Armageddon (1998)

I also love this film… in the same way I love Starship Troopers; it’s so bad that it comes full-circle and somehow becomes good again. Armageddon is NOT a good film, in any traditional sense, at all. For example: you think this film has a great story? To quote Ben Affleck, “You ever notice how everyone in these movies, they always have to be the best?”
“Bruce Willis is the best deep-core driller? I didn’t know they rated deep-core drillers. You know what I mean? Like, if you went around and asked somebody, ‘Who’s the best deep-core driller?’ How do you know? Who keeps track of these things?”
“I asked Michael why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than it was to train astronauts to become oil drillers and he told me to shut the fuck up. So that was the end of that talk. [Does Michael Bay voice] “You know, Ben, just shut up, OK? You know, this is a real plan.” I was like, “You mean it’s a real plan at NASA to train oil drillers?” and he was like, “Just shut your mouth!” See, here’s where we demonstrate that, because Bruce is gonna tell the guys that they did a bad job of building the drill tank. [With extreme sarcasm] See, he’s a salt-of-the-earth guy and the NASA NERDONAUTS don’t understand, uh, his salt-of-the-earth ways, his rough-and-tumble ways. [Just straight up laughing now] Like somehow they can build ROCKET SHIPS but don’t understand what makes a good tranny. Eight whole months? As if that’s not enough time to learn how to drill a hole, but in a week we’re gonna learn how to be astronauts? [Impersonating Willis’s character, Harry Stamper] “Oh one whole week? We’re gonna learn how to fly into space? I need my guys.” Why do you need ’em? “They’re the best.” Everyone’s the best. Why are they the best? “I don’t know, they just are.” I mean, this is a little bit of a logic stretch, let’s face it. They don’t know jack about drilling? How hard can it be? Aim the drill at the ground and turn it on.”
I’d actually recommend listening to the commentary, if you own a copy; it’s hilarious. Also did you notice how Bruce Willis’ character (Harry Stamper I think) is mentioned as having some kind of mental condition (his daughter claims that she became mentally older than him when she was still a child) and then it’s literally never mentioned again at any point in the film. No one at NASA seems to have any issues with putting a guy with the mental age of an 11 year old in charge of saving the planet, nor does Bruce Willis seem to put any effort into playing a 40 year old with a sub-13 mental age. An honorable mention has to go to, “HE HAS SPACE DEMENTIA!” That will always make me laugh so hard I almost piss myself.
In conclusion: almost nothing about this film is perfect but that doesn’t stop it from being awesome.

FFs, really. You have got to be trolling to comment on an obvious Dig at here dad for being a meathead and claim it as a plot hole, lol You said one comment up that you didn’t mean to appear as overly combative, guess just normally combative then. Sure seems like your going out of your way to attack this film. And your wrong about This and Starship Troopers, they are both great cause the are both F’n great. Cuanuck Even said in his OG post why he dug this so much and I agree 100%, The themes of family and taking care of thgose we love far out trump the action(while great) a nd comedy.
Honestly now that I think about it, You seem very bitter towards this movie, to the point of being triggered even. It’s as if you were a cast member or part of the film crew on snoozer like Deep Impact.(Armageddon rip-off,BTW)
