We’ve been so fortunate! Everything about this series has been excellent. First Legion and now this. TV series’ goin’ out in style!
Quld's comments
An episode including “quibling” but no David Mitchell on the panel?! That’s very odd!
Another very good series by one of the UK’s many talents. Him humour is often misinterpreted by those who misread his sincerity for mockery and his mockery for sincerity.
With Romesh’s hilarious brand of cynical sarcasm, I’d love to see him visit Russia. They may just show him how cynicism is mastered.
It’s tragic that there are no links available for this excellent British comedy. Jo Brand and the whole cast expertly play satirical and yet very real characters. The USA version was good too if basically a duplicate for at least one season.
In the finale here, they don’t hit many high marks but they got one very well. The commentary on art from the artist’s perspective versus the audience perspective was very good. Sasha’s hidden story was intriguing too. We may get more from her.
Fine job!
Looking forward to the next season.
Good episode with some character development, especially for Goodman’s role, done through a flashback.
Well-timed and needed for the show to remain more than a spoof.
Jim is back for another set of episodes. Let’s hope that the network hasn’t yet neutered him. He’s at his best when he’s at his worst.
So many good, so many subtle episodes. There’s a nuance reminiscent of great character-driven shows like Northern Exposure.
This episode stood out somehow. Well done!
Bravo on their Emmy nominations! Whilst lacking in some ways (in my opinion of course) one can see they deserve to be recognised.
A dark comedy about a USA war veteran seeking redemption and a new life from his actions in the war and later as an assassin for hire through becoming an actor in Los Angeles. Much of the humour is drawn from the unusual perspectives of the characters and the deliberately awkward situations of violence. Few of the characters have any depth but those that do carry the show well. Certainly entertaining, funny, and even touching at times.
Dave Chappelle in his typically effortless style ruthlessly takes on topics of the day. Fearlessly counter-attacking against social-media’s purge culture and other sensitive issues he crafts another brilliant performance that will be talked about and enjoyed for as long as there are links and downloads. Unfortunately, only one hour long and lacking his “epilogue” segment here this special may be his best since Killin’ Them Softly.
A dark comedic satire about a family whose wealth was built on religious conservatism in the USA. The family dynamic is clever if cliche. Nonetheless, it does engage with an awkward comedic style and a talented cast. Hypocrisy and greed juxtaposed with almost humourous violence reminiscent of Fargo make up the keel of this show. Certainly worth watching if not converting.
Decent little Indie film. Act III kinda faded out without much pay-off but that’s fine. Fun concept, dialogue, and dry satire.
Martha finally gets her plaster off! Of course through a rather strange turn of events.
If you like the humour of Airplane and The Naked Gun, then you will like this. A farcical look at police dramas delivering rapid fire laughs.
Oh my gods! This series was a shocker. Nothing is sacred in this black comedy satirising early Victorian society. Some bits will have you howling, some hiding behind your hand.
Wish there were more links. Season 2 is particularly hard to come by.
A modern classic British panel show. Rob, Lee, and David have perfect chemistry. The guests are hit or miss but the best (Bob Mortimer, Henning Wehn, James Acaster, etc.) make for TV comedy gold.
Gervais is always praised for giving us The Office but I think this show was his real first masterpiece. The series finale is especially brilliant!
It’s probably not what you think. Gervais here is not mocking. His character Derek is warmly portrayed with intensely heartfelt moments. Some may bring up tears. Plenty of funny moments too. All based on his mothers stories of working in just such a facility. Great cast of comedians, including Ricky’s friend Karl who is a fan favourite from their real life adventures together.
A brilliant film superficially about prudish censorship of radio during the classic rock period. A fantastic ensemble cast of comedians and dramatic actors. Ralph Brown (of Withnail and I fame) and Chris O’Dowd deliver surprisingly touching performances with their separate character arcs. Then there is the soundtrack. It can’t be beat!
It’s a shame that the UK version isn’t available here.
If you’re a fan of David Mitchell (that is, a sane person) you’ll enjoy this lighthearted look at Shakespeare’s missing years. It is Blackadder with Mitchell as Shakespeare instead of Atkinson as Blackadder.
Up Pompeii for the modern age. Always funny. Good cast. Season 4 lacked a little charm but you can’t help but cheer for the boys.
A very momentous episode with huge implications! They know how to keep the viewers hanging on.
When will Martha take off her plaster? Four seasons in. That bone is seriously slow to heal lol.
A surprisingly good series so far (just finished season 2). I was worried that it would join the other melodramatic oft anachronistic in sensibilities line of period dramas in recent years. It might be guilty of those in brief moments but overall it is a strong drama about the power-play of 18th century brothels and the elite who visit them. Good cast and unexpectedly good music.
A wonderful look at the world of comedy from the perspective of the comedians and club managers at the start of the big LA scene. The characters are inspired from people who were there. Funny, dramatic, and sadly moving. It is even sadder because the series was cut down too soon.
There are plenty of good documentaries about The Great War. This one recreates moments with digitally enhanced footage and dubbing experts to give vibrant life to every part. The care and attention to detail is inspiring. Great film!
The Final Solution in its inception. Chilling isn’t enough to describe this film. A must-see for history lovers or those interested in the period and subject matter. Excellent cast!
One of the finest and unique dramas to be offered in a long time. Superbly written and performed, it feels more of a stage drama than something made for TV or film. Truly moving with shockingly deep moments.
An excellent spy drama about a network/family of Russian spies living, hiding and working in the USA in the 70’s and 80’s. Always thrilling to the end while never being overbearing in its portrayal of the period or the people involved. A strong watch for a long binge.
This film should be declared a national treasure. Three generations of Americas best black comedians (Foxx, Pryor, Murphy) along with a great supporting cast (excepting a poor performance by Arsenio Hall) including Charlie Murphy (RIP) hovering and underused. Panned by critics but loved by fans, this film is a classic.
Bill takes his childhood and fearless sense of humour and gives a very funny look at the less than perfect suburban American family in the 1970’s. It just gets better every season!
Dry, warm, and subtle. Zach is flawless playing both characters and demonstrating his range of character and humour. Louie deserves all the accolades he’s been given for his performance. He couldn’t be better.
Always good but Season 3 is especially unbelievable! They couldn’t go out on a better note. Just spectacular writing, acting, directing, and soundtrack. Truly masterful!
A delightfully funny spin-off series from the hilarious film What We Do in the Shadows. Looking forward to season 2!
One of the best new comedy series to hit from the UK. Very talented cast whose chemistry has been perfected by their previous work on Horrible Histories and Yonderland.
A fine series if your looking for a new take on the classic horror villains. Rory Kinnear is particularly brilliant with his unique portrayal of The Monster.
The show is keeping strong with this to-be classic episode. One of the finest cars with one of Americas finest comedians.
We miss you Eddie. Come back to comedy.
Did you watch a subtitled version? I can never seem to find one. I’m multilingual, but not that multilingual.
It’s back and it came out swinging!
