The Last of Us (2023)

Episode 3 changed my mind. I’ll be watching the rest of it.

alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

“There’s nothing new under the sun.” It’s true that this show combines elements of works that have gone before it, but it’s combined in a fun way. And, as you mentioned, episode 3 was amazing. So heartfelt.

In regard to the comparison with TWD, early on, TWD was a good show. But it went on and on and on. And got to be less about the zombies and more like a Soap. Hopefully this won’t go that route (as I’m not familiar with the games, and they do tend to veer away from source material at times anyway, I couldn’t say where this will go).

I read these books a long time ago. The first one was so creepy that I could only read it during the day. I still remember how beautifully the old house was described and how devilish Lasher. Very curious to see how he is portrayed. Highly recommend this series if it is half as good as the books.

alexisbits 4 points 1 year ago.

I’ve read the books a couple times. The imagery is so powerful. I was a bit disappointed in Lasher in this, he seems less debonair than in the novels. Now, the house on First Street is gorgoeous.

I didn’t know why you referenced that line & watched the 1st epi then understood why lol. She is a great actor. Loved the 1st epi too, it was very well done (see my review on the main page).

alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

I can’t see her and NOT think of that line. lol. Glad you liked it.

So many layers to this episode. It keeps getting better. From laughing at Elly’s remarks about the pages to worry when they’re awakened. . .

It’s. . . okay. Obsessive zombies for Valentine’s Day.

Spice is a little too ‘sugary’ for me (see what I did there? lol). I like them fine but I much prefer far more spice than she offers. Ya know the saying - the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice lol.

It’s a beehotch gettin’old let me tell you!!!

alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

I saw, lol.

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches (2023) S1 E2
augusts1 3 points 1 year ago.

Excellent. I’m planning on it. I do love Anne Rice & have read the vamp chronicles & Cry To Heaven which I loved. I own a bunch of others including the 1st book of the Mayfair books but have yet to read them. I think I even tried reading it but I found Anne to get FAR too into unnecessary descriptions. I kind of lost interest in her writing in the last vamp book when Lestat meets Memnoch the devil & tours hell. Anne goes on & on endlessly w/descriptions of the surroundings of hell. I just found myself skipping over whole chapters since they were mainly describing sections of hell. Ugh! lol.

alexisbits 3 points 1 year ago.

Oh goodness no! “Memnoch The Devil” wasn’t even close to the last of the Vampire Chronicles. That said, she CAN be a bit verbose. As I reread the Mayfair books (albeit very slowly), I’m finding that out. She manages to create very detailed works. For good or bad. lol. But this show is worth checking out. As is the bastardized TV version of “Interview With The Vampire”.

Just re-reading this thread & it made me literally laugh out loud.

alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago.

Always glad to provide a chuckle, augusts1! It’s funny, she’s been in so many other things (including “To Wong Foo”, which lost yet another cast member recently. Melinda Dillon/Merna).

Yeah, yeah. I’m showing my age. It used to be a great show, though.

Edit: Actually, it’s more like The Fugitive.

I’ll have to look those up!

Maybe it’s me, but when I read the novels, I picture Lasher as much more attractive than this guy. Several of the sets seem familiar (the apartment used in “Damien” really stood out to me).

I’ve not read the books. Will I be totally lost if I watch this? I already have it on my list from when you commented on the 1st epi but have yet to watch.

alexisbits 3 points 1 year ago.

Oh no. The books and show are different enough that you wouldn’t need to have read them to understand the series. Each is good in it’s own way, but (even though I’ve read the novels a couple times), I think the TV adaptation is better. At least, so far. I’d say to give it a go.

I really thought that Robin Fierce was going to go far. She had some amazing looks & did decently in the challenges. Such a gorgeous queen in & out of drag too. Going to miss her the rest of the season!

Yea, I’m old af & can’t move like they were moving in old lady drag lol.

alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Robin definitely seemed like one to watch out for. But Jax wanted it more. She is gorgeous, though Spice is more my type.

