Part two of two. In the wake of Mountbatten's announcement of the division of India, uncertainty over the new borders leads to tensions between different communities. The British are reluctant to intervene as violence spreads across northern India, with secret orders preventing British troops from being deployed to save Indian lives. Independence is celebrated in Pakistan and India, but when Mountbatten reveals the new border, violence escalates and millions migrate across northern India. |
