Once Around (1991)

When watching this wonderful little movie, many years ago, is when I became a Holly Hunter fan. She’s just adorable and so is this film.

Grey's Anatomy (2005)
laurie621 -1 points 4 years ago.

This is a dramatic series based on a group of surgical interns at Sloan Memorial Hospital in Queen City. The main focus is Meredith Grey’s professional, as well as private life and her disturbing childhood caused by her introverted father and her cold and distant, world-famous mother.

Sixteen Candles (1984)
laurie621 -4 points 4 years ago*.

Samantha played by Molly Ringwald has a birthday and the entire family is so wrapped up in her older sisters wedding preparations that they all forget. The just turned 16 year old, is preoccupied with her (imagined) underdeveloped appearance and is in love with a popular older boy she believes doesn’t know she exists. With everything going the way it is, she’s just miserable.

Drop Dead Diva (2009)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago*.

Deb, an insipid wannabe model dies in an accident and comes back in Jane’s body; Jane had taken a bullet for Jay Parker, her law-firms partner. The story-line is about Deb’s transition to being a “plus-sized” attorney from her former self, a gorgeous, self-absorbed young woman.

Home Alone (1990)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

Paris bound for the holidays, the large family of eight year old Kevin, accidentally leave him behind. His initial response was joyful, until he became painfully lonely. With a newly profound appreciation for his Family, in a most hilarious way, he protects himself and his home from prowlers who become dumbfounded at young Kevin’s fearless ability to do so.

The Sandpiper (1965)
laurie621 -1 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Not a bad movie. Elizabeth Taylor is a generation before me, from my parents day…and I just never took an interest in the old black and whites. But finally I decided I would start watching some of them and to my surprise have found them quite good. Elizabeth Taylor was stellar; Sandpiper is a good watch with exceptions. I didn’t care for the punch line.. the ending that I thought would be interesting was a let down to me..but the rest of the movie I enjoyed.

The Goldbergs (2013)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago.

I gave this show a go about a year ago and the pilot was just too stupid for words, so I passed it up. Running across it yesterday I decided to give it another try just to make sure it’s a stinker before giving up on it. Well.. to my surprise it does get a lot better and it has some really heart warming moments, not to mention, it really does do a great job of expressing the era of the 80s… So after 14 episodes I will rate it three out of five which warrants it binge worthy.

Liar Liar (1997)
laurie621 2 points 4 years ago.

I just love this movie and have watched it several times and will several more if the creeks don’t rise. If you need a laugh, this is the movie for you. Imo this is the best one Carrey ever made.

Jackie Brown (1997)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

I’ve been looking for this movie because I saw it years ago and still remember it and wanted to see it again. So glad I ran across it here. BTW this site is set up GREAT.. better than ever!

Lonesome Dove (1989) S1 E1
collein 2 points 4 years ago.

Just browsing westerns and came across this. IMO the best, most authentic western ever made.

laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

I agree… I have the series of Lonesome Dove movies and they are all extraordinary and memorable. I think it’s time to get them out again! Lonesome Dove is such a wonderful move. 1993 Tombstone is another great.

Brockmire (2017)
laurie621 -3 points 4 years ago*.

Hank Azaria is hilarious and this could have been one of the greats, remembered by all tv viewers. The story line has never been done before and it’s done well.. I thought.. oh boy this is going to be a fun fun fun watch and settled in to enjoy.. But… because it’s so incredibly raunchy, over the top and the writing focuses on that part of it, so it suffers too much to get into.. I so much prefer shows without all the foul language and raw, in your face sex..but have learned to get past all that in order to enjoy shows that have good actors and good story lines.. what else can one do if you love movies and tv shows? Anywho.. imo, they went too far with this one and it ruined it. It could have been a great watch.

The Break-Up (2006)

Vince Vaughn outdid himself in this delightful little film..and as always, Jennifer Aniston was impeccable. Loved it-

A Map of the World (2000)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This drama is based on two families that are almost destroyed because of a gossiping community that jumps to conclusions when tragedy strikes. This sadly opens a door for a vindictive mother to take revenge.. Sigourney Weaver plays her role with expertise and if you like tragic dramas, this one more than fits the bill. 5 stars-

Catfish: The TV Show (2012)
Earthrush 2 points 4 years ago.

i freaking hate that soo many off the catfish are big person , it just set a more bad point off view on us big ppl

laurie621 -1 points 4 years ago.

It’s sad but life is a beauty contest in these days. Even if one IS thin and beautiful..it’s only for a season. So women obsess on their appearance trying to be gorgeous or more gorgeous than they already are…and hang on when it’s time for it to be over. Women use to take pride in other things and grow old gracefully enjoying being a mother and grandmother. sigh
That in itself would drive a big or unattractive person to live in a online fantasy world.. It seems to me they are seeking someone beautiful instead of looking for a mate that is attainable.. because they themselves cannot accept or be attracted to anything less than perfection.

The Rookie (2018)
laurie621 2 points 4 years ago.

