It’s impossible for me to have faith in our criminal justice system anymore. Do they get it right most of the time? Yes, but the Innocence Project has freed 232 people so far that collectively served a total of 3,555 years for crimes they did not commit and that is horrifying. 26% of those cases involved a false confession and 5% pleaded guilty to crimes they did not commit.
There are many reasons why I don’t support the death penalty, but the fact that innocent people can and have been wrongfully put to death is the primary one.
