Dodi's comments

Katyn (2007)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Horrible what Russians did, and blamed it on the Germans for years. The movie starts out with a bang, will never forget the scene on the bridge, and what happened in the woods, as depicted, I cannot ever unsee. My father was a freedom fighter next door, in Budapest, and had to escape because the secret police were honing in on him to cut him down.

Love hearing Nancy any time. Speaker Pelosi has a strong moral center, is a noble statesman, and a fantastic role model for girls and women of all races and creeds. [I just rave over her artistic masks and style in clothes!]:)

Blizzard of Souls (2021)
Dodi 4 points 3 years ago*.

Based on the 1933/34 novel by Aleksanders Grins, forbidden in the USSR, its author shot in 1941. It is an unashamedly male and patriotic story, with a heroic approach to war, depicting a grim episode in Latvian history. Later on, after WWII, Stalin made Latvia a Soviet puppet state (1940,)and Russia misruled it till the collapse of the Soviet Union, 1990.

Promising Young Woman (2020)
Dodi 6 points 3 years ago.

Wow! Not bad, not bad at all. Loved the satire, the horror, the pathos, the fun.

Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
bcreed08 1 points 3 years ago.

Sorry but my argument is still just as accurate even with that oversight because My Cousin Vinny has an 86% Critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Even though my remark about the winning the Oscar for the Wrestler was incorrect, she was Oscar nominated for the Wrestler, which supports my original thesis as well. So on both points you were wrong. Just accept it and move on, you’ll have a happier life or maybe you need to just go get a life :-p

Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

The Wrestler got the Golden Globe.

Savage (2020)
Dodi -1 points 3 years ago.

Beautifully done.

The Grey (2012)
gadfly_mta 2 points 3 years ago.

why does he always play the same character now in every movie?

Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

He doesn’t in this one. You should give it a shot.

The Grey (2012)
Riz 5 points 3 years ago*.

Awesome movie, I’ve seen it many times and I enjoy it everytime… I swear Liam Neeson never disappoints imo.

Dodi 4 points 3 years ago*.

Agreed! :)Great existential story, and Liam really rocks.

The Rules of the Game (1939)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Every film student knows this one. Am watching again.

The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989)
Farmboy41 3 points 3 years ago.

One of my favorites.

Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

Ditto

Manon of the Spring (1987)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Though this riveting classic stands alone, it’s more rewarding if you watch the prequel, https://www.primewire.li/movie/202866-watch-jean-de-florette first. Super good stuff.

Крепостная (2019) S1 E22
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Well, didn’t expect that to happen. I kept hoping it wasn’t real. Now I had to get out a hankie.

Крепостная (2019)
Dodi 4 points 3 years ago*.

Really enjoying season 1. I have roots in this part of the world so it’s particularly entertaining. You really get itching for some of those sadist sociopaths to get their come comeuppance. Katinka does turn on the faucet a bit much.

Kick the Cock (2008)
Rodjenka 4 points 3 years ago.

As someone who’s Dutch, owns a kitchen, has peeked into kitchens & has been kicked in the c**k several times, I regret to inform you that there’s no such Dutch saying.
Good news is this is a Tinto Brass movie & you could care less.

Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Maybe not in Holland, but in the old village bungalow in Hungary, I’ve kicked a few cocks out of the kitchen who’ve wandered in from the barnyard. Looking for Tinto’s “Paprika” next.

I Am Greta (2020)
It's_A_TV_Site_U_Loser 3 points 3 years ago.

“I would like a cleaner world. I would also like to see everyone be productively employed. Fed. And out of poverty.”
I don’t believe you want any of those things. I don’t believe you think about anyone else in a positive manner, ever.

Dodi 4 points 3 years ago.

I do think you are a provocateur, Loser, and I think you are describing your own negative self. Sorry I got sidetracked on your vitriol, and thought these kind of personal put downs were not allowed here.

The Killer (1989)
Riz 0 points 3 years ago.

Love this movie but I’m almost certain when I originally watched it it was English dubbed but I might be mistaken cause that was in the 90s

Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

They sometimes start off with subtitles, then chuck those, and dub them in later.

Крепостная (2019) S1 E1
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Wow, serfs were pretty much chattel, slaves.

Ju-on: The Grudge (2003)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

This is my favorite “The Curse” movie of the franchise ( “grudge” is not the right translation really). The fastest moving, creepiest.

The Ring (2002)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

Here, the USA remake out-creeps the Japanese original, though I love both and have watched both several times. lol

Ju-on: The Curse (2000)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Creepiest, scariest horror movie— just gives a bad feeling all over. The USA version is tepid compared to the dread and unease this leaves you with. Bone chilling, makes your skin crawl.

The Phenomenon (2020)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago*.

Incredible! Only 25 minutes in, but got me so worked up, had to comment.lol Were it only a Halloween ruse. There is stuff interspersed as the credits roll fyi

The Chaser (2008)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Saw this years ago and it was even better the second time around. A strange amalgam of violence, tenderness, and comedy. Love the “I am her protector”/ex cop, leading man: Yoon-Seok Kim.

What Doesn't Kill You (2009)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Why were those finale captions (that ones that sum up what happens to each character,) in German? Doesn’t make sense. Oh well, great watch anyway.

Winter Sleepers (1997)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago*.

Not bad German art flick.

Unhinged (2020)
[removed by a moderator]
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Wonder how long it took him to gain the weight for this psycho role?

The Seventh Seal (1958)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago*.

