Police Squad!
( 1982 )
Police Squad! was a parody of the Quinn Martin Productions' police dramas of the 1960s and 1970s, hence the use of "In Color" by the narrator. The show's main staple of entertainment came from sight gags (such as a tow truck being a truck in the shape of a big toe) and misunderstandings in dialogue, mostly from people taking things extremely literally. Several great routines came from these misunderstandings that left characters in the scene very confused, but left the audience with loads of humor.

Pac-Man
( 1982 )
Very short lived, the series was one of a number of shows that failed seeking to capitalize on the success of a video game. Everyone from Donkey Kong to Q*Bert has come and gone in animated form almost completely unnoticed, but my theory is that the producers of these sorts of shows don't really expect them to last past one or two seasons. The downside is that cartoons can cost even more than a live-action show, so in the case of Pac-Man, who really wasn't promoting anything besides a video game that everyone on the planet was already playing, just can't be thought of as a success.

Out of the Unknown
( 1965 )
Out of the Unknown is a British television science fiction anthology drama series, produced by the BBC and broadcast on BBC2 in four series between 1965 and 1971. Each episode was a dramatisation of a science fiction short story. Some were written directly for the series, but most were adaptations of already published stories. The first three years were exclusively science fiction, but that genre was abandoned in the final year in favour of horror/fantasy stories. A number of episodes were wiped during the early 1970s, as was standard procedure at the time. A large number of episodes are still missing but some do turn up from time to time; for instance, Level Seven from series two, originally broadcast on 27 October 1966 was returned to the BBC from the archives of a European broadcaster in January 2006.

The series centers on the Witherspoon family and the challenges they face adjusting to life with three generations living in the same house. After his son John dies, retired widower Gus Witherspoon (played by Wilford Brimley) invites his daughter-in-law Jessica 'Jessie' Witherspoon (played by Deidre Hall) and her three children to move to California to live with him until they can get back on their feet financially.Despite protests from her children, Jessie, along with 15-year-old daughter Kris (played by Shannen Doherty), 12-year-old son David (played by Chad Allen), eight-year-old daughter Molly (played by Keri Houlihan), and their basset hound named Arthur leave Fort Wayne, Indiana, to start their new lives in California. As they settle into life with Gus, they realize that he can be difficult to live with. A major part of the plot each week was centered on the conflict that can arise when extended family tries to live together in the same house. As the man of the house, Gus imposed rules on the three grandchildren the same way he raised his own children but later learned ways to convey his lessons to the kids without being gruff. Jessie and the kids learn that beneath Gus' stern facade is a man who is wise about the ways of the world and cares about them very much.In a feature reminiscent of the 1960s T.V. series The Wild Wild West, each of the five acts of the episode before commercial ended with a freeze-frame shot, which then occupied one of the rooms in an abstract rendering of a house figure. As the episode unfolded, more rooms were filled until finally, when the dilemma had been resolved, the final piece was put in place, completing the house.John Witherspoon (played by Patrick Duffy) was seen in one episode and in the occasional flashback.

Nurses
( 1991 )
This spin-off of The Golden Girls and Empty Nest also took place at Miami's Community Medical Center, which they often used to crossover stars of the other two shows (oddly though, none of the characters from this show surfaced on The Golden Girls at all, and they didn't show up on Empty Nest until 1993). This sitcom introduced us to the staff of 3 West. Annie Roland (Arnetia Walker), head nurse, was a strong-willed working mom who was married to a fireman. Sandy Miller (Stephanie Hodge), was the cynical, but dedicated, second in command. The best friend of Empty Nest's Laverne, Sandy was a Texan prone to dating the wrong men. Gina Cuevas (Ada Maris) was an immigrant from the small country of San Pokeno. Virgin Gina spent her days lusting after Dr. Hank Kaplan. Greg Vincent (Jeff Altman) was a goofy anti-authoratative type with a penchant for physically attacking the doctors.
