Misconceptions
Amanda Watson was more than a little shocked to find out that all her teenage daughter Hopper wanted for her birthday was to meet her biological father. After all, Hopper has always heard that her dad is well-bred, handsome, athletic, well-educated and a successful doctor. The only problem is Amanda never actually met him, she only knows him from the profile she was given at the Ivy League sperm bank. After discussing the situation with Horace, her best friend and co-worker at an art museum in Chicago, Amanda decides it's time to track down the father of her child and is mortified to discover that her supposedly ideal donor was not the Olympic medalist, Yale-educated surgeon that she has imagined all these years. Meet Eddie Caprio, a man who needed a little cash after junior college and lied about his identity. Eddie has a certain undeniable charm, yet he's too scattered and immature for Amanda's taste. He can't hold a job, he prefers beer to fine wine, and his idea of dressing up is wearing a clean baseball cap. In Amanda's eyes, Eddie is barely capable of taking care of himself, let alone Hopper. However, when Eddie tracks her down, Hopper falls head-over-heels for her fun-loving dad, and Amanda is forced to allow him to be part of their lives. Could Eddie's appeal be getting through to Amanda, too? Apparently, they're going to have plenty of time to find out.

TV Show:
The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd
( 1987 )
The show was about a young woman living in New York City, named Molly Dodd (played by Blair Brown). Created by Jay Tarses (Buffalo Bill, The Bob Newhart show) with a great supporting cast: David Strathairn, Victor Garber, Nathan Lane, etc. Aired as a summer series in four 13-episode seasons on NBC (they liked the show but it was different enough that they had trouble finding a spot for it in the main season schedule, hence the summer runtime). After NBC cancelled it, Lifetime picked it up for one season in 1991. The show has been described as ahead of its time and influencing many of the classic sitcoms produced later in the '90's. The series has not been rerun on cable or released on DVD (reason usually guessed is the expense of clearing music rights, a common occurence with many shows produced during the '80' and '90's).

TV Show:
Ultraviolet
( 1998 )
Dark forces are at large in the city in this drama series about modern vampires, starring Jack DavenportThe premise of Ultraviolet is that vampires do exist and that a secret organisation backed by government funds – the CIB – not only tracks their movements, but spends a lot of time helping convert them to ashes. Ashes which are then stored in a high-security containment facility because it's a well-known fact that vampires can resurrect. The CIB (unlike, say, Buffy) uses high-tech equipment, so someone's obviously spent some time working out how to bring vampires and vampire-fighting up-to-date. Carbon bullets, guns incorporating cameras and mirror sights, vampire bites that can only be seen through ultraviolet light... these are all updates on popular vampire mythology. The CIB is made up of the traditional stereotypes of vampire hunting: a priest (Fr Pearse Harman - Philip Quast), an ex-soldier (Vaughan Rice - Idris Elba), and a scientist – in this case a haematology specialist (Dr Angela March - Susannah Harker). The three members of the team are dedicated and experienced, cold and clinically hardened to the killing that permeates their daily existence. The newest addition of the team, a cop (Michael Coleman – Jack Davenport) forced to kill his best friend after the latter becomes a vampire, is the character whose development we follow through the series.'When a human dies, the soul dies too. We are the source of all religion. We are the afterlife. There is nothing else...'