The vision of Death playing chess with the knight is so perfect that this surreal, “silent” film has long been considered one of the masterpieces of cinema, with the dance macabre trailing off into infinity.

The Virgin Spring (1960)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

A masterpiece to watch again.

Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump (2020)
ramfat 7 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

…And Joe Biden, the segregationist, who was good friends with the former KKK leader Robert Byrd, who did nothing in 47 years in office except author the 1994 crime bill that was responsible for incarcerating blacks at 5 times the rate for minor drug offenses, who has had 2 major brain strokes, and is suffering from late stage dementia…yeah, he’s really “fit” to lead the USA. LOL

Dodi 5 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Trumped up fake news.

Indian Summer (1972)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

Great Italian New Wave cinema, even if the translation is bad, definitely worth a watch if you like Antonioni’s style movies. But if you are looking for “soft core porn”, move on, you are in the wrong place. lol (I hear “Hollywood Sins” is good)

Interrogation (1989)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago*.

Intense. Really kept me on the edge of my seat. Putin’s world. Just wish I could figure out who it was that opened the door that last shot. grr I would say an excellent watch.

Twilight Portrait (2011)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Wow. Hard to watch…guess we have cops like this in the States too.

Real Time with Bill Maher (2003) S18 E28
Eelectric 5 points 3 years ago*.

Oh boy.. gonna be a tough one to sit through, not because of the guests (looking forward to Bernie), but there’s a lady in the audience that laughs way too loud and way too often, i’m only 1:58 minutes in and starting to develop cringe cramps, hope she turns it down soon..
EDIT: The guests were good.

Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

Wasn’t that bad.lol :)

The Nest (2020)
Marksmanbbs 6 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Wow! Good concept good beginning good watch,Then BAM! The ending for me totally sucked,Thats just my thoughts and opinion,

Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

That’s post modernism for ya. sigh :)

Mulan (2020)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

The controversy over Mulan arises from critics accusing it of indirectly favoring the oppression of Uighur Muslims in China. Communist Party officials in the Xinjiang province— an area where Uighurs have been detained in mass concentration camps—authorized filming there, and a Communist Party agency is acknowledged in the film’s credits.

Revansa (2008)
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

Really different, good watch, glad I gave it a go, even if the first few lines have no subs, they kick in soon after.

Claire's Knee (1970)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago*.

A perfect depiction of a lothario creep, wowing the ladies at the lake shore, kind of a comedy macabre. 2nd time watch.

Chloe in the Afternoon (1972)
Dodi 0 points 3 years ago.

Appreciative of all these uploads of Eric Rhomer’s master works, tour de force in the history of cinema. <3

Knife in the Water (1962)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Favorite Polanski, his first feature film, suggestion of diabolic threat throughout.

Roma (1972)
Dodi 2 points 3 years ago.

So over the moon to finally see “Roma”: Fellini’s senses of humor, his theater of the absurd, his over the top characters, who often seem to just make random cameo entrances, keep me fobl.

Distant (2002)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Has that edgy new wave cinema ambiance to it. So if you like that poignant, existential style, you’ll love this too.

Relic (2020)
Dodi 7 points 3 years ago.

This is really good and creepy. Have not liked a “horror” like this in ages.

It Happened in Broad Daylight (1958)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

Excellent!

Audrie & Daisy (2016)
Dodi 4 points 3 years ago.

Daisy Coleman just committed suicide. What a gorgeous girl, and I don’t think she really even knew it. Horrible, being lied about, ostracized, while the perpetrators get off,and it goes on a all the time, in other forms too. Alcohol is the original date rape drug, young girls need to be better informed.

Tucker Carlson Tonight (2016)
Skyehawk 6 points 4 years ago.

Character assault is the lowest form of debate.

Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

If the shoe fits, wear it.

The Rachel Maddow Show (2008) S2020 E133
MarkRowley 1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Maybe the viewing figures for this guy Maddow’s show will reach triple digits this week?

Here’s hoping for his sake.

Dodi 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

What are the odds this gal MarkiRowley doesn’t have the attention span to have watched ONE Maddow show? Let’s hope she grows some brains by and by, for her own sake.

8½ (1963)
Dodi 1 points 3 years ago.

I don’t know why,but I love this and have watched it several times. Felini might have something to do with it.

Three Colors: Blue (1993)
Dodi 6 points 3 years ago*.

Phenomenal, emotional, beautiful, and reflective of life. Kieslowki’s masterpiece of all the color series imo. One of those films you never say “one time watch” about. lol

De bende van Jan de Lichte (2020)
etim 5 points 3 years ago.

I don’t like reading subs but this one’s worth it. Quality production, good acting and writing. Great sets for a robin hood kinda adventure set in Europe in the mid 1700s

Dodi 4 points 3 years ago.

Glad I caught your comment yesterday. This is excellent stuff.

All In with Chris Hayes (2013)
Mephistopheles 3 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

this guy has nailed every story except Russian collusion, Michael Flynn, James Comey, Wuhan Virus, Michael Avenatti, the dangers of the wuhan virus, everything related to China’s countless atrocities and their deliberate concealment of the outbreak, Trump’s impeachment, ‘mostly peaceful demonstrations’, Systemic racism, BLM’s true intentions, etc etc etc, wait WTF did this dude get right?

Dodi 0 points 3 years ago.

Many people think: all of it, Mephi.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2015) S2020 E90
Dodi 3 points 3 years ago.

So glad Stephen is back from vacation! Sweet how he talks to his wife off camera as his “straight man”, and that his kids hold up his cue cards. lol
