock music, rather than chart hits covered on BBC1 by Top of the Pops, was emphasised by a lack of showbiz glitter: bands would often perform their songs in front of either the bare studio walls or plain wooden boards (actually the backs of set walls from other programmes filmed in the same studio). The programme hosted many seminal acts of the era, including the first British TV performance of Bob Marley and the Wailers as well as then little-known acts of whom any early footage is now considered precious, such as Billy Joel, Judas Priest (with a long haired Rob Halford), Wishbone Ash, Judee Sill, Heart, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.Whistle Test was also the British television debut of the American glam punk band New York Dolls. Although host Bob Harris derided the group as "mock rock," comparing them unfavourably to The Rolling Stones, their performance influenced the following punk rock scene such as the Sex Pistols and The Clash as well as alternative bands like R.E.M. and The Smiths and the glam metal scene of the 1980s.

This is the story of The Easybeats.Friday on My Mind is more than a classic rags to riches tale. It is a story of identity, reinvention and belonging with a powerful contemporary relevance. The series tells the story of five disparate immigrant boys who band together with an equally talented young visionary from the top end of town to create Australia's first truly international rock group, The Easybeats. Interwoven with a killer soundtrack, the series touches on themes of celebrity and redemption. While it was a wild ride being rock stars in the swinging sixties, the talented musicians struggled with holding on to their sense of self in their pursuit of riches and stardom, and were forced to confront the loss of identity that comes with overwhelming fame and living in a foreign land. Ultimately, it was through their groundbreaking music that they found themselves at home and discovered they were essentially Australian. They belonged.

Created by Dick Clark as a spin-off of American Bandstand, Where the Action Is premiered on June 27, 1965.Originally intended as a summer replacement and broadcast at 2 P.M. EDT, the show was successful enough for it to continue throughout the 1965-66 TV season, with a change in time period to 4:30 P.M. Eastern time following the horror soap opera Dark Shadows. Both programs attracted a young audience who watch the shows after school. The show's theme song, "Action", became a hit single for Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon, peaking on the charts (#13) in September 1965. Most of the telecasts, all of which were produced in black-and-white, were taped at various locales inSouthern California although a handful of segments were taped elsewhere in the country. Individual episodes featured a wide range of guest performers, as detailed below. Also appearing were Steve Alaimo, Keith Allison, and Linda Scott. Ms. Scott had a few hit singles as a teenager in the early 1960s; she was only 20 when "Action" premiered. The weekday program was cancelled on March 31, 1967, with the network giving its local affiliates the time slot. However, members of the program's mainstay band Paul Revere and the Raiders (with lead vocalist Mark Lindsay) hosted very similar follow-up shows; both Revere and Lindsay hosted Happening '68, a Saturday afternoon follow-up toAmerican Bandstand, and a weekday version of the same show, It's Happening, from 1968 to 1969.