I’m not even that old and I STILL hurt watching them! lol.

Finally trying to catch up on this show. I must say, for a woman who was sedated and wheelchair bound for years, Deirdre walks surprisingly well in heels. Not a bad episode. Interesting how the show is taking a different direction than the novels, but it’s working.

Those old ladies sure can move. . . Seriously, a lot of them were rapping (even when supposedly doing Country or Metal). I thought Sasha was going to take this one. The bottom two didn’t surprise me. Fun lip sync song.

Judith Light looks so different with that hair color and style. Decent story line. Nice to see that Charlie isn’t infallible with her gifts. Clever way to commit a murder, but I wonder how Irene was able to get back down that trellis. She seemed to have enough trouble going up!

It was nice to see Natasha Lyonne reunited with Dascha Polanco (OITNB) and Noah Segan (“All About Evil”). Adrien Brody was perfectly cast. Benjamin Bratt was great too. And did I see the guy from “Adult Swim Yule Log”? Or am I mistaken? Great start to a new show!

Decaying buildings, crumbling roads, plant life overgrowing everything, a new ecosystem in a flooded building, THIS is what a post-apocalyptic world would really look like. So glad a “zombie” show finally got it right! Of course, the clicking zombies look like they have shelf mushrooms growing on their faces, which would not be Cordyseps. And why are no fungal spores in the air? Still, a great episode. It brings drama, horror, and humor.

YouTube is one of the sites PW allows. I’m surprised Tubi isn’t. Shocked you’ve not seen the original “Hellraiser”. I’d say watch it first, THEN the remake. Some of the sequels to the original are fun too. If PW still had the option to watch movies with friends, I’d say “let’s do a Hellraiser night”. lol. Miss that option, but I understand.

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S15 E4

Oh yea that Hellraiser look was mesmerizing. She could hardly move in it though lol. She was amazing on her season. Love her.

She tried out for the role of Hellpriest/Pinhead for the “Hellraiser” remake. I would’ve loved to see that, though Jamie Clayton did a good job too. On another note, have you see the Gottmik Paris tutorial on Youtube? https://youtu.be/w_AAXLC-uY0

You’d think the queens would learn to avoid doing social media influencers from watching previous seasons of snatch game. They rarely work out. Gottmik’s Paris Hilton was one of those rarities.

alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

They should know by now, but they just keep trying. Agreed about Gottmik, but she was so great on her season. I still get shivers thinking of her “Hellraiser” look.

LOL a lot of snatch! I thought Rosie was decent but no comparison to Joan Rivers who was hysterical. It was inevitable Sugar/Spice were going to lip sync against one another. Production would be stupid to pass up that opportunity lol.

Oh yes, Joan was definitely a riot. Well-deserved win. And you’re right about Sugar and Spice, it was only a matter of time.

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S15 E4
alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

That’s a lot of snatch! I love the dual Snatch Game. Loosey’s Joan Rivers and Mistress’s Rosie O’Donnell were hilarious. Marcia and Selena were also really good. The rest, not so much. It wasn’t a surprise to see Sugar and Spice in the bottom. Sugar’s Trisha lacked personality and humor, while Spice’s Miley was over the top in a bad way. I kept hoping someone else would take her sledgehammer. lol. A great episode.

alexisbits 4 points 1 year ago.

Interesting take on the story behind Velma and the Mystery Gang. Not sure how well the series will turn out, based on this episode. It has it’s moments, but there’s also quite a bit of lag. And for a “grown up” version, it’s awful tame.

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S15 E3
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Sasha Colby as God and Loosey LaDuca as Dolly Parton were the best parts. “Team Leftovers” skit. . . the golf clap from the judges said it all. I wasn’t surprised Amethyst was in the bottom again, or that Princess Poppy was as well. I figured Poppy would win the lip sync with her comedic take on the song, but Ru preferred Amethyst’s more “Diana” take of course.