This cop show is like they use to be…about the characters and their relationships between each other. Each show has an individual story to tell instead of an ongoing soap opera type and no cussing, sex or violence. If you prefer a show being interesting on it’s own merit instead of being pornish and gruesome, you will probably like this one. an easy 5 stars-

Alaskan Bush People: Book of Browntown (2017)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago.

This show is actually into the eleventh season and I’ve watched them all. I don’t believe it’s anymore real than any other tv show, but I do find it very entertaining.
These intelligent people have the ability to thrive in the wild but yet will repeatedly allow Bears to destroy everything they have and be a constant threat to their lives just to avoid “bad” karma. lol Sorry, I don’t buy it..But it is fun to watch.
It’s like all shows in the manner that it makes you angry how they don’t do the obvious in order to avoid or get out of bad situations. But that’s what keeps us sitting on the edge of our seats and coming back for more.
I give it 5 stars and for a reality show that’s huge for me…happy watching!

Goliath (2016)
laurie621 2 points 4 years ago.

I’ve always been a Billy Bob fan and settled in for a good watch when this show aired. For whatever reason, I can’t stay with it in order to follow the story line… it bores me and my mind wonders. I have gone back several times to the first show to give it another try and the same thing keeps happening. But because ima avid fan, I will again (at some point), give it another go.

The Banger Sisters (2002)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago*.

Suzette played by Goldie Hawn and Vinnie played by Susan Sarandon were best friends and famous groupies to the Heavy Rock Stars of the late 60’s and 70’s. Suzette unable to move on never married and was stuck trying to live as she did in the past and Vinnie living in denial that it had ever happened, becomes a people pleaser allowing her family to treat her badly. Having not seen each other for 20 years Suzette gets fired from her bartender job in LA, and travels to Phoenix to see Vinnie. Together they learn to deal with their past and move on with their lives.

The Rose (1979)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago*.

One of my all time favorites. Bette Midler imo missed her true calling and should have been a rock star! an easy 5 stars-

MINDHUNTER (2017)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

Mindhunter takes place in the 70s when serial killers first started cropping up. Two teamed FBI agents; one fascinated with the psychology of the killers wanting to interview and study them and the other just wanting to continue on as usual, coaching other law enforcement and hunting them down. This is not your typical repugnant serial killer show but is instead unique and absolutely fascinating. -five stars

Saving Grace (2007)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

Grace Hanadarko is a great police detective who drinks way too much and ‘enjoys’ too many men…one in particular that she seems to love. She constantly makes bad decisions motivated by a traumatic experience from her childhood that is ruining her life.

GLOW (2017)
laurie621 1 points 4 years ago.

An out of work actress is offered a wrestling position when an angry wife attacks her in the ring. It’s a silly little show but sometimes silly can be quite good.

Tammy (2014)
laurie621 -1 points 4 years ago.

Not my cup of tea…. I was looking forward to a good belly laugh and was greatly disappointed. To me it deserves even a lower rating than given by the IMDb users.
Sorry Tammy lovers, but I give it TWO THUMBS DOWN.

Halt and Catch Fire (2014)
Julianna 2 points 4 years ago.

Just from your beautifully written review, I am now going to add this to my list of shows to watch! Thank you!

laurie621 2 points 4 years ago.

Yes I agree .. what an intriguing review. I am now watching the first episode!

Desperate Housewives (2004)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago.

Desperate Housewives is about a group of “upper middle class” suburban housewives who are best friends. One of them surprisingly and seems for no reason, commits suicide. This starts off the unveiling of the realities of what really goes on in the seemingly utopianistic lives of these women.

Buster and Billie (1974)
laurie621 3 points 4 years ago*.

Most movies if never seen again are forgotten. But not this one. Billie was unsocialized because of being raised by dimwits and then shunned by all the community.. Tragically, the local boys took advantage of her plight as she was terribly and despicably used by them.
Buster was the most popular boy in school and saw past it.. to who she really was, and fell in love with her. A truly bitter sweet movie that is not easily forgotten. I’m so glad I ran across it. Most movies are just to pass the time.. and then there are those that touch us.

Only the Lonely (1991)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago.

John Candy could do far more than tickle your funny bone. He was indeed a great actor. If you were a fan of his, you don’t want to pass this great little film by. Please watch it..you won’t regret it.

Public Morals (2015)
laurie621 0 points 4 years ago.

This show has an authentic tone to it and is extremely well written and acted. I can hardly believe it was canceled after one season.

The Golden Girls (1985)
laurie621 3 points 4 years ago.

Who wouldn’t love the Golden Girls?? A Golden Gem from the good old days! Ageless imo.

Rock Star (2001)
laurie621 2 points 4 years ago*.

This movie is done very well and held my attention twice and probably will a few more times over the years. It just goes to show what getting your hearts desire can do to you instead of for you. Few can handle fame and wealth and even fewer can return from it unscathed and make their lives better for the experience.
